Apple is bigger and much more than a single person. Although he is the founder, CEO, and leader of the company, Apple will function without Steve Jobs at some point.

If he comes back healthy in 6 months (I'm hoping for this), all the better for Apple but more importantly Steve Jobs.

Otherwise, the Apple board will ensure continuity at the CEO position. Time will tell how things pan out.

wow this goes to show you that even all the money in the world cant buy you good health.. sad

Get well Steve. You have brought us wonderful technology and the best computers in the world. Now get the best medical treatment and come back to us to bring us more wonderful products.

All the best to you and your family. Get well soon.

this forum shows how gullible many people are :(

Last week, when the "letter" was published, mostly everyone said something like: "See! I told you he was A-OK!, it was just a tommy flu; this will take care of all those rumours about his health."

Today: "Oh no! he's not better after all..."

I hope SJ gets better, he's an amazing person, but we'll never know the degree of his illness, will we?

I agree with your post, generally. I think we were indirectly told about how serious this problem was though. One day, a nutritional deficiency. One week later, a much more complex problem. Either someone was initially painting an unrealistic picture or there was a major communication breakdown between him and his physicians.

And why leave until June? Who ever puts a date on a recovery for some mysterious illness that has been plaguing him for over a year? Could it be that this is when the new iPhone products are supposed to come out? I hope this is not being spun that way.

Our prayers are with you and your family Steve. Whatever happen just remember that God is in control. You have made an enormous contribution to the world and we all thank you.

personally couldn't care how this effects AAPL or Apple itself, what matters is that Steve is unwell, potentially very unwell if you are to believe all the hype. AAPL is just stock and Apple is just a tech company, so I just hope that he returns to full health, or as close to it as possible.

Good luck Steve

This disclosure was handled poorly and has resulted in many assuming the situation is worse than first thought.

Apple has a succession plan in place. Steve is undoubtedly a premiere CEO but Apple can grow without him. As others have said, many of you make him out to be some sort of God.

I may come across as insensitive but I am not the one making hypotheticals to M. Dell falling sick and the market response.

Hope he recovers from whatever he has but life must go on with or without him.

I've been a mac user for three months now, using one of the new unibody macbooks, and I'm a great fan. I am looking forward to using macs for as long as they continue to be great. A lot of people have commented that Steve going will destroy the company. I believe however that though he has been a visionary leader and figurehead, there is a capable operations team below him, a more than competent design team under Jonny Ive, a great marketing team... And while people have said that we will lose the benefit of Steve's obsessive attention to detail, I think that this is a trait that will have leaked down to the lower levels of the company and will thus continue in the future. I don't exactly see Ive as the kind of guy who's going to let a shoddy product through to meet a deadline.

Just my humble thoughts...

I wish Steve the best of luck. I also think that it's time to think about either retiring or moving on a chairman position. This seems to be once of those situations where the mind may be more willing than the body is able. There will always be a place for his influence at the company, but now is the time for him to relax and spend time with his family.

As for the company, trust me, there is a contingency plan in place for something like this, either on the board's end or from Steve and the company's officers or both. They would have to be completely incompetent not to. The risks of a reoccurrence of or complications from cancer are too high. Personally, I believe Eric Schmidt's appointment to the board is part of that contingency plan in some capacity.

I hate to break the news

I have been suspecting that this is the case for quite some time. We recently had a family member pass away from pancreatic cancer and all the stuff that Mr. Jobs is going though mirror my aunts experience.

She was also one of the "fortunate" ones who have the operable form of pancreatic cancer. She passed away 2 years after her first operation. The fact is that when the pancreas does not work properly the body can not process food properly and store fat. Before my aunt lost her appetite for food she could eat 6000+ calories of food per day and live a sedentary lifestyle and still lose weight. She could eat ice cream all day and lose weight.

Mr. Jobs has much more money than my aunt did so maybe his doctors have found out a way to extend his life a little but without a working pancreas his passing will be soon.

This is a very sad reality as I have been following the career of Mr Jobs for years. My life has been greatly impacted by the products he as made and the movies he produced through Pixar. If he does pass within the next 6 months it will be too soon and a shame.

To read more about the potential issues that Mr. Jobs is facing anyone can find the info on wikipedia

To those that say Steve J lied .... if he did then he would be putting Apple in SERIOUS risk ... much more than just his current health state...

Its a publicly traded company .... the SEC could investigate stock manipulation, the shareholders could sue .... its serious stuff....

I think a lot of people are showing their true colours in the wake of this latest develoment .... some of the comments on this thread are pretty low blows

Best wishes to Steve, and may the next 4 months bring a full recovery.

(Apple doesn't need my best wishes--it has lots of talent still on board.)

And many thanks to the MacRumors posters who have access to Steve's private medical records. That explains how you know exactly what the doctors knew, and when they knew it. So we have to believe you when you say Steve has been lying ;)

As for stocks... they'll fall. They'll rise again. They'll go in circles. Apple will keep on going regardless.

Good luck, Steve! May God be with you & your family during this time.

God bless! :apple:

That stinks. The letter he wrote last week made it sound like he was going to be fine.

Does this mean Steve will not technically be the CEO until June?

This is seriously depressing news and very unexpected for me, in spite of the recent assurances from Apple. My thoughts are with Steve Jobs and his family. :(

Steve you are not going away so easily, you ve still got work to do and Apple needs you, we need you!
Fight this damn it, fight it with all your might.
We are all expecting you!
