I think it looks great in the dock. Simple and clean. Much better than the old one. People getting bent out of shape over it come across as silly. Do you REALLY think the cruddy looking cd logo was better? I've always disliked it. That purple example with the thick silver border and image shadows in the purple area, with small eighth notes was pretty bad as well.

Simple and clear to see on the dock. I like it more than the old one. The Apple logo has changed too over the years to a simpler more clean design. Cracks me up what people get all worked up over.

Even when the dock is at maximum size, your icon is about 10 times the actual size of an icon. Shrink it down to normal size, and your little icons within the icon become virtually invisible and completely pointless.

My take on the new icon? I can't think of anything I care less about. I only checked in to watch people complain just for the sake of complaining.

During a slow day at work it is amusing to jump in tho... lol

I don't like the look of it but I can see why they've gone down that route.
What I don't like is the the new grayscale look of the app itself. Tis fugly.

I concur

Don't like it, it looks amateurish, not what we expect from Apple, from MS yes, but not Apple. I'm not keen on the grey icons either. It is as if someone said what else can we change? mmmm the colour, the icon. As another poster put it. It just does not fit in with the rest of the dock items. Ping seems to be a half baked idea, broken within hours of release.

Lordy lord:rolleyes:y, think they would have sorted FB integration out well in advance.

I'm beginning to think Steve Balmer has got his MS engineers embedded in Apple now. If we can't fight them in the open, we'll wreck them from within!
:apple::(:confused:

Here's an idea... change it yourself!!! My god, some people are just so damn anal about ***** that matters less than how many times your neighbor has picked his nose in the last year!

Obviously this icon is one of several matching ones in the forthcoming iLife '11, so everyone just chill and wait for the bigger picture.

The problem I have with it is that it still symbolizes music only when iTunes is much more than that. The logo should be changed even more to reflect this, and the program itself should be renamed to iPlay, just as AirTunes was renamed to AirPlay.

But there's no defending the stupid vertical minimize/maximize button layout. Way to have an inconsistent design, Apple.

I am shocked (SHOCKED!) to learn that so many people in here liked the old icon. Really?

Yeah, the new one is a 3/10...I'm not arguing that it's good...but the old one was a 2/10.

People are actually pining for that?

Obviously this icon is one of several matching ones in the forthcoming iLife '11, so everyone just chill and wait for the bigger picture.

Good point. If iLife gives us a bunch of icons that look like itunes...just different colors...I'll rate them all as 7/10. Not amazing, but better than a single one by itself.

I'm sure that the folks who really hate this one will super-hate that idea, though.

Really?

This is an issue? I like the new logo, the old one was fine too. Can't believe it's an issue. Must be a slow news day.

I prefer the old one. It doesn't look right sitting on my dock, perhaps if it was a less pronounced blue.

What a god damn awful story...

But, I guess MR saw tones of whiney people on the forums complaining about something new, so they're running with it.

It totally doesn't. Looks great next to Quicktime X. I prefer a darker saturation of blues; it's more pleasing and exciting on the eye. Just get over it.

Business must be slow, if you're asphyxiated on a simple little icon. It looks good.

Nope, just on my lunch break. lol.

I don't care about the new logo (it's just a logo, people, get over it) as much as I care about that s#itty gray in the left side which makes me visual searching for what I need more than before.

PS: I don't have Ping at all in my iTunes (have no idea why), but I'm so happy as I don't have to search how to disable it ;)

As a graphic designer I too found the icon horrible. It has no style no class. Changing the IU to all grayscale is plain stupid. Might as well poke one of my eyes out and expect me to find things as fast. Grayscale has its purposes and its not that. I found the hacks to change the buttons and get the colors back but due to a long list of other problems I reverted back to 9.2.
Ping is just sorry. I mean come on take some time and do some research and planning.

Thats what I get for trying to be an early adopter. Maybe in time they can get it right but for now its useless.

Yeah . . . right. Take a look again buddy. ACTUAL Screenshots of this icon from my dock.

Sorry, your critique doesn't hold water.

I think it should be an image of a Milk Bone. Now that I think of it, all icons should be images of Milk Bones.

Excuse my while I change all of my icons to images of Milk Bones.

That new logo does suck... you'd think they would design something that had a connotation beyond music... especially since iTunes is a whole lot more than just "music".

75 posts about a new icon. Are all of you in your 80s? Do you realize there were an equal number of outraged posts when the icon you are all defending was introduced? It was changed from green. The only valid criticism I've seen has to due with the number of round blue icons there are. But solving that problem might require a return to green. Oh my.
