...if the card reads the following:

"Dear Steve,

we are glad to hear that you are feeling better and regain your health. Apple needs you!

And now, while we're at it, Steve, could you please use your regained powers, get your a$$ up and do something about the pathetic MINI???

It desperately needs your personal help, as the other guys don't seem to care about this little fella.

Best regards,
the FANBOI crowd"

Yeah, well - Wife's 3 year old HP finally had enough (funny, I bought it 3 years ago, but when I pulled the hard drive from it - most of the parts were either assembled in 2003 or 2004).

Had to retire the HP, so I went out and bought her a mini yesterday (I could not even wait for tax-free weekend, next weekend - Well, I did not want to stand in line either). tax free weekend is usually a run on all computer stores (almost as bad as black Friday). I Wanted to get her a macbook, but she did not want me spending that amount of money for what she uses the computer for.

She is still learning how to use it, it's her first mac and she is hitting the wow factor. :D

and he's dissected your joke while the whole thing flew over his head.

Actually nothing went over my head. But you apparently thought that because there's a funny remark or two in there then he didn't meant the rest of it. I guess some people never learn …

We live in a non-socialist country that doesn't pay 50% in income taxes.

We live in a non-socialist country too (just not as much "non-socialist" as the US) ;)

Free health care was introduced by a Socialist Government but has since been adopted by all parties in the UK because it was (and is) so very popular with the majority of voters (as you would expect).

The standard tax rate in 2008/09 is 20% with the higher rate being 40%.

I think we in the UK are overtaxed, but anyone in any country when asked would almost always say they were overtaxed.

As far as the free health care issue goes; if they got rid of free healthcare tomorrow i don't think for a second they would actually LOWER tax rates as a consequence.

Lastly, i think it's rather comforting to know that if i fall over and break my leg, have a heart attack, contract cancer, catch AIDS, have a nervous breakdown or develop a brain tumor then i would be picked up by an ambulance and taken to the nearest hospital where i would receive treatment for as last for as long as i needed it.

Basically in principle and in practice; in the UK, a poor man contracting cancer would get exactly the same treatment as the multi-millionaire Mr.Jobs; I'll leave that to other to decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.... :D

Uhm. You go to preferences, Keyboard & Mouse, then go to Trackpad and then tick the box tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click.

Now when you tap with two fingers on the trackpad you get the rigth-button click.

Good luck

Try reading a bit more carefully, we were discussing a PHYSICAL button....

Windows, where you have to search in multiple places to find the action you're looking for (when there's no good reason that something is only in a contextual menu).
You can't really blame "Windows" for that, as doing what you describe is a contravention of the Windows style guide. Windows has good and bad app developers, just like every other platform.

Which is no way as convenient or fast as a 2nd physical button.

Just put it in, geesh, it's so stupid already.

Two-finger click is faster and easier than right click on a laptop with a large button. The alternatives require that you stretch your thumb back uncomfortably while clicking, or that the buttons be placed asymmetrically. Personally, I think Apple's solution to this is worlds ahead of either of those, and I came to the MacBook from a ThinkPad.

If that's the case, then Microsoft habitually violates their own style guide. I can think of four system-level examples:

  • Windows Explorer desktop: When you're in a Explorer window, things are in both the file menu and the contextual menu. But, when you're on the desktop, there is no menu bar. Actions are only in the contextual menu.
  • Task Manager: You need to right click tasks processes to do things like setting priority or debugging.
  • System Notification Area: it's like a grab bag of guessing what a left or right click is going to do to a particular icon. (The Mac OS X equivalent avoids this tragic fate by assuming that there's just one button.)
  • Start Menu: Want to sort by name? Gotta left click the start menu, then right click any arbitrary icon to sort the whole list by name. (Remember to do this every time you install a program. And don't get me started on asking me what I want to do when I click "Shut Down," where it turns out that "shut down" is just one of many options...)

To be fair, Leopard initially screwed up the implementation of Time Machine when "Backup Now" was only accessible by right-clicking Time Machine's dock icon. I filed a bug report, which was addressed when they added the menu bar icon.

This thread has created a lot of negativity even amongst us Mac nuts. I suggest everyone take a step back and be happy Steve is okay, but more importantly that we appreciate every minute of our own lives. Appreciate your life and the people you care about and love. Life is truly is too short.

I'm surprised he gave into his desire to verbally retaliate this reporter, doing so is just rewarding the one he hoped to get back at, he could have just as easily given a similar such statement to another reporter.
Sorry to get off point, but what is it with Englishmen and the English language?

(insert preposition) this reporter,(replace comma with period)

And what's with this, "Jack was taken to hospital"? Hospital needs an article.
And Donna is not pronounced Donner.

Sorry for the rant. I actually love the U.K.

In BrE, Jack goes to hospital just like he goes to prison here. It's just the way it is: neither AmE or BrE is any more correct than the other. (With regard to your first complaint, I'm pretty sure that comma splices are just as wrong in BrE as they are in AmE.)

This topic is an endless debate over at Wikipedia, where it's documented in excruciating verbosity. World Wide Words is also good.

LOL, and you're the one pretending that stating that "job's behaviour was unprofessional" was an ad hominem, and now you pull this?

I'm sorry, but the mere notion that someone would think of using the word "heathen" about somebody else surely indicates something.

Further, it seems you're seeking me out only to be able to call me names.

LOL, and that's why you decide to single me out, try to start a discussion, call me names and write your post?

Looking over your posts, it's obvious you're a pathetic troll who averages 6 post posts per day instigating. Get a life, loser.

I see you haven't put those third grade manners behind you yet.
Besides, you chose to write yourself. I didn't force your hand

Sorry to break it to you, honey, but this relationship was over a long time ago for my part. ;)

Looking over your posts it's obvious you're a pathetic troll who averages 6 posts per day, with no life but to come here and harass people. Grow up, get a life and flip off.

Couldn't agree more. Well said.
Great news for his family and friends too as any health problems he has will have a huge impact on the lives of everyone else around him who loves him.

I agree, Health should be private to one...

Exactly. If Steve really wanted to discuss it, he would have make an issue of it quite a while ago.

That being said, Folks should always keep an eye on their health..get regular checks, etc. The Big C is nothin' to mess with.

Well said and well timed!

I wish he would retire so we could finally get two buttons on the trackpad on a MBP. I dont think the company would miss a beat without him. He is just a person.

True, the two buttons on the trackpad is a serious problem. I know there are tricks and finger twisting combinations to imitate the right button, but a real right button certainly increases the level of comfort and productivity.

Apart from that Steve jobs is a talented man and a strong asset, probably on his way of becoming a small bill gates.
