Thank you Steve for the many products that have enlightened my life, not only by their functionality but also with their beauty.

You also made shopping a pleasurable experience for someone that normally hates it through stores which are stunning and manned by enthusiastic and knowledgable people.

If I take London's Covent Garden as an example, it was a mess in it's previous life but Apple brought it back to life, combining classic features with modern architecture.

From the original Mackintosh to the iPad 2, it is clear you wanted the product to be more about the user than the tech behind it.

Let's not forget what you did with Pixar, making it cool to be an adult enjoying animated films again! Again, it was more about the characters than the technology that made it happen.

You have combined two diverse disciplines, Art and Technology in a way that now we expect as the norm.

You brought Apple from near death to be the success it now is, and I have faith that Tim and all of the team will continue to innovate in an artistic way.

Rest peacefully,
Phil

He will be missed. Prayers go out to his family and friends. If he did so many amazing things on this side, just imagine what works are in store for him on the other side where his bounds are truly limitless.

Very few people understand what Steve understood. If you have the courage to follow your heart, stick to your guns and try your best to do what is right while maintaining your integrity and being fiercely loyal with a good measure of hard work and always putting your family first, then nothing anybody else says will matter. You will rise to new heights, taking many along for the ride, while the naysayers and those who easily swayed by everybody else's opinion will criticize you and shake their fists from their perches far below. In the end you and everyone is going to die, so be true to yourself and give it your all.

Steve lived his life like that. He had more life in 56 years than most people can achieve in 100 years. The man will leave a large vacuum in his place, but his creations will help to fill that void. His greatest creations are his children and the relationships he formed with those he loved. Those close to him will be a support for each other at this difficult time. His other greatest creation is the company Apple itself. Apple should honor his memory by never deviating from the path that Steve taught Apple and their leadership team to follow.

Steve Jobs Sir, you did many wonderful things for the world, and your spirit and legacy will live on through that. Words cannot express my gratitude but thank you so much for all you have done. You will be missed dearly by all of us. My prayers are with your family and friends. RIP.

Its the next morning and I still feel this empty feeling.

I may have been critical with how he ran the company at times but its business and that is what they do, protect their business.

This guy will live on in the history books as a great leader and tech revolutionist. He took the vague concepts of computers/smart phones/media players/tablets that were relatively messy to making devices that just work.

I was touched the most by the iPod. I've tried several competitors and no matter how many features the other devices have I always end up back on my iPods. The iPod gave me more motivation at work, it made everything more fun.

It really is too bad he had to leave so soon because I don't think he even reached his peak for the last decade he was just getting better and better.

I think at the keynote for the iPhone 4S that the presentation was done with a heavy heart. I think they were aware that he was reaching his end.

Wow... just wow. Knew it was coming soon, but still not prepared. I've never met the man, but feel like a family member has passed away. The world's heart truly skipped a beat yesterday.

RIP Steve!

Thank you Steve, for changing my life for the better. Not just with your excellent products that I use every day at work and at play, but with your can-do attitude and zeal for success. You have inspired me to leave the rat race and follow my dreams. Good bye friend, see you on the other side.

Our condolences from Myanmar

* We lost one of the greatest inventors in our planet who could change our thoughts and proved that the impossibles can be possible.

*He was one of the most valuable people in the world. He improved the world. He is the sample man for new generation. Because of your new inventions, we have many advantages.Thank you Steve.

* I am saddened to the news of Steve Jobs. So I think this time is grief for us. We lost an inventor of modern technology. But, the left his spirit as his technology.

* Steve was a visionary in my mind. He changed the world. I was very sad because we have lost a genius like Einstein and Edison. However, we will always remember you.

* He was the most important person for his company. We are in grief.

Thanks for making the world a more interesting place, Steve.
I acutally think your biggesteffect on the world is yet to come because your greatest legacy will be that you showed us how to "think different." That's going to ripple forward for a long, long time.

Being in Europe I only heard the news after I woke up.

The moment I realized it was true, a shiver down my spine and a tear to my eye.
Steve Jobs is my hero.
Looking back at the keynote, it all is so unreal. The eerie empty chair, Tim en Phil seemingly already devastated....

RIP dear Steve.

You shall be missed. You were one of a kind. A great kind.

I pray that those mentioning how Steve changed their lives and made the world a better place through his technology actually take steps to improve someone else's. Everyone wants to get soft after the passing of a prominent figure, and many live their lives compassionately for a few days afterwards, but try doing it for the rest of your life. Give back, donate money and time, and visit the lonely.

You know . . . . think different, not selfishly.

No wonder Tim and Phil looked horrible yesterday. I'm sure they knew then.

Imagine having to get up on stage and present knowing that your best friend and founder of the company was on his deathbed.

Yes.

Thank You Steve, for so many things you created, for the deep smart side of you that always encouraged people to follow their inner feelings. May you rest in peace.

R.I.P., Steve. You were an inspiration and, as many have said, a true visionary. You will be missed.

A pastor's take on the death of Steve Jobs.

I hope that all MacRumors people put down their iPhones for a minute and think about death, about the life after that and things that matter. Come on guys, even Steve said that we should think about these issues in order to get priorities right.

Too many people life a shallow, random and unfocused life. Ironically, constant distraction from mobile devices like the iPhone contribute to that kind of thoughtless life.

For a more fulfilled life read John 10,10...

Thanks for Everything Steve

I’m no IT person but I’m one that loves a computing experience and gadgets.

I can’t think of one person, thing or place, in today’s IT time, that has had such impacts…WORLDWIDE:

Driving force behind fully animated movies as we know it today (Pixar) Toy Story Series, A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo and many others … Impact

Driving force behind iTunes … Impact

Driving force behind iPod … Impact

Driving force behind iPhone … Impact

Driving force behind iPad … Impact

If one desires/demands a pleasurable computing experience .. Apple is the name given … Impact

News entities report early and anxiously await the unveiling of Apples new products to hit the market via WWDC or similar events … Impact

Customers camp outside of Apple stores awaiting the release of new products … Impact

Customers wait HOURS inside of malls, at the Apple store to await the release of new apple products … Impact

Invited to Presidential events … Impact

I haven’t mentioned a lot of other things Steve has accomplished because there are just so many.

He has frozen our thoughts, opened our minds, wooed our imaginations, aah’d our satisfaction and made us very hungry for what could/will be. Others have imitated his vision and used his chain of vision to create small things that maybe Apple hasn’t put into place yet but most certainly has contemplated in one fashion or another. But the bottom line is that Steve Jobs has forced the IT world to sit and broaden mental scopes across the globe. IMPACT!!

There’s no one, in today’s computing experience, we’d think to compare and compete to, other than STEVE JOBS and his Apple Company.

Steve thanks for everything! We’ll struggle to keep with your pace of computing vision and innovation and smile at the thought of if this is something Steve would have already thought of and placed into action.

You’re the man!! You will be greatly missed and forever be amongst us!

From my blog:

For me, it feels similar to when Freddie Mercury died – there went a huge part of my youth. You didn’t have to like Mercury’s music, but he was always there whenever you turned on the radio.

I grew up with Apple technology. After my first two computers, a Sinclair ZX81 and later a ZX Spectrum, I had a couple of Apple II+ and //e clones. I wanted to have a Macintosh since it was first introduced in 1984, but only could afford one 21 years later when the Mac Mini was presented. While Bill Gates and his company had more impact on my professional life, it always were Steve Jobs’ ideas that lit the fire of passion.

I don’t think that anybody at Apple can fill the gap that he leaves. The company will try to institutionalize his vision and style, but I do not believe that they will be able to truly built upon them and move further. Just like IBM and Microsoft, Apple has become too big to go out with a bang or simply disappear, but it will slowly fall into insignificance without Steve’s sense for beauty, his passion for perfection and his unique ambition to build the best digital products.

His loss will be felt throughout the industry for years to come. But as he said so himself, death clears out the old to make way for the new. There is comfort in that belief, and his example was to not live somebody else’s life but to follow one’s own heart and intuition on the way to what we truly want to become.

Its still unbelievable to think that he has passed. Taken too early like many greats of our time. I like many others where critical of some of Steves tech decisions and updates. Now hes gone is it fair to say Apple will never be the same??? I think that Apple will continue to innovate and dominate and bring us products that we dont even know we need yet. Rest easy Steve, thanks for everything Mac.
Regards
Stuart

So sad

He inspired so many people. Me included. I am who I am because of Apple. I wouldn't do what I do if it wasn't for Apple. I am eternally grateful that I lived through a time when Steve Jobs was around.

He should have enjoyed a long and healthy retirement and looked upon the world that he helped shape for a very long time to come. Wouldn't that have been amazing?

It wasn't to be.

Sad day. We love you Steve. Rest in peace.

My thoughts go out to his family and to Apple.

You will never be forgotten.
