Something like this is always weird. You know it is coming, but you try not to think about it. Then it still knocks you on your ass when it does.

Thank You Mr. Jobs and I wish you the best.

I think this says it all:

Indeed. People really should know how to select multiple columns in Excel by now. :p

You're seriously a douchebag. Have some respect.

A lot of people have been inspired by Steve. He's a human being. One that is having a lot of health problem. This post has gotten to 500 posts faster than any ive ever seen. Stop being a douche.

Although I agree 100% with you be careful... I got banned for calling someone that a while ago and then a temporary ban a year or so later for calling someone a "Liar" ....

i can't believe how many ppl are writing him off that he's sick and dying.

nothing was said about that.

he's just stepping aside. maybe going to spend more time with family and enjoy his ga-billions.

Imho, the timing is perfect - new iphone coming out, dominating the tablet market so any stock hit will be minor.

I say thanks SJ for being the leader and bringing this company back in such a strong way. Good luck enjoying the down time. Looking forward to seeing him announce the new iphones in a few weeks. I'd be really surprised if he didn't.

Let's be positive folks! :)

ROFL.

Do you think we're *that* stupid?

Cut the **** and write a comment that is actually worthy of this news.

There have already been a few members who have used even a thread like this as their hater play-thing. Don't be counted among them.

No, I don't think you're stupid. Disingenuous perhaps if you really believe I'm equating Apple with the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei. The comparison is against Germany's military situation in 1941 onwards.

Guess what? It's now 1942 for Apple.

Oh and I'm not hater. I will say however, that it is my hope that Tim Cook will govern with a more sensible approach that involves restoring Apple's long neglected professional segment. That same segment which consisted of Apple's most loyal customers who kept the company afloat for more than 20 years prior to the iOS craze before being relegated as second class citizens.

Job's utter contempt for the desktops (i.e. Mac Pro) was, at best, completely unnecessary.

A great man is slowly dying and all you are concerned about is your falling stock prices...shame on you.

Exactly. I may not always agree with what he's done but he should be credited with a lot of accomplishments in the company all those years. He's not god, granted, but just a man.

I do think people who talk stock prices on here should'nt be allowed to do just that. I suggest moderators should prohibit users from talking stock prices on this board because the liability to get caught for 'insider trading' information is quite risky.

Guys, don't fret too much.

- He's not dead.
- He's still working in a pivotal role at Apple, if anything will have even more time to be directly working with the product teams.
- He has instilled his work ethic, ideology, style, design, taste amongst Apple's key employees. Job's vision will carry on regardless. Ives, Schiller, Cook et al have been and will be powering on for years with just the same nuances that Jobs has done.
- This transition has been smooth, and slow. Feels pretty might right honestly.
- Apple's product roadmap and plans would be set many, many moons in advance.

Sad day. But Steve had a great run. I hope he'll be okay and that he's set up the company in a direction of success with enough momentum to last a while.

is it something more?

First and foremost, very few people in the world have shown the ability to dream AND create the way Mr. Jobs has done. Like many others, I believe failing health is the main reason for his resignation, however, I also believe there is more to it.

With the latest rumors of iOS 5, iPhone 5, and possibly iPad 3 being pushed beyond September, money becomes a potential factor. I am not an Apple employee thus I do not know the inner workings. My opinion here is based on my belief that Steve Jobs has to place a stamp on many, if not all, major decisions. IF iOS 5, iPhone 5, &/or iPad 3 were delayed past September (into October as is being reported) due to the lack of Steve Jobs being able to review & approve any part of any one of these, I would have to assume the board was left with no choice other than to blame the 'fiscal year loss' on Jobs' inability to keep with the workload. Bringing this to his attention may have been the final straw so to speak in his decision regarding his ability to effectively run the company.

I hope his health is ok. And I wish him well.
But this could not happen at a worse time. All the PC manufactures are hurting and Apple is kicking but in sales. I hope Tim Cook can keep the momentum that Steve has started going for Apple.

I really would like to think so but so many of the decisions re aesthetics, be it hardware or software, have been his (of course with a healthy dose of Jonathan Ive and others). Cook clearly is highly competent but Steve Jobs is something else.

Thats sad :(:(:( apple on't be the same without him the CEO.I won't be happy anymore if he's not in the Events

see ya around steve

Dumbest comparison ever.

Just stop.

I can't say I didn't expect this.

If this is the case, then maybe you shouldn't have posted it. If you knew it would need defending because it was either a) crass or b) just plain wrong, then guess who's being disingenuous?

"user posts faintly-Nazi related opinion and then attempts to explain it."

LOL.

You've been outed, so just live with it.

Had to come out of the shadows to post on this :(

Sad day but I hope that he gets healthy.

If you trust what Steve stood for you have to believe he wouldn't let his company fall into disarray by leaving it in bad hands. His culture and vision IS Apple and has been for many years so that is enough to sustain it into the future.

Hopefully Tim Cook has the same "we can do anything" attitude Steve did and they keep innovating as they have been. Good or bad, it will be an adventure to see where Apple goes in the coming years.

Please Apple, don't rest on your laurels and don't settle for success, keep innovating beyond your success and give us "one more thing"

Cheers Steve, and thanks for everything!
