No looks fine to me.

Amateurish?? Its simple and to the point. Music is what it's all about.

I and I would say most here are not experts in graphic design but without dispute it is hard to argue with apples record on design.

OK you can say we, yes Nokia has had a 5Mpix camera for years but no one can argue with apple and Jonny Ives record on design.

The main reason I can see to peoples objections is that its round not square.

How often now do you see apple app like icons EVERYWHERE. Its become the standard. You see it in non computer marketing too to designate features. Its now over done and apple must realise this.

Apple set the direction. They don't want to be lost in a sea of imitators so they constantly change direction so the others look dated.

We'll probably see ios 4.2 all with round app icons!!

How is it I didn't see this one posted here? It's the first entry for "iTunes icon" in Google Images and IMHO, it's very nice. Not only does it get rid of the CD, it keeps with the theme of the old iTunes icon. By Jeff Rask and free for download from his website.

Apologies if I missed a post in the 32 previous pages, lol, but that's the one I went with for my new iTunes icon. :)

Yes, new logos that match OS X schemes should go. As a matter of fact, let me propose an even better one:

uhm... if you show most people in the WORLD a CD and DVD, they wouldn't be able to tell you which is which.
If you really want to freak kids out, show them a laser disk. While you're at it, show them an 8-track tape, too.

Don't be surprised...

I think it's ugly because it doesn't match with the Safari, Mail, Calendar, and all the other Mac icons I have on my dock.

Don't be surprised if those icons change as well. They've had their day in the sun, time to update everything to remain stylish and hip.

I for one love the new icon, but alas, its an icon... no need getting too excited over a bloody icon.

Meanwhile, millions of people are homeless and dying in pakistan.

What a world.

Amen. Another commentator posted a similar "reality check", and of course some commented to "get over it", "it's not as though we're ignoring reality", and my fav "should we go shout at golfers that there's more important things in the world?". lol Golfing and such is one thing, but hundreds of posts wasting time about an icon? Time could be better spent.

The icon works. This is almost as bad when the six color rainbow was dropped for the single color / metal Apple logo. Those who don't like it can piss off!

Like many here, I abhor the new icon. I always harboured a dislike for the old iTunes icon, but at least the old one looked like someone had employed some effort in the design. The new one just seems like a lazy attempt at a garish aqua homage.

I left it on my dock for one day. When I could no longer stand the sight of it, I tweaked the design until I found it passable. I kept the icon mostly the same, but darkened the music note, removed the blue background and left the light blue flare behind the note. I've always had a likening for transparent icons. I also tried a couple different colours.

Of course, this entire post is based on individual taste and I am sure many will hate my attempt - Mr. Jobs included.

I like your tweak! It makes the icon look like a drum skin, so then it has something to do with music after all.
They should've replaced the CD with a vinyl record. The CD is indeed dead but the record is timeless, the only physical medium that is

So let me get this straight. You were browsing the forum, saw the thread and decided to click and read it, then post about how horrible people are for reading and contributing to the thread.

Exactly like it's CEO and defender and defenders

Cheap. Tacky. Lowest common denominator. Off balance. A big step backward.

And somehow, perfectly appropriate for Apple as it exists today.

:apple:

while the new icon is a bit amateur, I still dont understand why they are still using a music note. itunes is now so much more than a music player.

Its in desperate need of a rebranding.

Yes I agree. Debating icons is a bit self indulgent or sad.

But it shows peoples fascination with EVERYTHING apple does and that must say something.

Not sure what.

Maybe we should all go out and play in the sun...

Yeah, it's just an icon.

But as far as icons go, it's an awful friggin' icon. Period. You know what makes -- sorry, made -- Apple's interface really inviting? It didn't look like it was made of pixels. The screen was a window into another little sharp and tidy world. A little compass for Safari, a stamp for Mail, a speedometer for Dashboard, a camera and photo for iPhoto, etc.

Now, instead of a compact disc for iTunes, we've got an obnoxious shiny bubble. Shiny bubbles are so sickeningly overdone, and fake looking.

Also, I'm not sure why Apple has to reinvent the wheel with regard to interface every time they release a major version of iTunes.

It really sucks!

I can't believe Apple has launched this terrible icon. It looks like a 3D icon from a cheap late nineties' web, I'm very disappointed. It's even hard to find it among other icons.

I think the idea of getting rid of the CD is fine, it makes sense. But please! get a good designer to do that. Who made it?...

By the way, there is any option to go back to a previous version?

So long as they never remove the ability to rip your own CDs, forcing you to buy all your music from the apple store, with whatever bit rate they choose for you. 256kbps aac is ok, for most, but I love having some of my albums in lossless, like my queen albums, Jeff waynes war of the worlds and some Classical stuff. For the love of all things. Holy I hope they leave it in in future versions, or I'll just have to have 2 versions on my system
