There's your Idol. Also shows why Apple saw no problem whatsoever using its early adopters as beta testers all these years. And purposely screwing up each version of the OS right before the next one came out.

And how did the purposely screw the os before the next one came out?

Btw to all the bitches here, the man comes out and makes a statement about such a private issue and gets oh you lie/you should of done it earlier/it's really cancer/you are irresponsible to the co./you say this so the stock don't tank replies. What is this bunch of crap you utter morons? FYI even heads of state keep their health issues private, as they are supposed to do, let alone ceos, besides if the man's co. is perfoming in an above stellar way why is he being accused of anything? Had the co. being in problems then there MIGHT have been an issue, but not now. Bunch of morons...

uhhhh-greed! I can't believe half the posts on this thread. Steve Jobs, no matter what the situation, does not have to answer to any of us and does not have to tell us how healthy he is. It's pretty sickening that the man shares something very private with the entire world and he is met with such ridicule and anger from fans and random trolls.

Well said.

Too much speculation going on here.

Amen brother, too much projection and bad vibes here by a lot of people, they just have to project their negativity. "Oh my ceo of my co. since I am a 20 stock stockholder of apple in my portofolio didn't personally address a letter to me with a scanned copy of his xrays, blood tests, urinal tests AS SOON AS anything was wrong with him. I don't care if he was too ill and too busy skyrocketing apple to record breaking highs and dwarfing the whole industry's growth rate, he should have at least faxed me those damn urinals!!!" Unbefriginlievable....

He just looks like he's getting older. Happens to all of us. I personally like that recent picture w/ his playful tiger pose. :)

Honestly, it's sad that it had to come to this point. Jobs' health is a private matter until it affects the stockholders. The funny thing is, it was not affecting stockholders until people made it that way. Every time one of these stupid rumors goes around, Apple stock drops, and that is simply not a good thing for the market, the economy, Apple, or Apple's customers. So it is essentially rumor spreaders who pushed Jobs to release such private information.

I think it is important to notice that it is _not_ Steve Jobs' health that affects the share price, it is the rumours that are spread intentionally, and the idiots who listen to them. I would have thought that people know by now that attempts are made to manipulate stock prices to make money from the reactions of panic sellers. Maybe Apple should issue a statement "if you are easily influenced by rumours, don't buy Apple shares".

Apple increase shareholder value by innovating, building good products, marketing them well, and selling them at highly profitable prices. I don't see Apple being responsible for the reactions of share holders who just shouldn't be in the stock market.

Columnist writes article about Steve Jobs and his health telling everyone else to drop the matter, throwing in an anecdote about a personal friend with cancer. Manages to come of as both pious and judgmental while ensuring there's relevant copy to hit deadlines, garner traffic and get those ad views.

"Journalist writes about news!". Whatever next.

FWIW I think he hits the nail on the head in that article. Oh, and I would imagine the anecdote was about his mother who died of cancer last Autumn (don't think I'm dropping any secrets there, he posted about it on his blog). Still, I suppose you'll just say he's cynically exploiting that for profit, eh?

Bottom line: Jobs is lying to keep from losing money, instead of telling the truth to save lives.

There is no rational basis for this assertion. It only makes sense if you assume all of the speculation to be true. You can't assume that speculation is true, because that's the nature of speculation. Jobs has just given a reasonable explanation of his condition. They are statements of fact, straight from the source, against the wild speculation of armchair physicians and financial analysts. The most likely answer is that Jobs is telling the truth and his health will be fine.

If you want to claim that Jobs is lying, you need a better reason than you want the speculation to be true.

I can't figure out what kind of sick, morbid people would rather believe that Steve Jobs is dying than take him at his word that he'll be fine.

Glad that he has made it public. Ends speculation.

If only it had.

Well, I don't think you need to be "sick and morbid" to believe that. If you knew anything about Jobs history, he had went through some "path of enlightenment" in a period of his past where he basically led the hippie life taking drugs and god knows what else he was doing...

That's gotta take a toll on your body with some future repercussions.

That's it... he's dying of acute LSD poisoning!

That's gotta take a toll on your body with some future repercussions.

Probably, but what's the evidence that Jobs' current condition has anything to do with that? Jobs gave a good explanation of why he's been sick. Anything beyond that, without concrete evidence, is still pointless, and morbid, speculation.

While I respect the man very much, I dont understand why people treat him like hes god. When he doesnt show up, or rumors start that he died, people freak out and start crying.

well, may be they dont cry, but they throw a huge deal...

I just dont get it.....

Let me ask you this, do you like it when they have the 'save the children' commercials on? Do you like seeing malnourished people, or people that have terminal illnesses?

Just a Question.

Thats not what I'm talking about. Like I said, I respect him very much and its sad that hes sick, i;m just talking about when people make such a huge deal over these rumors....

You need to learn to read instead of making such posts

"The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment. But, just like I didn't lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple's CEO during my recovery."

Does anybody know what he means by "simple and straightforward"? What kind of treatment is it?

All you do is replace the abnormal hormone, thus "simple and straightforward".

I wasn't attacking you, i was just making a statement. Like I said it was just a question.

On a side note, i think i take it pretty seriously considering i have investments in Apple, many investments. Both stock, iPods, and money invested in computers; as well as many users on this site.

I just don't like hearing things like that either, just because of what i have tied into the company. Also, because if something were to happen then, i would hate Apple to return to their old ways.

May you get well

I know how hard it is to recover from cancer, the more you are in a stress-full situation the harder it is for your autoimmune system to fight the disease.

So take it easy and enjoy life.

Pancreatic cancer is a serious disease. A woman close to me got the diagnosis around the time Steve Jobs did, unfortunately she got the more common variant that is much more lethal. They didn't manage to get it all and now she is fighting the battle of her life.

So this one is for you Steve, may you grow old and watch what you contributed to the world grow into fantastic new directions.

I have seen the craftsmanship and direction he has contributed to apple from within the mac community. Not always agreeing, but always a bit amazed on the cheekiness of where he takes apple. Going USB only.. damn I have to buy a new wacom tablet. Water cooled monster chips from IBM? The most advanced cooling on a shipping pc!

I almost feel self conscious about this, I want him to recover so I can enjoy crazy new stuff that make me go: OOH AAAH... that IS cool.

It is a personal matter though, and he deserves the right to be left alone with his family during the this time. Only thing we can hope is that he recovers totally and that he will continue to do what he does best for years to come.

Best wishes

They say that everyone is going to die...it's just a matter of how you exit.

He can be remembered as someone who stuck to his vision and gave it all to inspire many generations in the history books.

Or he can be written off as another one who deserted when he still had it in him to continue for a little bit.

Maybe someone like Jobs is not so much a "family man" as you would relate to and rather a figure more towards the "larger than life" category. Seems the former is rather trivial in this case...

True, the ultimate choice is up to him...but I would give him more credit if he stayed his course until the end. ;)

If you knew anything about Jobs history, he had went through some "path of enlightenment" in a period of his past where he basically led the hippie life taking drugs and god knows what else he was doing...

None of the drugs that he took* are known to cause significant long-term health problems. LSD can cause psychological problems when taken by people with various pre-existing psychological conditions, but taking acid and smoking pot won't cause you to die any younger or to mysteriously lose weight when you hit your 50s/60s.

* I'm not privy to any inside info, so I'm going on the basis of what he's admitted to, and to what people have claimed to have observed.

Well, there are a lot of things we don't know about, like why LSD causes "flashbacks" years later, etc.

I had this coworker that took LSD back in the days so I asked whether he had any flashbacks and he said "Oh really? I didn't know it does that. I do remember once taking a step down the stairs and I got really freaked out because I thought I was jumping off a cliff!" ROFL!

And drugs don't have a long term effect on your body??? Stay away from my children! :p Just because they don't have a 50 year case study documented, it doesn't mean that you automatically rule it out.

I'm not saying that his past life definitely had anything to do with his illness or weight loss. As a matter of fact the weight problem was prolly due more to medications. But the fact that he had to take medications CAN be attributed to bad health caused by "environmental factors". It could have been asbestos when he was making the Apple garage...who knows. Of maybe it's just genetics. It's unfortunate, but it just makes it less "shocking" that he fell ill at such a young age. Hopefully it goes away and and he leads Apple for another decade or two. But the fact is, sometimes people just don't recover from these events too well.
