Steve has basically answered all the questions we've been asking for ages...
I love it, his views and the way it's headed.

It's funny, the only app that crashes on my Mac is Safari and Adobe Air. Safari because of Flash and Adobe Air, well...

A lot of people don't consider it a problem.

You do realize you're talking about a specific product, the iMac, and it's an AIO, just like all the other AIOs? If you want an expandable computer, there's the Mac pro, which you apparently already own.

I'm running Photoshop, Illustrator and [bleah] Flash just fine on Snow Leopard. Compatibility issues have NOTHING to do with Apple. How's Apple supposed to fix Adobe's app's bugs? And how's Apple supposed to bring 64 bit compatibility to Adobe's apps?

Apple is running away from CRAPPY software. They're denying Flash because it sucks. And it's Adobe's fault that they can't make a 64 bit version of the suite. They could've released a 64 bit Adobe Suite already (free update for the 32 bit customers) instead of making us wait for CS5. As Jobs said, they're just too lazy.

A lot of people don't consider it a problem.

Talk to some graphic designer and you'll understand how IT IS a problem for pro users. I don't really like to mirror myself while color correcting to get some good pantone because of the glossyness and shininess of the monitor that ****s up the perception of colors.

As I wrote, yes I realize it, bercause I own a pro. I'm talking about apple's strategy and where it is moving. Of for me, it's moving away from the pro market.

Uh.. no 64 bit support for photoshop, so 3gb ram cap. Maybe for you it's not a problem. For me it is. I would really love to use all the 16gb I have. You know.. that could be useful.. :) Same for AE, that needs A LOT MORE memory than PS of AI, so 3gb is not enough. Take a look at some graphic forum around the net, you'll see that many users have stability issues with snow leopard. Even with the latest update. My main problem is the lack of 64 bit support. ANd if you look further, apple implemented changes in the snow leopard architechture that created tons of problems to adobe programmers. I wonder why..

Flash is a tool. A tool. Any tool can be beautiful or crappy. It's the trash-in/trash-out theory. Bad programmers, bad programs. Good programmers, good program. I don't know if you use flash. But I can garantee you that it's the most powerful platform to get a stunning graphic site. Everything integrated with the Adobe suite.

I'm pretty sure if Adobe had the apple logo, noone would be talking about how flash is crappy, but how it is cool and integrated to all the other graphic applications. :)

:
Due to Apples ability to change whole markets, their decision to not allow Flash to run on their MILLIONS of devices will very soon kill Flash on most pages. Without this we consumers would be stuck with flash for decades. So somebody powerfull needs to make the first step and I'm thankfull Apple is doing it.

I couldn't agree more. Apple needs to take a stand, and make some changes. No more Flash means FAR better web viewing experience. Thank you Steve! You can't argue that the current user base of mobile 'non-flash' devices is in Apple's favor, and that number grows everyday. If 90% of your customers wanted chocolate, but you only sold vanilla, how much are you gonna make? No Flash in that many hands is gonna make people "think different" about what technology to use, and I'm all for it. Good riddance.

As for BR, my HP Mini 311 doesn't have an optical drive and I don't miss it at all. I'm not saying to kill off optical media for everyone, it's just that if you want to watch a Blu Ray, do it at home. If you're really committed though, you could always by an external, rip to computer, done.

this is the kind of motivational talk that apple needs to be sharing with the technological world.

adobe deserves what they get. it is not just flash which is bloated and buggy.

as for updates to iphone and mac, we will wait and judge. i doubt it will be the revolution so many fanboys crave, but will be the steady step that apple has taken in recent years to cement itself as a success in the marketplace.

as long as apple is not aggressive, but instead passive in the anti-jailbreaking space, i am happy with the direction steve is taking.

I feel sorry for Mr Jobs. He's a billionaire, but he is also paranoid and at least as megalomanian as Louis XIV.

It's time that Apple gets a new CEO.

Well if you took some time to put the screen somewhere when it isn't in direct contact with sunlight...

As I wrote, yes I realize it, bercause I own a pro. I'm talking about apple's strategy and where it is moving. Of for me, it's moving away from the pro market.

The iMac has been around since a long time. They're not moving away from the pro market, they have simply entered the high-end consumer market too.

Do you really think that Apple would do something to ruin the most important market they're in?

The Flash Application is great. But the Flash player just sucks. I don't care how much integrated the Flash Application is, why would I waste time using it when in the end I'll get something which sodomizes my CPU?

I'm sure if Adobe had an Apple logo, it wouldn't make a plugin which was the nr #1 cause of crashes of a web browser which has an Apple logo on an Operating System which has an Apple logo on a computer which has an Apple logo.

Here we go again. Firstly, Mobile Safari has only 0.64% market share of web browsers, even allowing for further iPhone and iPad growth it will take years before most sites could care less. Secondly shipping "MILLIONS" of devices is a drop in the ocean compared to 1.73 BILLION web users. Apple have changed some specific markets, but the idea that "their decision not to allow Flash ... will very soon kill Flash on most pages" is just delusional. The idea that Apple alone can dictate future policy of the Internet is pure fantasy. Microsoft didn't succeed in that when they had 95% browser share.

I don't think it is Steve Jobs that is the problem, but people. People have become more and more hateful, full of spite, and consider themselves geniuses on every topic.

I am not directing this at anyone, but as I am an old man I can testify that times have changed for the worse. Much worse!

Besides that... I want an A+ iPhone upgrade. Give me a reason to replace my 1st Gen! Don't get me wrong I'm glad my nearly 3 year old phone still cuts it, but I think I'm ready for more.
i'm in the same boat. i love my 1st Gen iPhone and don't want to move on unless there is a real reason to. while Jobs is grading the next gen iPhone, i'll grade the previous gens based on year they came out with the OS it ran:

iPhone 2G OS 1.0 (6/2007): A
iPhone 3G OS 2.0 (7/2008): A+
iPhone 3G OS 3.0 (6/2009): C+

anyone else agree/disagree?

Not agree! I think A+ means mainly(Processor Upgrade to maybe the same as the iPad now has!)

(Prolly been said but) what about Apples entry into the Ad market?

Google bought Android INC back in 2005. Sucks to have competition eh?

Will Adobe continue making software for the Mac? Jobs just called them lazy.

And why should Jobs care?
Not only will they be lazy, but they will also be poorer :D or lazy poor :p

HEY: is there an option in safari to turn Flash off ??? :p "off we go to safari help..."

That's what Adobe programmers say.

Not anymore. Creative are not the most important market for apple anymore.
The most important market they are now is the Iphone os based device with the app store and the percentage on EVERY software sold for those platform. A maket that will grow exponentially.. and they will slowly move away from pro market.. (and they are right, money is not there anymore. But i'm a pro, and I feel I will have to find a new platform pretty soon)

That's my all point.

Looking forward very much to next iphone model. As much as i am the updated MBP's and Air. Now the tablet is out of the way lets get back to the bread and butter

"The world is moving to HTML5." - May it be so, Steve, may it be so!

"Apple will deliver aggressive updates to iPhone that Android/Google won't be able to keep up with." - Better make it quick Steve, your competitors aren't exactly sitting around. The yearly refresh cycle probably isn't going to cut it anymore.

What is with the cynicism?

Are you naturally so pessimistic? Or could it be that your mom dropped you when you were a baby?

Or are you paid to bash Apple and Jobs by the Beast Master?

You should check out Laguna's post history. He is hardly an apple basher.

Tech moves fast in the mobile industry and a 12 month refresh can leave them behind.

It's not that easy. Safaris market share may be low today but it weighs much more than the billions of company PCs equipped with IE because behind Safari equipped computers there are young, technologically affine users consuming a lot of web video. Content providers are interested in giving them an option to access their content and HTML5 is a good, affordable solution for them. Another thing you should keep in mind is how Apple managed to change the whole music industry, and they also began with a very low user base.

you miss the point, apple remains a hardware company. they do however strategically leverage software to increase hardware revenue. thus the itunes store, include the app store.

adobe is a part of that and apple is taking a hard line after years of adobe's lollygagging. they do still want adobe on board but they have hit a wall which require's showing adobe some tough love. i hope it pans out, i don't see any way adobe could be as arrogant as apple and simply snub the platform. but this is funny world. i'll laugh and then cry when it happens.

Ok, I expressed myself incorrectly. The Creative market is the most important market for Macs. The creative pros are the major buyers of [high end] Macs.

And Macs are important for the Apple ecosystem.

iPod--Mac--iPhone--iPad, it's all connected.

Adobe has forgotten who made them what they are.

Honestly I don't know why people want blu-ray in their notebooks so badly

With video streaming and downloading what is the point?

I rather they just remove the optical and use the space for something else

Well, those disks are expensive and those who blew a load of cash on them need to quantify it somehow ;)

I dont know why anyone wouldn't want them. Its a step forward not back. Unless you dont need an optical at all in which case the air is king

agreed, laguna has a realistic and balanced perspective - the thing is, apple is in a unique position that has the market hanging on their refresh cycles. this was against them in the g4/g5 days, but right now if i were an apple executive i would say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

just because you as an apple fanboy want new apple products as every technology hits the market, doesn't mean it's good for apple's bottom line.

when there are 500gb ssd drives at affordable prices, then we can talk, but frankly i've lately become enamoured with x264 and the insatiable desire for more storage.
