I bought my iPhone 4 on launch day last summer and my current date for full upgrade eligibility is 6/24/2011.
Eligibility date depends on a lot of factors. How long you've been a customer and how much your plan is for two. Ex. I pre-ordered my iP4 after being off contract for years and am not eligible again till 02/18/2012.

I can't remember Apple ever telling you what was being introduced at an event in a press release.

It sold out. I think they're more concerned about drumming up media coverage—it's easy for the media to talk about a new device (a single point of focus)—but new software (as good as it is) is decidedly less appealing to viewers/visitors.

So iCloud.com essentially confirmed as Apple's.

What will the 'one more thing' be if all this is pre-announced?

I think they oddly pre-announced like this because they don't want expectations of a new iPhone! That simple. Preemptive damage control for their stock.

I really hope Apple do a live video broadcast of this!

Same here! I figured they would do it from that first time on but then they stopped again :(

You must have a large monthly bill or something? I also bought one on launch day but am not eligible until November, which is when the average person who bought one on launch day should be.

I've been to every WWDC since they began. I will be at this one, but instead of some enthusiastic anticipation and excitement, I've seen too much waffling from Apple in various areas, in recent times, so my demeanor will be ho hum, prove it to me Apple.

Clinging desperately to the $99 retail price of MobileMe is one, given it's spotty performance as of late. Yes I like it, and no I don't (due to it's reliability issues and high price). Yet a dyed in the wool Apple guy I use it. Boy am I crazy.

Anyway I'd like to think there will be good things, and I'm inclined to think just possibly there may be a few, but Magical and Revolutionary? I don't think so.

You can only pull the David Copperfield routine so many times, then the experienced amongst us get really jaded, really fast.

Unless lightning strikes, the lack of an iPhone announcement is a really wet, cold blanket to cover everyone with. Surely one that will cause many to go running to Android. An unacceptable loss that Apple is fully responsible for.

The computer users will see Windows 8 out of the corner of their eye sometime soon, and may decide that they too dislike the toy like aspects of the kitty called Lion.

Oh Apple... what have you done?

QFT

And to chime in you should add that Chromebooks are about to go in the wild in a few weeks (June 15 they are available if I'm to trust Google) - so Apple has to either wow the crowd or it's time to buy those stock put options. :D

Correct, I have a large bill. I was simply using myself as an example of someone who will be upgrade eligible in June; it is possible.

iOS5 last item on the agenda before obligatory 'one more thing'

Of course with iOS5 you have to have the...... iPhone 5.

I'd put money on it.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; zh-cn) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

And there's one more thing... The iPhone 5.

You're right because both are due some time in Fall, only it's gonna be called iPhone 4S.

Yeah a slightly warmed over 4... bleh

There is no flippin way I will buy another Antennagate phone.

Even if the reception is improved it still reminds me of the iP4.

Like something ugly, the look of the four will always remind me of Antennagate.

Come On Apple, it's time to get with the program, give us a nice 4.0" display, a fresh style, with aluminum or anything but glass.

You CAN do it... I know you can.

Apple needs to regain their confidence, and not cling to the 4's styling.

They are milking it.

Which would wipe out the next three months of iPhone sales.

Perhaps that would motivate Apple to give the users what they want. The list is long based on what I've read in several posts here.

I seriously doubt this will be "the phone". It's merely a stop gap phone, to buy Apple time.

But why give three months notice of it's release date and watch iPhone 4 sales grind to a halt.

The only time Apple announce anything that far in advance is when it's a completely new product like the first iPhone or first iPad.

New phone cycle and carrier contracts out of Sync

Apple on a one year new phone cycle and the carriers offering 18 or 24 month contracts is nonsensical. If Apple were to offer a new phone tomorrow, the majority of people who bought the iPhone 4 12 months ago will still have 6 or 12 months to go on their contracts and will be locked out of buying the new model. There is only one way out of that anomoly...

I think there will be an iPhone 4S announced and it will look exactly like the iPhone 4 but get a performance boost. That is not going to get the headlines though, what is, will be the price reduction for people still under contract. And the price reduction will be the same as paying off your iPhone 4 contract 6 months early.

Thus the market will not be undermined by contract lag as with previous new iPhones.

Anyway, I don't care about them mentionning the new iPhone, because the real deal is software and iOS 5 will probably be the first "major" update to iOS (or iPhoneOS). iPhone need an OS with widgets. iPad need some kind of "file system" (Finder App ?) and some User Switching since the nature of the thing make it way more likely to have multiple users using it.

Don't fret!

Typical! I'm on holiday in France in the middle of no where with no means of communication other than a mobile phone (that's just a phone and not a PDA) with the wife a baby daughter! Can I survive!?

Well, yes. I'll enjoy: my daughters 1st birthday; my daughters 1st holiday; quality time with my family.

I'm sure that when I get back Lion will still be here, and I can be rest assured that I've had a great time "off-line" :)

Bon vacance tout la monde!

In the past, Apple streamed their Keynotes live and it was always available to view on the iPhone too. I hope you have that, at least. :)

I bet that the iCloud will be described as Mobile Me on steroids. Rather than uploading a file at a time, (mobile me is way too time consuming), we will probably be able to drag and drop entire files into our cloud and have full functioning sharing ability.

Apple gives the users what Apple wants. They don't care what their customers want because they know they will buy anything that Apple makes. Like being led around with a ring through your nose.
