Because they have a different POV?
He didn't say ANYTHING about the guy's opinion. He only quoted a single word from his post and it was not the opinion part of the post.

I don't think it's the case that people aren't grasping this, it's just that Jobs' essentially built strawman logic around his justification for not supporting Flash. Change a few words and application names in his letter, and it could easily be Adobe's response talking about Apple's products. It's about Apple's posturing itself as some sort of great martyr for the cause of open standards that's ironic. It is possible to have an open philosophy to some things (like the internet) and not others (such as OS'). Most people aren't grasping this!
This makes complete sense.Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind"
Agree.Abobe in my opinion misread their ability to exert influence over Flash.
The iPhone uses web standards and that makes it an open platform?
Please!
Yes, anybody can download the development kit for the iPhone and code up applications. But then the powers at Apple get to turn thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the applications based on secret and seemingly arbitrary criteria, often negating hundreds of hours of work on the part of developers.
Flash? I hate it, hate it, hate it. But it HAS become an entrenched standard on the Internet. And depriving consumers of the ability to use those web sites catches them right in the middle of this Apple/Adobe tug-of-war.
What would make sense to me is for Apple to allow Flash onto the iPlatforms in a way that gives the consumer control of whether it can be active, perhaps in an on-demand or white-list-url fashion...look at "Click to Flash" for the Mac platform.
All I know is that, while Flash is mostly used to annoy consumers with out-of-control advertising, there are a FEW desirable sites that have chosen to implement actually useful programming in Flash, and some of us consumers suffer because of the iPlatform's inability to use those sites.
This isn't about corporate financial struggle; this isn't about corporate power brokering; this isn't about security; this isn't about battery performance. This IS ABOUT giving the consumers what they want AND letting consumers make their own informed decisions.
Steve just needs to get over himself and stop trying to be the Czar of the hardware and Internet.
5. Touch compatibility - The only legitimate issue on the list. But guess WHAT!!!! Figure out how to support roll over!!!! Its not Flash's fault that touch is limited in its features. Guess What again!!!! I like the feature-rich mouse and cursor. Are you saying the iPad will never support similar features. Guess what again!!! If i try and use flash that requires roll over, i will learn it doesn't work very well on the Ipad and stop doing it. Guess what again!!! Most flash sites I frequent don't care about roll over, and neither do I!!!
I'm going to ignore Jobs' "black is white, night is day, Apple is open" logic in this letter and focus on the outcome instead: A major industry leader is telling a long-standing company that it's pseudo-standard for Web content delivery is dying and deserves to be replaced by a modern, real standard.
Time was when computer companies went lock-step in line with what I call pseudo-standards like Flash. I could only wish that Jobs would post another letter called "Thoughts on Office" to follow this up.
I assume you meant Flash support.
You can start by heading over to HTC's website for a short list.
Then head over to Nokia and Motorola.
The only thing I wish he would of added to the letter...... Since he was talking about Adobe, Apple and Desktop publishing, I wish he would of stated that is going to continue.... or something along those lines.
Good read. I am waiting to see how Adobe takes on this.
Do you buy anything, period? Seriously, all I ever see you post is what you won't spend money on.Not that I would buy anything from iTunes or media in general.
It's not about his position.
It's about seeing this thing religious... if he says Amen to the words of Steve Jobs he has a serious problem.
Change a few words and application names in his letter, and it could easily be Adobe's response talking about Apple's products.
Steve Jobs said:Fortunately, there are over 50,000 games and entertainment titles on the App Store, and many of them are free. There are more games and entertainment titles available for iPhone, iPod and iPad than for any other platform in the world.
Steve Jobs said:We know from painful experience that letting a third party layer of software come between the platform and the developer ultimately results in sub-standard apps and hinders the enhancement and progress of the platform....
This becomes even worse if the third party is supplying a cross platform development tool
you're kidding yourself if you think that site couldn't be done without flash....
Apple just isn't going to roll over and do what you want them to.
WWDC 2010 is looking like a mobile only party. You guys are missing one of the most important things in the letter:
"Flash was created during the PC era for PCs and mice. ... But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards all areas where Flash falls short."
Looks like Apple are moving away from PCs altogether. WWDC 2010 anyone?
Do games on Steam count?Do you buy anything, period? Seriously, all I ever see you post is what you won't spend money on.
WWDC 2010 is looking like a mobile only party.
Bottom line, I will be voicing my opinion non-stop. Ipad should support a cursor AND mouse, should print, and should support FLASH!!!! no doubt about it.
Apple is basically trying to mind-meld the masses, convincing the world that we simply don't need these archaic computing devices, such BS.

In all honesty, with the lack of incentive on the Mac hardware side, I'll more than likely be spending my computer budget on a new computer desk, U2410, and a new video card instead of a MacBook.Indeed, there are only awards for mobile apps, no longer best mac app!![]()
