Or do what a lot of others do and pony up $100 for a Blu-Ray drive for your TV. HDc(1080p) is relatively useless on a small screen anyway.

I used to have a Blu-Ray drive in my Asus G71G-Q 17" (1900x1200) and I used it 4x in a year maybe...between the BR Viewer software and territory/license renewal crap, it's less than user friendly.

I also hated having to hear the spindle going while I was trying to watch a movie in the same "sound space".

You can forget about battery life on your mobile device if your using it to watch "old" media based content anyway (digital based content makes more sense here on sooo many levels).

Different argument for the desktop form factors but then your already getting into diminishing returns for Apple.

Don't get me wrong...I've been a "big screen / HD" guy for the last decade and an early adopter of BR (via stand alone player, not PS3), 3D Blu-Ray player and 55" 3D set today, and I still couldn't care less if I have a BR drive in a MBP or iMac.

There are simply better (and cost effective) alternatives today.
couldn't agree more... if they added blurays or an option for bluray i wouldn't complain. At the same time I don't think I would ever use it... only time I have ever used the optical drive on my mac in the last 3 years was to install Snow Leopard.... I guess I've just never seen the point in watching a movie on my mac, way rather put it on the 50" Plasma, but I understand why some others could want a bluray player.

Of course, we can't forget the infamous BSOD (blue screen of death). If MS hadn't come out with their crapper of an OS after XP, I probably wouldn't have jumped ship.

That's why I threw in the towel and also jumped ship after XP. I was simply tired of dealing with buggy software. BD support in Windows is also not worth the headache for me to deal with that "crapper of an OS" ever again. $100 basic BD player and the PS3 solves my BD viewing issues.

June 2006, if wikipedia has this one correct. That sounds right.

yeah it depends on the country.... bluray was unveiled in 2000, first devices popped up in Japan in June 2003, first US bluray titles shipped June 2006.. the playstation 3 was launched later that year in November.

Haha I read 20 years :)

I think you missed the first post in this little line of discussion. Someone mentioned their potential feelings about bluray in 2025. 2025-2006 is around 20 years.
My bad that I didnt get. Well 2025? Then this thread will implode by then :)

i recently solved my problem with that. by getting LG USB2 BLURAY burner.

LG Blue 6X BD-R 2X BD-RE 8X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 6X BD-ROM 4MB Cache USB 2.0 Blu-ray Burner BP06LU10 LightScribe Support

use it on my macbook pro, excellent.

I don't see what's so wrong with Apple simply offering it as an option. Wouldn't kill them.
at least just read like the last page or two... jesus the question has been answered a million times why they don't do it.

Some people don't agree with the answer - so they want to discuss it on a discussion board.
yep so lets just keep repeating the same arguments over and over again, and then when someone comes in and says, "idk why apple doesn't support bluray" we can just rinse and repeat even more.... this thread has over 5,900 posts and has been going for almost a year, if you want to discuss it at least add something to the conversation rather than the generic "i don't understand why apple doesn't give us the option"

it's already been discussed, add something new if you're going to chime in...

haha nobody in here is telling you to be a sheep... if you don't like it speak with your wallet. Also FYI, you can add your own bluray drive to the iMac or the Mac Pro if that's your wish.

Have you ever thought that maybe the reason more people don't complain is because they don't care that much....? Trust me, when people don't like what Apple does, they speak about it, and Apple listens.

For example, the mute/lock switch on the iPad caused an uproar, and apple turned it into an option in preferences. People complained when the iPhone first came out about the lack of cut/copy/paste... sure enough Apple added it, very similar to backgrounding, and a lot of other iOS features. You are more than able to voice your opinion, just because others may or may not share it or may not have the same passion about it does not make them sheep.

BD, Flash...when Jobs closes his mind there is no hope...is that Not so.

Groups ask FCC to investigate AT&T broadband caps

Since this is a common topic, thought I'd pass this article along.

I remain cautiously optimistic that efforts such as these will help foster a less limited, more consumer-friendly Internet.

And at the same time, Apple is talking about putting ARM processors in all their devices - and that comes with the assumption that like the Touch/iPad/iPhone, no physical media and all Apps through downloads...

i only treated it as a fact based on what i read until proven wrong, then even admitted and apologized for the misinformation... don't be so conceded and pull your head out of your ass oh mighty one. Oh wait i'm sure you are the know it all and have never been wrong your whole life

Yes, you treated your opinion as fact. That's pretty much what sums up every single post on this topic that you make. I can't imagine anyone acting more "high and mighty" than that.

The fact that you are prone to stick with this attitude and expect everyone to disprove your opinions, makes everything you say pretty meaningless.

so what's stopping you from putting the drive in yourself since it's possible in "the machines you care about" thought you were so smart, but you are bitching about something you could remedy yourself.

guess some people are just too cool these days :cool:

Well, I sent Apple feedback on this, but I'm not interested in putting one of these drives in myself. I rightly criticize Apple for not including this current technology as an option in the desktop machines, because even if they don't play BD movies on Macs, they still can be more useful than the pathetic "superdrive".

it was based off something i read... you've never been told false information in your life? As soon as i was proven wrong i apologized for the wrong info and admitted that it would fit... what's so high and mighty about that?

I never said you couldn't criticize them, but why do you buy their computers if you want bluray so bad?

-edit-
and since you really just want to argue... here chew on this:

Probably yes, Apple has been making Mac Pro upgrades less and less frequently, so I guess it will just be a self fulfilling prophecy.

Well actually, YOUR OPINION, is wrong, don't treat it as fact...

Original Mac Pro was released on August 7, 2006. Then Apple added a 3.0ghz quad core processor as an option on April 4, 2007... approximately 8 months. The next was released January 8, 2008, about 9 months later. After that Apple released an update on March 3, 2009; this was the longest interval between a refresh at 14 months. Then another refresh was released December 4, 2009... 9 months later. The next refresh occurred on August 9, 2010... 8 months later. We are now in May of 2011... 9 months later, awaiting a refresh.

So in fact all refreshes have occurred around the 9 month mark with the exception of one refresh. And they are not getting updated less frequently... it's been pretty consistent.
