RE: Apple store is down

Speculation around the "internets" is that it may be for iPad pre-purchase. Aren't you all excited for another 1000 post thread where we all repeat ourselves 10 times? (myself included)

You got that right, but hey we need to put this thread up over 1000 entries anyways.

Well we ll know who the better half is there. But how is this a surprise anyways, people driven to build companies like MS seldom have the ability or empathy to understand the needs of others. That isn't bad, because we as a society need a wide array of personality types to progress, and remain malleable.

Do we really need to know which charities Steve supports if any? I wouldn't expect you to know which I support or how I contribute to the community. In fact such knowledge is counter productive to the whole idea of having giving and selflessness in the first place. If you have to publicly declare your giving for it to be valid then it really isn't charity anymore but appeasement.

Which community?

And what would you do with this knowledge? Would you then rate Steve on his charity selections or the amount he gives? Do you see where it is absolutely none of your business? In any event please do tell us how any of this information would do you any good, the charities any good or do Steve any good?

The reality is that the concept of charity and giving has been considered a private matter for a good reason. Once it becomes public it is no longer a act of charity.

Dave

As I said at the beginning of my comment, this issue is not relevant to this thread. I was responding to a fanboy making allegations about Gates.

One thing I assure you of, Steve Jobs is the most scrutinized CEO these days. If he were doing anything charitable, we would all know it. Some fanboys conveniently "assume" he is doing it "privately".

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment with "But how is this a surprise anyways, people driven to build companies like MS seldom have the ability or empathy to understand the needs of others.", however, you seem not to apply this to Steve Jobs. He is no better.

An iPhone refresh every 6 months!!! Only a fool or someone with money to burn, would update every 6 months! Some people don't even upgrade yearly

I have the 3GS since I didn't buy the 3G! I like to wait for a worthwhile update/redesign. Sadly, I might have to pick up a new one if it's really an A+ update! :D

6 months because the android phones come from different manufacturers. If only HTC made the android stuff, then 1 year might suffice. HTC has really gone from nothing to a good phone company, ala HTC HD2

What does this means?

- Next iPhone coming is an A+ update

What does that means guys?

He must be talking about more than the 4.0 software. Besides the A4 chip or a derivative, what else do you think he may do hardware wise to move the iPhone well ahead of the competion?

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, Safari/firefox on my MBP would literally crash at least twice a day, and that is NO exaggeration. I was forced to install ClickToFlash just to have a relatively stable browsing experience.

I say good riddance. Why would people prefer to have one company control over 90% of the video based content on the entire internet? That much control in the hands of one company is never good, and that goes for ANYBODY. Adobe with their monopolistic control has taken their sweet time in bringing improvements to their flash plug-in. They just started having hardware decoding of h.264 and it's 2010! Standards based software is what should be encouraged, especially when it comes to something as large as the internet.

I find these statements odd. You and others say video on the internet shouldn't be controlled by one company but that is exactly what Apple does with the whole Ap process. They control it totally. Flash on the other hand is free for anybody to use. You don't have to pay for it and you don't have to pay to watch video. The only group that has to pay any money in any way shape or form are Flash designers who use Adobe Flash to produce content. How exactly is Adobe controlling the worlds video if the player and everything you need to watch it is free and open platform? Who cares if Adobe made it if it doesn't cost you anything. At least other companies create cheap software to create SWF files for animation. Does Apple offer any option to create aps outside of the ap store. If you want to apply your rules of "monopolistic control" then you need to apply those same rules to Apple as well. I love my Apple computer but I stop short of calling one company out on their practices and choosing not to apply those same rules to Apple as well.

Lets say someday Apple is the leader in devices with the ap process. Wouldn't this make a monopoly as well? Isn't Apple actually more restrictive because they don't even give consumers a choice on consumer devices. Apple is saying do it our way or the highway. Adobe at least gives you the option of not using Flash and as long as you have a capable system most of the Flash content is free to everybody.

When Jobs retires, he will have plenty of time on his hands to figure out what he wants to do with his money. Meanwhile, he's focused on trying to stay alive.

As for Gates, how can anyone possibly criticize the guy? He just saved millions of lives.

Lol, Apple tries to limit or outright block Google on iPhone and Jobs has face to complain about Google phone. This makes MS looks like a non-profit charity organisation.:D

That is so true, where is Google Voice for the iPhone? Rejected by Apple. Apple did start the war with Google, finally a strong party capable of bending Apple's strong arm is putting their foot down and saying we don't like your software so we are making our own.

It might just be a quoincidence, but to me A+ and A4 look alot alike lol

Mmm, competition.

I love it when big companies try to outdo each other like this. We all end up getting such cool toys as a result.

BRING IT!

Well, his honesty is appreaciated. At least now we know without a doubt that Apple hates Google and Adobe...and flash on ipad will not happen.

"Readers get a dollop of Apples magical sauce - The iPad may do for words what iPods did for music, and it spells trouble for makers of netbooks and ereaders"
Sunday Times.

maybe--but a woodgrain virtural bookcase--even steve ballmer would think thats tacky. actually--design wise--tunes app and the itunes store are crap. functionally, though, they are quite good

Somebody has a bit of a problem with flies in his soup?

I'm taking my $100,000 (over two years; that's EVERY two years) computer budget to a system that supports Blu-ray.
That is sad to hear. It is nice of you however to saddle your employes with inferior equipment for something as stupid as BlueRay.
I've had it with Jobs and his iCrap iToys for kiddies and his overpriced arrogance. Now trying to squash flash. Oooh, "google is out to kill the iPhone." Nutty as Hitler in his bunker.
Are you trying to say the iPad is over priced? As to flash he is doing the only responsible thing when no effort is being displayed by the owner to fix the software. If you had the maturity to manage that budget of yours you would realize that Flash is the last thing you want on those machines no matter what the operating system.

Finally if you can't see the mazing lack of ethics that Google has displayed here with respect to the development of the Google phone then you should consider removing yourself from the business world permanently. Think about it what would you think if somebody at a company you worked for used his position as a board member to spy on your product development? You simply can't gloss over this and frankly neither should Steve, the public needs to make informed decisions with respect to supporting Google. They can't do that if people remain silent.
That's it. Two years is long enough to wait.
Good leave and take your company down what ever hole you like.
You don't run the world, Steve-O, and you ain't never getting my money again. You had more than enough chance to give content creators what they need. Thousands of content creators have been screaming for it for YEARS on this forum and in many others.
Err neither do you and from the size of your computer budget you are not likely to run much of anything. As to the content creator you can all go to hell if you think your ranting on these forums will get the general public to support BluRay. It won't happen because frankly society as a whole has more back bone than the people that lay down with BluRay(the modern day devil technology). There is a whole moral side to rejecting BluRay that has nothing to do with Steve-O and you sir are one example of why many people just want to see BluRay die off along with its content creators.

Now get this through your head the user community has rejected BluRay for good reason and has increasingly grown tired of the morally bankrupt amongst us trying to force it down our throats.
Even IF you were to implement Blu-ray now, I'd be the LAST business on earth to trust you.
With your attitude I don't think your business will be around much longer.
So long. Enjoy the Mattel biz, for as long as that will last with China on your heels.

Oh. When I need to replace my Tracfone, it WON'T be an iPhone.

:apple:

Tracfone? I almost rolled off my chair whenI heard that one. Time to grow up and gets some adult toys.

Steve Jobs has AIDS, as in, Apple Is Dominating Sales......

The iPad will be the new gaming device of 2010, games games games, that's where the monies at and Jobs knows this, games make more money than movies these days, apart from Avatar 3D, but the Pad will dominate no matter how much people complain about it not doing this and not doing that.

It will work and it will play games. I'll see you in 2 years.

I highly doubt it! I'm an avid gamer that has purchased every console under the sun!(Atari Jaguar ugh :() And I wouldn't trade any of them in for an iPad! (I'm buying one but not for games)

Now don't get me wrong it's going to have some great games! But it's not a real threat to Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft! :)

It can't deliver the full console feeling without buttons. Also why would current gamers spend $500 to play inferior games? Bottom-line is you can't get games like Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2, Bayonetta, Dragon Age, No More Heroes 2 etc... running on this thing. Yes it's more powerful than the PSP and DS but it lacks buttons and it doesn't fit in your pocket!

And for the record I do a ton of gaming on my iPhone(Touch-Arcade is one of my favorite sites). Still nothing beats the real thing! :D

That is one deal, the iPad is unlocked so you won't have to use AT&T.
They just mentioned a deal with AT&T, if your other network supports MicroGSM fantastic - the iPad can use it. :)

Happy :)

In the US there are no alternatives - T-Mobile uses the wrong frequency.
