I dont know what happened TBH. They were trying to run iWork on Windows.

Can't they just run Apple OSX in a VMware Virtual Machine on their Windows system?

Oh, I forgot that the Turtlenecked Overlord won't allow Apple OSX to run in a VM on Windows on a non-Apple branded box.

(Hopefully the EU or Department of Justice will break that anti-competitive clause before too long.)

thats funny, because parallels, vmware AND virtual box can all virtualise OSX server on non mac hardware - regardless of the stupid EULA. :) moot point.

Yet the pointless whining endlessly persists...

It's not anticompetitive. Anyone is welcome to compete by making a better OS. It's just that no one has yet...

Didn't you know?

Ford dealerships should be granted the right to install Mercedes brand monitoring and Distronic systems into their lines of automobiles.

This unfair exclusivity has got to stop.

Anti-competitive.

I am glad he doesn't. I applaud Steve for his standards. Not only is OSX the best OS I have ever used ( I have used Linux and windows from 3.1 to XP - I wouldn't even dare touch Vista or 7), Apple hardware is just elegant looking. I am never buying an ugly PC with buggy windows again!

I once closed a support issue at work with "inadequate software". They were running windows, and th

So true!

I have no idea why windows users keep trying to tell us Mac users that windows is better. Especially on a Mac specific forum. Don't they realize it just makes them look as bad as the OS they are defending. I will never go back to windows after seeing how headache free my computing life is now that I have switched to Mac where everything "just works!"

Who's arguing here?

Your claims of "approval," and "void where prohibited," do not pertain.

Their decision not to offer this "fringe" peripheral hasn't stopped anyone from installing one and using it on their own - no one's prohibiting anything here.

Either way, "It Just Works."

As long as you don't want to do anything that isn't apple approved. Again glad we agree. :D

And "fringe", this has been covered. Really. Read the thread.

You mean like the GM branded Saturn Vue that used a Honda J-series engine ? Or the Toyota Cavalier :

If car manufacturers were as uptight as Apple, a lot of this mixed blood wouldn't exist. Yet to the benefit of the consumer it does.

Authoring ? You can't author proper BDs on Mac. Sure you can probably make some kind of image for a disk with HD movie that will be written to some kind of Blu-ray media, but I seriously doubt FCP supports all the required profiles and functions that Blu-ray offers, especially for the interactive parts of the standard which have a deep integration with Java.
Yes, with FCS Compressor you can only transcode your movie into a BD compatible file which can be burned with Toast.
To author a real BluRay discs with interactive menu designs of your own, you would be needing Adobe Encore, which is a part of Premiere Pro for Mac.
Some people are claiming that Premiere Pro CS5 has caught up with FCS by now and has already surpassed it in some areas!

Would it be smart driving even more people towards Premiere, when Adobe's editing suite already becomes more attractive with every update?
The 64-bit situation alone has tempted many FCS users to take a closer look at Adobe's solution.

As a graphic designer and sometimes videographer I'm still undecided wether I'll be buying the CS5 Design Premium or the whole Master Collection. I always wanted to get my hands on After Effects, and due to that dreadful BD situation Premiere could become useful as well.

Besides I have a growing bad feeling that Apple is losing interest in professional video creation and therefore Final Cut Studio might not be around for long...

Funny, PS3 is capable of playing BD out-of-the-box, yet, "Bluuuuu-Raaaaaayyyyy" - not happening with an XBox.

Because Microsoft bitterly supported its dead competitor, HD-DVD.

They could easily do the same with an exteranl Blu-Ray drive or even integrate it into the 360, but they won't.

I think you're mistaking Mac OSX for iOS.

OS X's user land is pretty much wide open to anything. The problem is kernel space, which is Apple reserved. The thing is, choices they make in kernel space, like including or not certain functionality

This is largely in contrast to other systems which have DDKs available that are much less restrictive and the incentive to accept new technlogies, no matter if they compete or not with current offerings.

I was aware that "OSX Server" can be virtualized - but I did not say "OSX Server".

Besides, does it make a lot of sense to buy a $499 OSX Server license to run a $79 iWork application inside a VM on Windows running on an Apple computer? ;)

Still wanking on about "Apple approved," huh? :p

Perhaps when consumer demand for this peripheral reaches a high enough level, this single company will determine it to be a profitable offering.

Gee, it would make much more sense for MS to offer a BD option in a console which interfaces with a large screen TV - ever wonder why they don't?

Riiiight, this thread so thoroughly represents global consumer and pro markets.

I didn't mention engines, nor hardware for that matter, which Apple doesn't even manufacture.

I did, however, mention Mercedes-Benz, and, to my knowledge, they haven't been distributing their patented technology to other manufacturers.

Are they uptight as well? :)

They shared tech with McLaren... For at least a little while...

you're right... steve jobs didn't invent ANYTHING.

he's not an inventor.

Jobs is listed as an inventor on hundreds of patents. You can't be listed as an inventor on a patent application unless you ARE an inventor. You can have your opinion, but don't screw with the facts.

Anyone who helps with the patent - for example by reviewing the proposal at any stage - can be listed.

At the minimum all that means is that at some point in the very long process of submitting the patent proposal the paperwork crossed Jobs' desk - therefore Jobs is listed.
