You don't need to be a doctor to see when things look bad. You don't need to be a plumber either to see there's a leak under the sink. Use your common sense, man.

You need to be Steve's doctor to be able to know whether he is going to die from his condition or not. We know nothing about his specific situation.

edit: of course pancreatic cancer is one of the worst to have, most people know that. However to be able to say that "it's curtains for Steve", you would have to have a lot more information on his specific situation that no-one on this board possesses. There are people who survive this type of cancer and liver transplants, so why not Steve Jobs?

"The exact source for the information is not provided, though The Wall Street Journal is reporting it as fact and not rumor. "

if its true, I wish SJ a speedy recovery, but lets not forget that there has been so many stories in the past...

Until Apple release a statement this is not fact- Apple have a legal responsibility. see the link below from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Jobs):

"In response to doubts regarding Apple's veracity regarding Jobs' health, John Gruber of Daring Fireball wrote that Apple's disclosures should be taken as accurate, since otherwise the board would be in breach of their legal responsibilities as directors of a publicly-held company."

At the next media event, Steve will point to a satellite view of the Apple campus, specifically at a new building, and tell us that for the past 5 years, they have been secretly building a new medical facility for transplants.

All joking aside. That is amazing that it has been kept under wraps, as it should. This is a pretty private and intense ordeal.

As with anyone going through such, we'd wish them all the best. Get well!

Why did some people rate this as Negative?
He is getting treatment, that is good and i hope he will be getting better
and wish him the best!

He's Coming Back?

Stunned..... I'm no doctor and know nothing about how serous this is. Apple may be in strong hands right now but he started the whole thing. He DESERVES To lead Apple. If the summary is correct, he's returning at the end of the month. Well this is the end of the month. There's 7 weekdays left. I think that if he really is going to make an appearance this month, they would use "next week" or something like that instead of "later this month". I don't want to believe it but that's how it seems and I want to be proved wrong.

:(

We love you steve, please come back.

Wow. I would imagine he'll stay in lower stress mode for a while. Good luck to you Steve.

Everyone,
please consider signing a Organ Donor card today and tell a loved one that in event of your demise you want to give the gift of life. :)

Be Well Steve Jobs!

That is great news :)

I have been a donor for about 25 years now.I am not sure anyone will get much use out of my liver...ah youth :D...they can have any other bits they like though.

As much as everyone thinks this is good news, and wishes him well ( I do too), there is a reality to this. Steve will forever more be on immunosuppressive agents to keep his body from rejecting the new liver. This seriously hampers the body's potential to fight off infections, etc. So, while this may seem like a blessing, it is also a time bomb in disguise.

this is not a shocker....

any other treatment could have been done while he was still working.

for him to take so much time off, it would have to be a transplant of some sort.

all-in-all, its a serious thing.

Wow. He was in Memphis... most likely no more than 30 minutes from me (living in downtown). That's crazy to think about!

Any clues on what hospital he was in? There are great hospitals here, but none that I can think of that are just known for liver transplants.
