I really have been highly anticipating Lion. I am excited to see it in action and then finally get my hands on it!

Oh please. Of course it will only be for Apple devices, Apple is in this to move hardware. As for deal killers, stop projecting tech geeks wants/needs to that of the general buying population. Lastly, where is this evidence that iPhone users have moved to Android?

As for features of the service, how about we wait until Monday to compare?

If they charge money for it (knowing Apple) it is DOA. No if and and buts about it. As for Apple fans who have moved on to Android phone just look around these boards you have a far number who have made the switch.
iCloud killing part is it ONLY works on apple devices. That is a huge deal killer.

Amazon Cloud and Google music work on everything.
Works only with the bloated program known is iTunes is another issue. Again can not listen to it if you are at a computer that you are not allowed to install software on (aka work) but a service like Amazon and Google both you can play threw the web.

So do I have to wait to monday to know that it is really going to lag and have issue. No I do not. I know it will be only on Apple devices and require iTunes. That is an issue.

I've been to every WWDC since they began. I will be at this one, but instead of some enthusiastic anticipation and excitement, I've seen too much waffling from Apple in various areas, in recent times, so my demeanor will be ho hum, prove it to me Apple.

Clinging desperately to the $99 retail price of MobileMe is one, given it's spotty performance as of late. Yes I like it, and no I don't (due to it's reliability issues and high price). Yet a dyed in the wool Apple guy I use it. Boy am I crazy.

Anyway I'd like to think there will be good things, and I'm inclined to think just possibly there may be a few, but Magical and Revolutionary? I don't think so.

You can only pull the David Copperfield routine so many times, then the experienced amongst us get really jaded, really fast.

Unless lightning strikes, the lack of an iPhone announcement is a really wet, cold blanket to cover everyone with. Surely one that will cause many to go running to Android. An unacceptable loss that Apple is fully responsible for.

The computer users will see Windows 8 out of the corner of their eye sometime soon, and may decide that they too dislike the toy like aspects of the kitty called Lion.

Oh Apple... what have you done?

Anyone catch that curve ball that Steve Jobs just threw? This is very unlike Apple, expect some big and major unexpected surprises this time around. Apple have been feeding the media disinformation for months, ever since the iPhone debacle.

Or, perhaps, just like in politics Apple is trying to lower expectation in order to avoid major disappointment? If people come to WWDC expecting a lot and instead get a promise of new notification system in iOS in the near future they mat be very disappointed and the press might not take it kindly. On the other hand, if the expectations are low - the simply will not be much press at all.

Gotta admit, i'm pretty disappointed with the rumor that there won't be an iPhone hardware upgrade at this year's WWDC.
I agree, a lot of people will end their phone's contracts and will move onto Android or Windows Phone 7.
Here's hoping the September release of the iPhone 5 is well worth it.

But Mac users going for Windows 8? I highly doubt that. If anything i'm going to bootcamp my MacBook Pro with Windows 8, for Windows-only programs. But Mac OS X is just too powerful and by far the most advanced OS, for current users to switch to Windows.
Actually, with the immense sales of the iPad and the iPhone, more and more people will switch to Mac. That's how i made my switch after enjoying the iPhone, and i haven't looked back since.
The fact that Lion will be integrating iPad-like features will greatly appeal to current iDevice owners. The consumers will feel like they already know how to use a Mac that way. I think it's a great ideal, and Lion will be very successful.

But for Monday's evening news? A newspaper? It's much splashier to headline with "Apple Unveils New iPhone 5" than "Apple Releases Annual Software Update, As Expected".

Either announcement would still be further down the page to an announcement that Justin Beiber has a new tattoo on his a$$.

I just don't understand the huge appeal of iCloud for music... I have all my music in my pocket and I don't need an Internet connection to listen to it...
Could someone explain why I would need a service like this for music?

Now if apple offered a Netflix type service where I could pay one monthly fee and watch whatever I wanted... :)

I just bought an iOS developer license but it says that the stimated date of shipping is 6-June, it's because something is going to change in the Keynote for developers?

Imagine you have a Mac at home, a PC at Work, an iPhone at the street and an iPad for the holidays, and maybe you share your music with some relatives iPod.-

Everytime you get a new song you have to synchronize every single computer/gadget...

Perhaps this service is not for me. I don't buy music all that much to pay for not having to sync for 5 minutes every month or so...

Consider my CDs ripping (been collecting CD music since that mid 1980's) and up to at 60GB+ and I am still not done encoding all my old CDs.

Plus my older friend had so may vinyl records he still has gotten to encoding half of them. He will probably need terabytes of space, if he gets to all his records, not counting his CDs.

I don't get the whole thinking that there are going to be huge numbers of people switching to an entirely different platform just because they won't be able to immediately upgrade their iPhone when eligible. It's not like you lose your ability to upgrade at a discount if you don't do it right away, and the average iPhone user will see no reason to learn an entirely new way of doing things just so they can upgrade to some other new phone ASAP.

I completely disagree. It's sad to say, but a lot of people, and I know a few, bought their iPhones to simply have the latest and greatest shiny new phone and those people are the ones that will want a newer and shinier phone immediatley at the end of their contract, regardless of the manufacturer.

This is where I believe apple will lose quite a lot of customers.

But the thing is that iPhone users who really need the latest and greatest already have an iPhone 4 and therefore are not eligible for a new one until the fall at the earliest anyway (depending on how AT&T relaxes the rules this time). The only people who will be 100% eligible for an upgrade by July are 3GS owners who by definition do not need the latest and greatest and would probably be just as well served by an iPhone 4 at that point if they can't wait.

The average iPhone user will just go to the store when they are eligible and say give me the newest iPhone, not ask to see the dozens of random other Android and Windows phone models and have to somehow figure out which one is any good.

Not everyone is on a two year contract and the USA is not the only place where people own iPhones.

That seems to confirm the postponement of this year's iPhone until the Autumn; with Lion, iOS 5 and iCloud to talk about, there's more than enough for a keynote.

I fail to see how that confirms anything .... First, it is not a hardware conference, Second, there is always the option for a 'one more thing'

I also assume based on (more or less baseless rumors) that there is a good change that it will be pushed to autumn, but thats fine

Thunderbolt Airs

Not a hardware conferences - it's all about software.

And my guess is that the Thunderbolt Air will be available this or next week (again, based on baseless rumors)

New Mac Minis please!

Did I mention before that this is a developers (read software) conference and no main focus on hardware (possible, but not to be expected)

Could be a refresh of the MacAirs
They have done Mac refreshes at WWDC before,

They keynote usually gos for around a hour, hour and a half.

I would not be that surprised if they did show of some new hardware.
WWDC is about building new and fun apps, in order to do that, you need softwear and hardware.

Expect the unexpected with Apple,

I agree. Just because a contract is over does not mean that people will get into a new one right away. I also don't think someone who invested in any apps for the iPhone will ditch all their old stuff and go out to learn a whole new platform.

People who need the latest and greatest are also probably power users who more likely than not did invest some money over their 2 year contract into apps. Plus, you typically are eligible for an upgrade several months before your contract is over, so those people who MUST upgrade probably already did so.

People are talking as if your phone ceases to work as soon as the contract is over or that ordinary people feel like they must renew a contract versus continue month to month. Most people don't upgrade their phones until they see something they really want or their phone breaks. So if their contract is up in mid June, it might not be until the fall when they actually upgrade if at all. Especially with gas being high and expected to go higher this summer, some people may choose to drive over replacing a phone that ain't broke.

It really annoys me when people make the assumption that on the day after the contract is over (which gives someone a sense of freedom) a phone owner will waltz into a store to get back on another contract, even if it means ditching their preferred platform and learning how to use their phone all over again.

I think the more likely scenario is going to be people holding out for the next iPhone in August or September, or if they arent savvy they'll just get the iPhone 4 (since 3GS are 99% of expiring iPhones this summer).

I bought my iPhone 4 on launch day last summer and my current date for full upgrade eligibility is 6/24/2011.

Allot of people would buy a new iPhone 4. But most will think "wtf am I buying something a year old when that galaxy s ii over there is newer and the same price." Its a cellphone not a full os so people are alot more open to switching.

My HTC Inspire 4G was $100 cheaper for the same processor speed and more RAM. That was the clincher for me. Besides, I really at the time wasn't willing to part with $199.

Very, very true.

If apple do not release a new iPhone soon, then they will lose lot of customers to other manufacturers. Simple as that.

I love my iPhone so much that no other phone compares, however a lot of people could and will easily jump ship to the latest android and windows phones if Apple does not provide a new alternative.

Plus anyone with any brains would not buy a year old iPhone on a new contract at top price when their current contract ends because it could easily be made outdated in a matter of weeks when the new fifth generation iPhone is launched..

Didn't think so.
