Heard of apps which use a data connection? IM clients, IRC, VoIP, music streaming...the list goes on. There's also loading times to consider.

Don't know about you, but I spend a fair bit of time travelling for work, and it's nice to be able to play movies on my laptop rather than watching whatever ****** movie is on TV in the wrong language.

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. Other applications, like Pandora or Rhapsody, that utilize a data connection should be allowed to use multi-tasking capabilities. It isn't being lazy, you just don't appreciate it until you have it. It drives me bonkers that Rhapsody is killed the moment I want to browse the web, look at my schedule, answer an email or play a game. Oh, of course that is unless I use iTunes...which is Microsoft-esqe if you ask me.

professional creative community

'WOW! Jobs is moving away from the professional creative community in a hurry. Bummer.'

Not necessarily. with some pro grade software and a wireless link to a camera, the ipad could be the perfect tethered device for a photographer be it in studio or at a live event. with wifi and 3g, the picture could be taken, colour corrected and sent off to the publisher in a matter of minutes.

I'll bet you're saving a bundle with that old Studebaker, too.

Safari all the time for me, since 64 bit Mac OS/X!

My firefox dies MUCH more often than safari. Chrome too, but I'll cut them some slack since it's beta.

As the subject says, once I switched to 64 bits it has been Safari all the way. With that and Click to Flash I haven't had any issues to speak of since. I still keep Firefox installed just in case but don't use it much anymore. Beside the integration with iPhone comes in real handy.

Speaking of which I had to restore my iPhone today for the first time since getting it (almost two years now). For some reason all the third party apps refused to start up, yet Apples apps worked fine. I've never seen this before, bummer! What is cool is that restore works beautifully.

Right now I'm running on the web kit nightly. One thing obvious is that WebKit renders some stuff better than the last release of Safari. Especially elements on forms. It is funny but sometimes Apples betas are better than their releases. :)

That's an issue with the app-signing that's used to prevent people from circumventing the app store. DRM sucks.

Talking about Apples impact:

remember stevos quote that "Prices will be the same" on iBooks and kindle?

Well first down:

Dear Customers:
Macmillan, one of the "big six" publishers, has clearly communicated to us that, regardless of our viewpoint, they are committed to switching to an agency model and charging $12.99 to $14.99 for e-book versions of bestsellers and most hardcover releases.
We have expressed our strong disagreement and the seriousness of our disagreement by temporarily ceasing the sale of all Macmillan titles. We want you to know that ultimately, however, we will have to capitulate and accept Macmillan's terms because Macmillan has a monopoly over their own titles, and we will want to offer them to you even at prices we believe are needlessly high for e-books. Amazon customers will at that point decide for themselves whether they believe it's reasonable to pay $14.99 for a bestselling e-book. We don't believe that all of the major publishers will take the same route as Macmillan. And we know for sure that many independent presses and self-published authors will see this as an opportunity to provide attractively priced e-books as an alternative.
Kindle is a business for Amazon, and it is also a mission. We never expected it to be easy!
Thank you for being a customer

what about

ilife? or even iwork? there's been zero to little news on these two software suites. will Brushes be included in ilife 10 (or X) with tablet or trackpad support?

When I am on vacation, I don't take movies from home. I'm on vacation. I might take a movie for the kids, that is digital and they really don't care how the movie looks on the screen.

Digital, you mean like Blu-Ray or DVD? Or are you referring to some other digital file stored somewhere?

Amazon is just pissed because it wanted to keep the margins from both ends of the transaction.

Doing so would be "new"? Hardly anyone is still using carrier pigeons that carry film to the developer's lab. Photographers have been sending digital photos off within a "matter of minutes" for many years now via laptop computers. Need 3G? Just plug in your 3G USB dongle in virtually any laptop. But, one interesting plus for the iPad is the $30 "unlimited" 3G deal... That's a good price.

The still-present challenge however is getting decent 3G coverage. Often times, some of the best photos/video are made in locations far off the beaten path.

Dude the year just started.

And there was word on iWork, at least its new touch version .

HTML5 is going to happen . . . because Steve Jobs declared publicly it's going to happen. And when Steve Jobs open his mouth to speak, the industry swoons.

Adobe just got the worst press possible.

This was the last nail in Flash's coffin.

SJ also said that no body reads anymore.. I guess we should all throw away our books!
:D

"Apple will deliver aggressive updates to iPhone that Android/Google won't be able to keep up with." - Better make it quick Steve, your competitors aren't exactly sitting around. The yearly refresh cycle probably isn't going to cut it anymore.

Agreed...my dad has been seriously looking at a Droid instead of an iPhone for various reasons...big reason is iPhone is handcuffed to ATT. 2nd big reason is pricing. Although I'm not an Apple loyalist, this iPhone 3GS rocks...a few UI pet peeves (that I hope they fix) but great cell phone (UI) and awesome pocket web surfing device.

And yea, the yearly updates will definitely not work...so many competitors with lots of updates, better pricing, and mimicking the iPhone's ease of use.

Wonder if Apple's updates will be new hardware or also include software/firmware updates so us older-gen owners can grab some new features or UI improvements that the next gen iPhone may have.

Completely disagree. Had the original iPhone. Now use the 3gs. It is much better. How can you say the original was better when it had more limited software and was noticeably slower? When I go back and use the original now it seems clunky and slow.
Well, yes. The upgrade from the iPhone 2G to the 3GS is an A+ upgrade. From 3G to 3GS, not so much. He was talking about 3G to 3GS.
I don't own one Blue Ray DVD. I have 200+ DVD's, all on my Mac's external HDD and then I sync some to my Apple TV.
I can't say never.. but I don't see my anytime soon adopting Blue Ray. I don't see much point in it, DVD's were working fine, and we were all slowly moving to Digital, no need to create another type of DVD. Ah well :)
Blu ray not Blue ray
Optical media is on it's way out, Bluray is just the next mini disc.
Actually, you are incorrect. At this point in DVD's lifespan, it was at 4% marketshare, and now Blu Ray is at 8%+, and keep in mind when DVD was introduced the market was in a dire need of a new format. Blu ray sales are up 91% since last year, and digital downloads are only 10-20% of the market. So please, show me how optical media is on it's way out, I'd like to know.
MacBook Air :D
The MacBook Air sacrifices a dVD drive for more thinness and lightness. he wants to remove the DVD drive and replace it with better specs (i.e. better video cards and bigger batteries...)

Great, so more competition means higher prices for the consumer. That's not the usual outcome.

E Book market being a mass market with huge public attention is still a fairly young playground. What the content is worth really is not 100% figured out yet.

With this new option for publishers on hand they will try their luck. Consumers will decide what the content is really worth but there has to be a bigger user base first.

I see end of 2010 in mind, with an estimated (IMHO) 10 million iPads sold. Prices will be at the point where sales and profit meet in a graphing point of view.
