I also find it amusing that people can't see that Schmidt sat on the Apple board like a mole during the iPhone development.

Ah, I find amusing that people think that Steve Jobs was so stupid to not know that Google was developing Android when he got Schmidt in the board.

SJ was a visionary.
Tim Cook is just a corporate monkey... let me see Tim Cook innovate something.

First, the only person needing to get over anything, is you. Climb on down from that high horse and quit talking down to people. You, as an end user, are as factually correct as I am ... we have opinions, but we don't know the ins and outs directly.

However, in the book Jobs refers to Android as "Grand Theft", so while Apple nor Jobs never publicly said they had a problem with Schmidt, you can be damn sure there was at least a hint of a grudge at his ideas being knocked off by someone from within.

No thanks.

"I also find it amusing that people can't see that Schmidt sat on the Apple board like a mole during the iPhone development."

You didn't say GOOGLE - you said Schmidt. You didn't refer to him as a person - but in a derogatory manner, "mole"

And the fact that you think its amusing that we all don't know that Schmidt was ON the board is laughable.

No high horse needed. Your post is without merit.

I was surprised wh-smiths had them in stock today at £12.50. Couldn't resist getting one.

read the first few chapters, then couldn't resist going straight for the Jony Ive and design related chapters. As a product designer hearing about their relationship and method of working is just great. I would have loved to have seen some napkin sketches in the book from their conversations.

yap, because 3 years after the iPhone was released Google would need an insider to get information about the iPhone and their GUI or implementation.

Yap, I still find amusing how people is so naive

And I find it amusing when idiots believe that Gates was the man who brought the GUI to home computing. I also find it amusing that people can't see that Schmidt sat on the Apple board like a mole during the iPhone development.

Or the idiots that believe Apple invented the GUI when it was Xerox.

Google didn't develop Android, they bought it and it had none of the features of iOS in the state Google purchased it in.

I wished I hadn't bought this book now, I know this is gonna get minus votes in the hundreds. But I really respected Steve, but after seeing what he thought about the other people in the tech world and rival companies, he really seemed to be an arrogant, lying, self-loving man.

Im sorry but thats just how I feel about him now.

Perhaps someone can't see the forest for the trees

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I usually buy ebooks for my Kindle but I ordered the paper version of this. I want to have it even after I have read it.

No thanks.

Does it annoy you that I speak of Mr Schmidt in a derogatory manner?

I referred to Schmidt because he was on the Apple board during the iPhone development, he took to the stage during the first iPhone keynote and lauded it up, and then quit because of "conflict of interest" and before you know it, Android goes from being a basic framework OS to resembling the iPhone OS with feature like pinch to zoom, double tap to zoom in, none of which it had in the state Google purchased it in.

Jobs even hid early iPad development from Schmidt, so yes he did suspect he was being ripped off. Doesn't mean he didn't hold a grudge. And for the record, I never ONCE said that I found it laughable you all thought Schmidt wasn't on the board. What you have done, is fail to read. I said I find it laughable that people don't seem to realise Schmidt sat on the board like a mole. Yes, everyone knows he was on there, but what I find laughable is the sheer ignorance of those who don't see that while he was there, he was hoovering up ideas to implement in the very basic Android OS that Google purchased.

Again, READ then comment. Don't skim, don't browse, don't have a wee fit ... READ.

It isn't really necessary to attach a little "but he was arrogant" or "he wasn't nice" proviso to every positive post about the man. It's almost an obligatory activity around here, to bring him down a few notches lest we give him "too much" credit or overstate his achievements. We don't need to scribble in the margins of Shakespeare's plays that he was a jerk or whatever. That isn't the point. Nor is it particularly important or germane to any discussion about his work (or Jobs'.)

The self-righteous around here need to really give it a rest. We know Jobs was flawed, but that's a given. Everyone is to some degree. The obvious need not be emphasized. The only allegedly perfect man to have existed was crucified a long time ago, and in some parts of the world the jury's still out on even that.

Steve Jobs gave himself and his very life (almost down to his "last breath", as it were) for tech and for the ideas that shape it. It was his beautiful obsession, as they say. Some people can only dream of having one. He had a positive impact on our lives. That much is obvious, that much is very apparent. Focus on that, the big picture. If not, then we might as well consign nearly everyone to one or another form of fiery afterlife.

Sorry - you lost me when you became a hypocrite. "Climb on down from that high horse and quit talking down to people."

I think you doth protest too much...

The rest of your post doesn't deserve a response as it's been covered in this thread and MANY others on MR for months.

Again - nothing new here.

Talk to me like an arsehole, I'll treat you like one in return ... no hypocrisy here, end of discussion.

Please don't preach to me the Gospel according to LTD.

We're all aware of Jobs' accomplishments and what he's done. You can focus on more than one thing, LTD. You can appreciate his contributions and his mind while still exploring who he was as a PERSON.

Don't tell me or others what they need to focus on. That's pretty obnoxious.

Mmm, really?

Perhaps the part I was taling was about your inside knowledge about Android development.

But you didn't "tal" about that in the post you made, which I quoted.

I said:

"Google didn't develop Android, they bought it and it had none of the features of iOS in the state Google purchased it in."

To which you replied:

"Ah, that you have inside knowledge. Who has said that to you? Jobs, Ive, Schmidt, Rubin?

Ah, no you're only talking nonsense"

You didn't once tell me you were taling about insider knowledge.

The argument isn't about whether Apple "stole" it. The argument is who developed the GUI first (and then, whether Microsoft stole it from Apple). If anything, Microsoft stole from Xerox, not Apple. Apple deserves full credit to bringing the GUI to the home market instead of some development lab. But Apple didn't get the idea of the GUI on their own.

But then, one could argue that Apple stole the Smartphone concept from Palm and Microsoft, who came out with the first smartphones. Or the Mac app store, which was preceded by software application stores like Handmark, where you could buy Palm and PPC apps.

As the above examples show, Apple is great at refining a product or concept into something people want, but they didn't invent everything like some people seem to think.

LOL - you missed the point. You had already talked down to the forum with your initial post. I replied to your condescension and then you told me to not talk down to people.

End of discussion between you and I is right...
