Maybe it's an American thing, but for us Europeans, a message beginning simply with "Team,..." instead of something like "Dear Team,..." sounds rather, let's say, disrespectful. You'd only do this in the military.

To me, "Team" sounds very English, while "Liebe Mitarbeiter(innen)" would sound very German. :D

Just checked my email: One "Hi Team," and one "Team,". Someone is disrespecting me! :D

You really have NO idea.
Most companies tank soon after the original owner goes.
Why?
Because the original owner knows how it works within the world around it.
You can have a million man company, but if the lead is wrong, it goes down.

Apple already almost vanished in a puff of smoke back in the 90s.
Who brought it roaring back?
One of those other men in the company?

Yes but, It's not hard to imagine that ever since Steve Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003 he's been looking for his own successor.

I'll certainly be praying for him, his family & a speedy recovery. We must remember he is a human being just like the rest of us. The stock may or not suffer over the short & long term. Who knows? I am proud to have a few shares and I'm not worried. Let's think of him as a guy with a family eh?

As far as the "positive" ratings go, there's no real standard for when to hit that button. It could be because this is a big story or it could be because they think he needs to take a break and are glad to see him doing that. I doubt anyone clicked that link because they are happy about the situation.

he looks very very ill and weak.. And i too suspect this to be the end for him..
Apple will live on but it wont be the same they will loose a big part iof their charisma with steve

Jobs is a great guy! Hopefully this is not serious...

Great timing for this announcement tho! Think about it.. Market is closed today in the US, and if shares drop tomorrow morning, they will bounce back after the earnings call tomorrow afternoon which will most likely report a STELLAR earning.
Also, iPad 2 is due to be announced in the next few weeks, Verizon iPhone will definitely give Apple a BOOST in sales, iPhone 5 should be a fantastic new product (if Engadget is spot on with their report), most likely new Macbook Pro sometime this year, and who knows what else they have up their sleeve with the new data center in NC.
This is PERFECT timing for Jobs to focus on his health.. Apple if on a good course this year!

You obviously have no idea about Apple's history. They forced Steve out back then. So they weren't really following his suggestions at all. Now they know how Steve runs the company, and nobody is going to change course even after he's gone. It's a completely different situation.

WoW, I never really knew the history of Apple and Steve.

Do you think Steve will be able to attend ipad, ios, wwdc, media events?

3 words.

Sell. All. Stock.

When Steve is gonna push up daisies (no offense meant, I hope he lives to be a hundred) stock will plummet.

Maybe it's not what a lot of people want, but if Steve does give control of the company to someone else will we see a return to the 90's when Apple focussed on creative fields... rather than their current focus on iToys? As good as they are.

Sickened

I'm genuinely shocked and sickened by many posts in this thread.
What wonderful Christian thoughts - stock price first, a mans health and well being second.

I wish Steve the very best of health and all the privacy and respect he can get over the coming months and years.

As for Steve and Apple, I hope he gets better soon and if these are his last days then he should leave Apple for good and spend it with his family. I don't think it will affect Apple to much in the long run. Though admittedly they will take an initial hit. But in the end they have a great business model and eco system and they aren't going anywhere. IMO they were never going to be able to maintain the head start they have in the mobile device market anyway. The competition will keep getting tougher and better.

I hope Steve gets well soon.

Not for us.
Not for Apple.
But so Steve and his family can enjoy his twilight decades together.

Personally I think the importance of Jobs is overstated. Fair enough the guy's a genius and a true one of a kind, but it's not as if he's the one in the Labs building the products, he's the one that's overseeing the very top details. He's more the charisma of Apple, but a lot of consumers will buy an iPod, Mac, whatever and never know who Jobs is.

Still, I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

His legacy will live on, much much long than he will.

Why the positive votes on this story ?

The self-loathing haters ever lurk.

As much as I hate the Apple circlejerk that goes on in regards to their products

Thanks for the mature, intelligent insight.

shares were going to drop anyway, because they are inflated.

Keep thinking that. If anything, with $50 billion in the bank, the shares are still very undervalued. Their P/E is barely higher than the flatlined company Microsoft (no room left for significant growth) and is a fraction of Amazon's, even without all that cash factored in.

Sorry to say, but I'll be selling all shares at open and going short. I remember what happened last time Steve left Apple. Oh well, it was a good run while it lasted.

We'll see you back at $500. :p

Best wishes to Steve and his family. May he recover speedily. That said, Apple will continue on course. While Steve is certainly the propeller of progress at Apple, at times he's also an anchor. I've often wondered if the company could go even higher without his obsessive level of control sometimes dampening the possibilities. I guess we'll find out...someday.

The good news is Tim Cook is no Steve Ballmer. In a very, very positive way. :)

Hard news

It is hard for us that there will be no Steve on iPad2/iPhone5 keynotes.

For the last 4 years, it is like a big party for apple customers, yearly prompt upgrades, always in too good to be true quality, leaving competitors far behind trying like crazy to catch up.

If he can live longer retiring now, we have no reason to keep him around, he already gave us his best years. Best wishes to Steve and his family!
