i think Steve is brilliant.

But I disagree with him on this. Bring back the CD.

You can argue that itunes have moved beyond CD importing (not true for all of us) based on itunes store sales. But if that is justification for dropping the CD from the icon, then a similar argument can be made to drop "tunes" from the name since itunes as it has moved beyond just music.

Itunes will not change its name because it has a history that started with music. That history includes CDs. So keep the CD in the icon.

Rip, Mix, Burn

Well said! I agree with you completely.

In addition, changing the iTunes logo is as almost as bad an idea as changing the Apple company logo. It's a reference to a part of history.

it doesn't matter whoever complain about logo because you don't own that company which you can do anything to change. it's steve company. he does whatever he wants. like or not, you just get over it. it's just freaking logo. it will be changed someday as well.

I think it's ugly because it doesn't match with the Safari, Mail, Calendar, and all the other Mac icons I have on my dock.

Exactly what I am feeling about it. More fit on windows 7 bar. Ironically.

I, for one, don't understand why people are complaining about the icon when there are perfecly good things to be complaining about INSIDE iTunes.

The icon is is fine. But removing all color from the side-bar is not fine. It seriously makes iTunes harder to use. Why is THAT not something generating front page stories on Macrumors?

An icon? Phhht. Big deal. Anyway, you're going to hurt his feelings.

I agree.

The vertical window controls are a digital sin, as are the issues you list.. someone at Apple must repent..

I already sent a note to apple.com/feedback asking them to sit the iTunes UI devs down w/ a copy of the AHIG. I even offered to fedex them a copy.. I'd miss mine, but willing to make a sacrifice for the greater good.

Hell, while they're at it, grab the UI devs from the OS, QuickTime, iLife, and Aperture teams too...

The UI is supposed to be consistent across apps/OS.. That's what used to make the Mac superior.. Now.. things are starting to feel more and more like Windows.. no consistency between the OS and Apple's apps.. Apple's supposed to lead the way and set an example.. be superior.. This latest iTunes update in inconsistent and inferior.. and yes, Windows-like.. If I wanted to be buying MS's crappy software I would.

Apple used to know better.

It's from this guy's dA page: http://noelkudo.deviantart.com/

He says straight up it's inspired by the Looney Tunes opening. In fact, he calls the icon itself looneyTunes.

I think you are confusing Looney Tunes with Merrie Melodies. The new iTunes logo is reminiscent of Merrie Melodies. Here are pics:

Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes were not the same thing. Click on this Web page to read about the difference between Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies:

And if it's so unimportant why did you click on the post?

Why? Because I find it quite funny that there is so much uproar over an icon! The arguments on both sides are laughable! I'm just waiting for one poster to say he/she will no longer use iTunes because of the icon!

Who cares?

I never really like the icons Apple come out with in updates, but I very quickly get used to them, and iTunes should be no exception.

It does look a bit like the Windows 7 start button, though.

Oh man

The icon is hideous! The new interface is as well, they made everything grey!! Woo 1990s throwback?? Luckily I bought candybar and changed that hideous icon. Overall the new version is disappointing especially concerning bugs( app subfolder crashes iTunes everytime my ip4 is connected)I'll probably downgrade back to iTunes 9

The new iTunes is very elegant. The minimalist design, while actually adding more functionality, works well.

The min/max/close button placement might take some getting used to, though. Vertical navigation vs. horizontal navigation. There must be a reason for it.

'Luck' is just being missed by a speeding car careering out of control. Or just missing being crushed by a pane of falling glass. Or going off sick the day your office building collapses. I guess each to his own perspective.

Still sucks...

No matter what Steve or anyone else says... It sucks the big one!
I can't believe that u have a crappy generic icon after all these years of a sort of OK icon. I understand the CD had to go but why would anyone design an iTunes blue icon and then give you a brand new sterile grayscale/graphite interface?
The new Quicktime icon is cool, following a familiar design that was about 20 years old... http://www.thelogofactory.com/logo_blog/index.php/new-design-for-apple-quicktime-logo/
Why couldn't they keep the 3D effect at least... Plain dumb and horrible.

Walter Disney at WED used artists who had absolutely no formal qualifications. The designer of the famous WDW/DL Monorail never went to engineering college nor had any training in it. However, he did have passion and motivation. Too bad people don't believe in that any more. Thus America suffers as a result. Too bad.

I couldn't agree more. Passion, it's lacking in many aspects in our lives/world. Maybe we're desensitized, or jaded, who knows, but it seems people just pic careers lately for the sake of picking a career, and passion is something from a forgotten era.

It's an icon

It's just an icon (something of little to zero importance), if you're letting this torment you then you really need to get out the house and away from the computer more often, furreal. (worry, agonize and fret about something that is of importance)

I'm done, thanks

People are complaining about Apple's design choices??

Gotta love the Zune, comes in one boring flavor and updated next to never. :D
Live in Chicago and honestly never seen anyone carry one on the trains in the morning, are they even still for sell?

Think the new iTunes logo is hard to look at?

How about this x-ray of an abused child's broken limb?

I realize we are all on a Mac-centric website, but for crying out loud, given everything terrible that exists in the world today, perhaps we should all exude a little perspective and be grateful that we are fortunate enough to bitch about freaking digital artwork.

I know this will be ripped apart by some, but this is a much needed reality check. Thank you for this.
