Hope its not a reoccurrance of his cancer...

Hope SJ gets better very soon.

Pancreatic cancer is usually a grim diagnosis - 5-year survival rates are less than 5%. I would assume that SJ was receiving the best care in the world, but I would also assume that he was never actually "cured."

I have a feeling this may be bad... very bad.

Maybe he'll finally just retire and someone that's a little less creepy will take his place.

I do hope he gets better though.

I don`t imagine for a second Steve reads these things but still, all the best Steve.
Take care of yourself.

And it`s perfectly natural for people with money invested in AAPL to be interested/concerned by this announcement.

He remains one of the tech industries most charismatic and influential figures and, love or loathe him, the guy works like a trooper and has a love for his company and its products that shows through everything he does.

Get well Steve :apple:

I agree, I think the transplant just bought him more time but didn't cure him.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Steve. Looking forward to more insanely great and magical products.

Maybe we want SJ to get better and think it is a good thing he is taking a backseat position for a while?

Some of us also realize he will not run Apple forever.

His retirement will happen sooner than later.

Also, Tim Cook is a great leader.

Best wishes to Steve and his family. Here's hoping this is just a bump in the road and he's back in the saddle in no time.

Yes when you read about pancreatic cancer it certainly is frightening stuff.

Whilst I hope he is truly one of 5% for his own and his familys good (stuff the shareholders ;)) it doesn't look good.

Steve.. Get well soon.

Isn't the market closed today?

Why do you think they chose today?

That being said, after the panic sales, would be a great time to buy before iPad2 comes out. And the iPhone 5 later in the year.

Long-term, if Steve doesn't return, it is an issue for Apple. They need that visionary.

Hopefully he will recover, more for his sake and his family's than for our sakes.

First and foremost Steve said he's requesting a leave of absence which indicates that he believes he'll be returning at some point in the future to resume his day to day duties. His remark about The plans they have for 2011 certainly would indicate that he expects to be gone for much of the year.

IMO there is no reason to panic. Tim Cook proved during Steve's last leave of absence that he can handle the day to day operations perfectly well and Steve has said he'll be involved in any major strategic decisions so I don't see how Apple misses a beat this year. Any major product releases scheduled to occur this year (iPad 2, iPhone 5, OS X 10.7, Mac product refreshes, etc) are already in the pipeline and have been for some time.

Worst case scenario, if this is permanent, as long as Steve's around he'll be involved in major strategic decisions as he said he would be and there's going to come a time at some point in the future where he's not involved with the company at all. What's important is that he's developed a culture of innovation at the company and that it continues. It's not like Steve's being forced out and will have no say in Apple's future. Tim Cook is his hand picked successor.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:I'm happy to say but Apple isn't a one man company.

You really have NO idea.
Most companies tank soon after the original owner goes.
Why?
Because the original owner knows how it works within the world around it.
You can have a million man company, but if the lead is wrong, it goes down.

Apple already almost vanished in a puff of smoke back in the 90s.
Who brought it roaring back?
One of those other men in the company?
