I really wish they and other companies would do this. Any company that is consistantly has extra money each quarter should be working to move the money back to the US and putting people here to work.

I agree. But Apple is like every other money hungry company... and we all still seem to contribute to it... Going to enjo my 4s.

I'm betting he had someone to do that for him. Just a guess. And they didn't wait until 25 of them were dirty.

"Stacked up in the closet" doesn't mean a giant heap of dirty turtlenecks. It most likely were "cubbies" with folded stacks of them for him to grab at everyday.

He could be classy... check out Steve in a Tuxedo.

I'm guessing most of them are brand new in a stack, and there are only a certain number in rotation-maybe 10 or so, number based on laundry habits, and whenever one needs replacing he trashes it and grabs a new one. At least that's how I'd do it.

A sign of genius?

Actually, Albert Einstein did the same thing. His weren't made specifically for him, but I do believe he wore basically the same thing everyday. He claimed it was because he had too little time to devote to such things as clothes.

Wearing scrubs daily I agree. No need to decide what matches or looks good. Main decision is undershirt or not and if so, short or long sleeve.

Any company with extra money should either be using it to increase the company's shareholder value and stock price, or to pay out dividends. A whole bunch of people (your grandparents?) are using their investments (IRAs, 401Ks, union pension funds, etc.) in these corporations to retire without starving or ending up on the street (or to pay for their kids education, etc.). Those shareholders can then afford to buy more locally and put people in their own hometown to work.

Einstein almost certainly would be diagnosed with Aspergers today. Ignoring clothing concerns is personality trait #3 or so on the standard ASD list. High intelligence, occasionally genius, in one area is #2.

Frankly, I'm trying to figure out how this website, once made up of electronics geeks, can spawn so many discussions about useless things such as other people's clothing. Perhaps there are more 15 year old girls here than I would assume.

Well don't you look silly, my fellow Englishman? 'Gotten' is an old English word that fell out of use in England but continued to be used in the colonies to this day. Look it up.

Same with 'fall' - it's not an Americanism but a Middle English word that fell out of usage. In England, we don't even speak the same language or dialect from region to region so why are we surprised when our language changes and mutates when it leaves our shores?

Anyhow, back on topic - if Steve had 100 of these turtle-necks made before he fell badly ill then I think they actually accentuated his gaunt look later in his life. What I mean is that size-wise they were probably created for Steve pre-illness (or at least before he became seriously ill) when he carried more weight and, as they fitted looser on his frame, they highlighted his weight-loss. But, as somebody pointed out, he probably had more important things to think about than whether his polo-neck was too big.

If you're going to borrow a language, at least speak it properly. :)

:D I love the idea that America has "borrowed" the language and will one day return it when everybody in America has learned to speak Esperanto. As youngsters would no doubt say, "lol".

corrections

The clothes relating to Jobs death could be just a saying. Gawker, lets not think too much and put something out there that you probably guesstimated. Or I guess if they actually spoke with him about it then I guess you're correct.

Also you missed a word to be added in one of the quotes, you said "it would great if we would all wear these vests."

Instead It would "be" great.

I can't wait to read his Biography. Hurry up November or now it says October 24, 2011. It seems to be a big waiting game with :apple: Apple but I guess it's worth the wait on wanting something so visionary and creative.

Will miss you Steven Paul Jobs.

No, create your own style.

LOL. So many people in my experience believe what you just wrote "no, create your own style"... and because of that, it's a form of conformity when you write it.

But... because you are being honest with yourself when you use that statement, you're not necessarily conforming. You'd only be conforming if you had no mind of your own.

Anyway.... I can see myself wearing the style of clothing that Steve wore. And I would be honest with myself... I bet I could make it work. And if I can, I'd probably keep on doing it.

Besides.. if I dress like a genius, I may not be a genius because of it, but I know for me, I would gain a sense of confidence if I ever had to step foot in some meeting. Maybe not a corporate meeting, but God knows there's tons of meetings without that stereotypical business suit deal going on.

No, create your own style.
I'm not sure of your motivation for posting this, but I just wanted to applaud it. I too am fascinated by Jobs and wish to honor his memory. And whether or not you meant it that way, I think your statement here best captures his philosophy. He wanted people to think outside the box and believe they can change the World. And ultimately that is how we can best honor his legacy. Although I certainly wouldn't mind buying one of those shirts as a tribute. Although they are a wee bit pricey. Heh.

I always thought of the old Inspector Gadget cartoon when I would see Steve wearing the same thing all the time which in turn reminded me of my days in a uniform high school, in that, I felt like Inspector Gadget at one point and grew to appreciate not having to think about what I wore. :)

----------

Why has it been called a "mock" turtleneck? I never got that. What does it lack to a genuine turtleneck? Is it because it only extends partially up the neck?

I think its because the collar doesn't have to be folded down. :)

There are less jobs in this country than there was 10-15 years ago yet there's more than 30 million (probably way more if you count undocument people) more people in this country. While these retired people may be able to live off these things the generations below them need to make money before they can invest it.

"Gotten" is a awful word, i dont even think its a word, silly americanisms

It's an English word that died out on England, but survived in the US&A. Read Bill Bryson's "Mother Tongue" or "Made in America" for more info - they're both great books!!
