So sad. Clearly his health is the issue. If the situation weren't grave I seriously doubt he'd be stepping down.
I've been a Mac user since the late '80s when I bought a used MacPlus 512k. Over the years I've used practically every OS in both professional and personal environments but I always come back to the Mac. As much as the company's migration from computer company to consumer electronics company has caused me dismay, Apple is still my go-to source for practically every computer related hardware purchase I make.
I'm concerned about the future of Apple in a post-Jobs era. The company has always struggled without his leadership. But the real concern is for Jobs himself. I hope he is able to recover and lead a long life, even if he no longer drives Apple.
He'll still be Chairman, at least according to Apple (via Engadget). I hope that he is doing well, and is just hoping to be able to step out of the lime light, and show everyone that the company isn't dependent on him.

First of all, I hope his health hasn't played too much in his decision, but I fear it may have I wish him to get well soon.
Second, I think my feelings are shared by many here who have not always (and maybe still don't) agree with a lot of his decisions.
However, one thing is for sure. This man is one of the greatest visionaries and contributors to the personal computer world. Founding Apple, being arm wrestled out of his own company, Next Computers, then serving humble-pie on his own company and turning its fortunes around from near bankruptcy to #1 most-valuable tech company on Earth...
Kudos to you Steve, I bowl before one of the shrewdest businessmen alive.
May you still live long and watch your creation fly to new heights

Wow that sucks.
Now I feel guilty for buying my Mom and my Girlfriend a HP Touchpad yeasterday. Don't worry though I still have my iPad 2.
Hope Steve doesn't die and stays involved at Apple.
I haven't always agreed with all his decisions, but he's been at the heart of making amazing products which have made a material improvement in my life for years and I am very grateful to him for that. I wish him all the best.
didnt see this coming? as the article said he is on the third leave of absence for health reasons. how many does it take before you get a clue?... more than three obviously.
No joke, I had a dream last night that Steve Jobs died and Tim Cook was made CEO. Glad Steve is still alive, but it's a bit eerie that I dreamed of that last night. I seriously woke up this morning and checked the tech blogs to make sure it was just a dream.
