Now that I've upgraded (well, updated I guess), forget the icon. The traffic light change is much more irritating and looks crazily out of place on my Mac. OS X is turning into a clusterduck design-wise.

two words and a point from Steve in a tiny remote iPhone can create an hurricane in the blogsfere ;)

If it were just an icon, then why would have Apple changed it? If CDs are outdated and even if people don't use them, then why is there a beamed note still in the new icon, as surely musical notes are never written nowadays.

I find iTunes to be a big mess. It's strongly inconsistent with the rest of OS X and does too much and none of it very well. The only explanation I can gather is that iTunes is used as some sort of guinea pig for any changes they're curious about (as a sort of extended field test).

Whatever they're doing with iTunes, I don't like it, any of it (icon included).

P.S.—It reminds me of the half-assed iPod, Phone, and SMS icons on iOS.

i like the icon.
It's Clean, simple to the point.

I miss the colors in the itunes menus tho :(

Everything looks very bland. I miss the vibrant rich colors in itunes.

I'm just happy because iTunes got a lot faster. Still needs some work in the iPhone Application/Springboard configuration, but overall much faster.

I agree that they could do better on the icon, but Apple may have rushed it out because they have a larger agenda. It is also oddly simplistic on the iPhone. Chances are it will change soon anyway. iTunes has a history of frequent makeovers.

I don't have anything against the monochrome icons, but it would be nice if they reintroduced some color. I've been happy with the use of color on the iPad and have been hoping to see more on the desktop.

I must be one of the few that actually LIKE the new icon.

Also, I have said it before, I love the way Steve Jobs is so direct. That is if he is actually the one responding.

Nothing wrong with the icon. I haven't touched a CD in years. People are more likely to believe it is a DVD or Blu ray now.

Better question: Why is the Safari icon a compass? Is it because we are "on safari", "exploring" the wild wild world wide web? Doesn't that sound a little quaint now, like something out of 1995?

I still burn a lot of what I buy, so the CD still works for me, but I could really care less. Some of you girlie boys need to find something else to do.

Lame Logo

With the poorly thought out shrinkage of the Nano and the logo designed by a 2 year old, I think Steve is either cutting back on his think tank or starting to run out of ideas. To make matters worse, still no Verizon iPhone? Really, how much disappointment can a MacGirl take? Maybe he's starting to believe what his wife has been telling him all these years, "Smaller is better, Honey..."

I'm most disappointed that iTunes is iTunes 10 and not iTunes X. The icon is growing on me, but I'll never understand why they didn't brand it iTunes X. And don't say because Windows people use it. Another subtle advertising move for Windows users, get them to see the "X" and slowly move them to OS X.

Um... Which one is the actual size of your dock?

My dock is about the size of the second one, and those mini-icons within the icon are impossible to see in that one. Heck, even in the first one, I have to actually look at the icon for more than a quarter of a second to see those little bits.

There BOTH taken from my dock. One at "rest" state and one is from the "magnification effect" when the mouse rolls over it. I use a 30" Apple cinema display so the these are shown in the native high resolution of the display. As far as those "tiny bits." I don't know what you are talking about. If you are referring to the design in the background, then from that point I guess you don't see ANY background elements in the Safari icon, the Mail icon, the Preview icon, etc. I know you want to make some valid point and are trying real hard to back it up, but sorry, you fail.

I like it. It's a stronger presence in the dock due to the color. But I'm expecting all icons to get updated in the future version of Mac OSX.

I find it very amusing that a response like this is remarked in the article as "it's clear that he is taking in users' comments and taking the time to respond".

The icon itself looks pretty basic to me. Nothing special but nothing weird either. "It's just an icon" I would have to echo.

I like the icon. It's different and I didn't fuss so much about it. What I don't get is why all of the panel icons all greyed out? It looks like it got disabled.

It looks like a generic stock icon that I could get from any stock image website. But it's just an icon. Doesn't really matter.

As a graphic designer for over 20 years. I concur: that new logo sucks! It looks like someone created that in about 2 minutes. Let see, "Take generic 2 tone aqua color circle, add musical note . . . . and . . . . there you go! Instant logo. Can I interest you in 20 animated gifs for your web site now?"

I much rather prefer something like this:

P.S. This icon was designed by Chris Carlozzi. He is a link to it.
I like your icon I would pay for it if there was an app that would change the icon from apples crap. Apple has missed the mark again. It seems to me that over the last few years apple has been putting out crap.

The centre looks a bit anus-y.
