"I'd say the probability of Apple making such an announcement at WWDC is up there -- I'm sure they're just waiting for Steve to make the big announcement. What a comeback, Steve's first appearence back at Apple AND he's delivering the new 'Jesus' phone. You go Steve! -- that's the effect they're going for."

Steve will call Phil Schiller during the new iPhone demo. Just you watch.

And remember, I called it first.

I can see that happening. It'll be interesting to see him be the one on the monitor instead of the other way around.

It's great that he is feeling better. But, I feel like they have done such a great job trying to distance themselves from the actions and face of one man. Now, a media event for his return? For a guy who has valued his privacy tremendously? It just feels like they are pulling him out to pimp a new product. Typical Apple though.

He's old, has had treatments of two lethal forms of Cancers, cant digest Proteins, is literally starving to death and cant possibly sit in a court room for more than an hour.. that is the Fk about "dead man".
He deserves rest!

Hes not old (hes not even 60), HAD the rare form of pancreatic cancer that is actually treatable, WAS literally starving to death, DIDNT WANT to sit in a courtroom for more than an hour.

He deserves to do whatever the hell he wants, which obviously is to return to apple. He said it himself, his passion is coming up with the best possible products he can.

And if he wants it, he will take it. He doesn't have to work for the money, and no one is holding a gun to his head. As long as he wants to work and can perform his job well then so be it. What he deserves is what he wants, and if that's rest I'm sure he will take it. Until then I, for one, am happy to see him at the helm of Apple and welcome his return.

And there it is then.

Of course, like every Apple fan, I'll be overtly joyous to see him healthy wealthy and fine and return to Apple in full grandiloquence! But the ONLY point I'm trying to make is that his return probably wont be such a benefit to the company, internally, in terms of production. It'll definitely be a big morale booster and roll things over but frankly I believe the likes of Tim Cook and Phill Schiller have already taken over most of his duties since a long time now. :)

Hope he is better....this is much more important than a phone, to me anyway.

I think that Steve will return to Apple, but his days as the public face of Apple are done for.

No more keynotes. No more one-more-things. None of it. He may appear in a video chat, as someone suggested, but he won't be walking out on stage next week, or ever.

Two reasons:

1) Whatever's wrong with him, it's confirmed that stress is what makes it worse. If you've ever read about the preparation for these things, it's clear that doing these live shows are probably one of his greatest sources of stress. Cutting them out will allow him to stay as CEO for much, much longer.

2) Whether he appears or doesn't or how he looks...it makes the stock price jump all over the place. It's too wild and unpredictable. If he's out of the public eye no one will care if he takes a vacation every now and then. He'll be a 'normal' CEO again. One whose weight and working-hours don't cause the stock price to jump all over the place.

In other words, I hope you like Phil, because we'll keep seeing a lot more of him even after Steve comes back.

Really.. do you truly believe this? I think he's run his course. There's only so much that a person can really do and till such a time! Its probably just stupid to pull a dead man back to office in the pretenses of a game changing leader!
Oh he definitely was.. but he was! Its high time that the man gets his share of peace and rest and some quiet alone time. As is visible he's already put in a lot more than his life to uplift Apple!

But Steve Jobs still have to repair his biggest mistake! Microsoft is still leading and he's the only one who can kill Microsoft.

I dont think they would need to accommodate 1st gen owners as those phones were not subsidized and they could upgrade at any time.
This.

If anything its for owners of the 3g who are going to be over their first year in contract. I would think there would be a discount for people who sign another 2 year contract.
Upgrade eligibility occurs at 18 months, so early 3G owners shouldn't have to wait very long.

Seriously? The desktop O/S wars are over.

In certain ways, Apple has beaten Microsoft — they're the market leader in music players and online music distribution (probably even TV show and movies too), and they're even getting close to surpassing Windows Mobile in mobile operating system market share.

My thought is that WWDC will bring a release date for snow leopard, iphone 3.0 imformation and minro updates to the unibody macbooks/pros.

MAN I'd love to talk to you when you pass 40. Steve is 55, fercrissakes, that AIN'T old. I'll give you the other health issues, but c'mon....

One 1st Generation iPhone Who Waited for this Version

As someone who bought the 1st generation iPhone on June 29, 2009, I didn't upgrade to the 3G specifically so I could get what is hopefully coming out shortly. While 3G is much faster (I got my wife a 3G), the 3G did not have enough hardware upgrades to convince me to take the opportunity to upgrade. I may regret the decision, but ultimately, it really makes sense for Apple to release a new phone by the end of June. My applecare runs out on June 29. The last thing I would want is to have the new phone released in late July or August or September (as Gene Munster has hinted) since if the iPhone dies beyond June 29, I need a cellular phone and will be forced to get a phone I'd rather not have. So I hope Apple takes this (not just me, but others in a similar position) into account, and has the new iPhone ready by the end of June.

Also, I do hope that Steve Jobs returns soon.

As for anyone trying to read too much into his attorneys' representations that Steve Jobs could not sit through a hearing as a sign of his failing health, I will just say this. I'm a lawyer, and if I had an extremely powerful client, that client would certainly not show up to a routine zoning hearing, and that client would expect that I come up with arguments for why they should not have to appear. Can you imagine the circus if everyone knows that someone of Steve Jobs' stature is going to be in an uncontrolled setting? A lawyer worth his billable rates will do whatever (or say whatever) is necessary to keep the client from attending. (I know that will only confirm what people think of lawyers, but hey, it's what we do, and if you need us, you call).

Here's hoping for an iphone release soon, and a healthy Steve Jobs back at the helm soon.
