This is a small bump in the road for Apple ... sadly though I believe Steve's health has not improved.

All the best Steve ... thanks again for taking us this far. :apple:

I think Apple will be an interesting company to watch in the next 10 years. Even more than the last 10. Stock tomorrow will, I'm sure, drop. I have no doubt Apple will stay strong and innovative... but other big companies have faltered post Original/Founding CEO for several years. Apple already had their "fall" and was resurrected by Jobs... so like I said - will be interesting to watch

Wow. I've waited for this moment to come for so many years... and now that it's here i almost want him to take it back.

I might disapprove of your ways, but in the end the world wouldnt be the same without you. Thank you for everything that your visionry have achieved. Thank you for making sure that some of them will never be more than a vision.

Tim cook is nothing on Jobs the only other apple employee with the same quality and place in the apple hierarchy is Johnathan Ive.

It’s got to be hard to take on a “new role” in something you’re so close to. But it’s good that he’s able to step back and make that tough call.

With any luck, this means less of him micromanaging, and negotiating, and all those other responsibilities, and more of him guiding products and generating ideas. (Not to mention getting/staying as well as possible, given the surgeries he’s had.)

(He’ll probably get a pay cut from $1.00 to 50 cents. He should have enough stock and savings to manage that, though!)

In all fairness, and for all his great ideas, Apple needs a new lease of life. Is perceived cult status will be the death of Apple (in 10-15 years) and the gradual, slow change needs to happen.

What a ridiculous notion. Apple's "perceived cult status" is what has and will continue to help it thrive in a sea of undifferentiated junk-ware. The also-rans would kill for that sort of "cult status."

What brilliance would you recommend next, licensing out OS X for PeeCees?

Damn

I am saddened by the comments regarding the Apple stock price! Steve's health should be the foremost thing on everyone's mind, not the stock price.. Steve Jobs has been the greatest thing ever to happen to the personal computing world and yes, he will be missed, but Apple will go on. Tim Cook is a great guy and wholly capable of taking Apple to continued successes. I wish Steve all the best and will pray for his health and his family. I would also like to wish Tim Cook all the best in his new role as CEO of Apple. I was pleased to read Steve's comment on the succession plan, it was great to know he and the Board had planned for this day, sad as it is.
God's speed to you Steve in your future, may your health improve and you live a long and have a happy retirement! :)

Absolutely stunned. A little nauseous right now. I can't believe I just saw this on the news. I never thought I'd see the day.

I pray for Steve's health and wish all the best for him and his company.

I hope he does one last keynote this September. Many of the products he was most proud of will be updated. If not, I understand.

Get better Steve. Enjoy life.

A very sad day

It's the end of a golden age at Apple I fear, and probably not a good sign for Steve's health.

We can only hope that Apple has been well positioned and structured to cope without Steve at the helm.

Stay well Steve...

I know Apple has been planning for this putting the best people inline to take over but I am still saddened by this. Jobs was an amazing leader. I hope him all the best and hope Apple continues on this amazing run.

Jobs is dying fast

Why not wait for this weekend? Why not wait until Friday, and allow Wall Street to absorb it over the weekend so the stock doesn't take such a hit?

I think the answer is Steve is going to die soon, and they weren't sure they could wait until Friday. And I think that's why they moved up the release date of his biography.

This sucks. He's perhaps the greatest visionary, entrepreneur, CEO, and visionary our country has ever seen.

Godammit.

Good luck Steve
