Well I hope this is true about the cancer not reoccurring, anyway.
I actually saw him in person at the apple store in Palo Alto Ca. a few weeks ago.
He did look very thin. Allot more so, than in the WWDC photos. I wanted to go up and say hi, but decided not to. He looked so thin, that I did not want to bother him. Only the staff and a few other people even new he was their.

For me, so much of Apple is Steve Jobs. What he did with it, by stepping in and turning it around in the late 90's. I dread the day he leaves.
Live long and prosper Steve

I wish he would retire so we could finally get two buttons on the trackpad on a MBP. I dont think the company would miss a beat without him. He is just a person.

haha, that was funny.

Yes, Apple did great without Steve! Remember how great the company was doing just before he was brought in as CEO?

Which is no way as convenient or fast as a 2nd physical button.

Just put it in, geesh, it's so stupid already.

I'm glad Steve told him what he thinks of him... I love that about him. This "reporter" STILL doesn't "get it" even after SJ explained it to him. Steve has integrity, when they announce his condition isn't serious (common bug) and he has no intention of leaving - that should be good enough. But if the listener is cynical with no integrity himself, he simply doesn't take their word for it and continues propagating FUD. Steve didn't want to have to call this guy up and share the details with him, but he did it to shut him up for the sake of the company and the shareholders. :apple::apple::apple:

glad he's ok. But some day our fears will come true and he will step down. Just let not hope its anytime soon.

I personally think that Steve's health should be private, how would you like everyone on the web to know what conditions you may have? Just knowing that Steve will be OK is fine for me :)

I personally like the one one button. Plus it is what makes apple computer apple. The only way I would want the second button was if I was booted into windows.

You think that would change without Jobs? I disagree. Apple and one-button mice have stood the test of time, with or without Jobs. I'm pretty happy with two-finger click (and have always abhorred tiny, awkward trackpad buttons characteristic of some other laptops). The cursor's days are numbered; there's no reason to add a second button now.

I dont think the company would miss a beat without him. He is just a person.

They certainly missed a beat or two during the Sculley (et al.) years. Sure, Jobs needed the exile to become the fearless leader he is today, but the people talking about his value to the company and market capitalization are not underestimating things.

It's not like Apple was headed for a turnaround before Jobs retook the helm. The only way the future transition will be relatively painless is if there's a compelling succession plan (and, for all we know, there may well be one).

But OK, he is just a person. Like your everyday Shigeru Miyamoto, Warren Buffet, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, or Thomas Edison. These guys are all a dime a dozen, right?

As an Apple stockholder Steve's health is very much a public matter, considering how critical he has been to the success of Apple the past 10 years. If his health affects his abilities we (stockholders) have a right to know and the board has a responsibility to ensure the company can function with a replacement temporarily, or (it can happen) permanently

Yes, the health of human #158-A5-2.5 shall be tracked closely, and will be efficiently replaced with another human upon its demise.

“This is Steve Jobs,” he began. “You think I’m an arrogant [expletive] who thinks he’s above the law, and I think you’re a slime bucket who gets most of his facts wrong.”

I think I would crap my pants...... I wonder what it feels like to get pwnd by Steve.

He didn't get "pwned" in any way, form or fashion. If Stevie boy actually thought that the journalist who gets "most of his facts wrong", why on earth then phone him up directly? Why not go to another journalist? No, the thing is, Steve Jobs thought that he could intimidate the journalist to keep quiet, shut up, and never write anything that could "damage the image". Unfortunately for Apple, Stevie boy came across as an amateur.

It's great to know that some fanboys think highly of huge corporations trying to intimidate the free press. You guys really are something.

This was a very smart way for Steve to handle it. He confided in someone with a LEGAL basis to withhold information while also having the CREDIBILITY to report accurately the conclusion. A SPECIAL MASTER of sorts.

Good job Steve.

Fanboys

You can intimidate people under certain circumstances for certain periods of time, but it doesn't lead to real happiness or genuine respect. There was a reason Jobs was fired the first time.

I doubt that Joe Nocera was intimidated as he is no wimp either.
I think it probably cleared the air and made for a meeting of the minds.

You are right, though, there was a reason that SJ was fired the first time,
it's called a huge f%^&ng mistake!

If Steven died or retired Apple stocks would drop at least 25% they would crash and burn and everyone would be a loser in the situation. Long Live Steven Jobs :apple::D

That has to be the funniest statement today.
Intimidate the NYTimes?
Intimidate Joe Nocera?

Ever heard of the Pentagon Papers?
