Why people keep on posting this link is beyond me...

It just proves that whole HTML5 thing is crap!

I run MBP c2d 2.4 with 8600M + 10.5.8 + latest Safari...

THIS PAGE GIVES SPINNING BEACH BALL ON SAFARI AND IT DOESNT WORK!

I mean... LOL :D

Am I the only one in this forums that cant run that video!?!?!

For what its worth I just tried it on a 24 inch iMac 2.93 Ghz with 10.5.8 and latest safari and it worked great. No beach ball action.

I checked my calendar and it is 2010.

Anuba is posting again today so I'm sure they can fill you in the improvements for Flash 10.1. (Even under OS X) In addition Flash supports hardware based acceleration on Broadcom HD chips. Get h.264 and Flash for a few dollars even on whatever crippled IGP you use.

I'd like to welcome you and Apple to 2010. I've enjoyed the virtues of GPU power outside of OS X far more often.

You are funny.

He's so conceited, I really hope the newspapers keep using flash, just to spite him. Never-mind I also disagree with his whole philosophy of trying to tell other companies what's in their best interests.

Yeah, that'd be real smart. Do the opposite of what Steve wants just to "spite" him.. while ruining your industries last chance at surviving. It's a good thing you don't run any companies.

Hahahahahahahaha!

By the way, did Steve or any one of you wonder, why Flash crashes Safari on the Mac and it never crashes Firefox!?!?!

Well I have firefox browser crashes on flash intensive sites more often than not on Windows. Especially when my kids are on Playhouse Disney or Nick Jr. with a few tabs open per the site. And yes my flash is updated.

...and now a quote from Rodney King:

"People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along? Can we get along? Can we stop making it, making it horrible for the older people and the kids?...It’s just not right. It’s not right. It’s not, it’s not going to change anything. We’ll, we’ll get our justice....Please, we can get along here. We all can get along. I mean, we’re all stuck here for a while. Let’s try to work it out. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to work it out"

Youtube.

Actually, the mere existence of HTML5 and the talk surrounding it would imply that people are adopting it, would it not?

Huh??I was responding to someone who said developers and customers were leaving Apple(I thought)

I use broadband connection, all web content loads fine, Mac works perfectly and browser never crashes... That is until I get to that page... Beach spinning ball of Safari death and only way to cure it is to force quit unless it dies on its own...

Perhaps I need to upgrade to 10.6 in order to enjoy HTML5 video!?!?!

:D

Don't know, but that page loads totally fine for me. No lag at all.

Hahahahahahahaha!

I can imagine old Steve foaming on his mouth talking non-sense and general ******** while at the same time, in the real world, things like this are happening:

FLASH ON NEXUS ONE! --- > http://theflashblog.com/?p=1781

Steve go retire for the sake of all of us please!

:D

EDIT:

By the way, did Steve or any one of you wonder, why Flash crashes Safari on the Mac and it never crashes Firefox!?!?!

LOL!

Perhaps Steve should be fixing Safari instead of talking poo...

Safari and Mail are two bug ridden heavens. Look who is talking! It is over 5 years and Safari is still buggy. These two outstanding applications make me to reboot my iPhone every day.

lol haha, I agree :p, Core 2 Duo is OLD! was first introduced in 2006.. I'm seriously annoyed at Apple for not supporting flash.. Its still relevant, I heard Apple is making way for HTML5, but thats not gonna happen for a while I don't think, infact its probably not going to be in use right away, people will make the transition slowly.. Apple should support flash for now... =/ And again it irritates me if we are talking about technology why the hell is apple still using Core 2 Duos.. Why is apple still using Direct X 10 video cards.. and why isn't apple using triple channel memory.. Not to mention the new SATA & USB 3.0..

Correction. Apple does support Flash just not on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. The reason behind that is battery life.

I think Steve is absolutely correct. But we're in a transitionary period right now and those always pose a problem. We still need flash at the moment and will continue to do so for a few years. But from here on out we can expect almost every new site to tackle the question of whether they should use flash or not. And whenever there is an alternate way, it will be used.

One small, but significant example in my own case: A year or so ago I would almost always use Slideshowpro (a nice flash based image slideshow viewer). But now there are so many great jquery based slideshow plugins that I almost always use those instead.

I don't know if flash will die but it will certainly go down from here unless Adobe figures out a way to make it much more relevent again.

That's ludicrous. You're comparing apples to oranges.
Yes, but at least they're both round fruits. My point was that Steve was comparing apples to hubcaps. Retiring the technologies he used as examples (floppies, 9-pin serial/25-pin parallel/SCSI etc) had obvious advantages for manufacturers and consumers. Where is that advantage in retiring Flash? It's not going to make your laptop lighter, thinner or cheaper. It's a widespread format and it's working. Things like that are extremely difficult to get rid of.
There are vastly superior alternatives to MP3 (AAC, OGG), they offer better sound quality and none of the licensing issues with MP3. And yet MP3 rules supreme. It has become to audio formats what Kleenex is to tissue paper, a genericized trademark.

The issue is not about intensive content, it's about Flash choking the system and screwing the battery disproportionately to the complexity of the content.
Yes, Adobe (or rather, Macromedia) has been lazy. But the new 10.1 player is the first Flash version to use GPU accelaration. It increases rendering speed by 87% over the previous version and reduces memory consumtion by 55%.

In order for HTML5 to take over, someone has to develop proper authoring tools first. Flash animators aren't going to let go of Flash Professional (soon at version 10) in favor of some crappy 0.9beta of whatever the predominant HTML5 authoring tool will be. These rickety HTML5 demos are proof of concept, nothing more.

If you are going to imagine Steve Jobs talking nonsense, make sure you aren't doing exactly that. Flash can crash Firefox very well.

Exactly. I'm in the process of stopping use of Firefox on the Mac because it crashes so much on me. Flash causes it to explode in spectacular fashion.

Yeap. I disagree with a lot Steve has to say, but he's right on the money on this one. Flash is extremely slow and inefficient. I've been hoping the internet would dump it for years.

if jobs is getting this vocal about flash I bet it will be a dead tech in a year or two. I am glad, even though my main site is flash it does always cause lagging issues, crashes and wish there was some better alternatives out there for rich media.

funny .. I kind got the exact opposite impression. If he needs to get that vocal .. chances are people are not see his point to much.

Jeez .. I couldn't care less about flash .. but hell do I hope Adobe comes out strong out of this fight. This SJ and his arrogance is driving me away from Apple and Mac .. I think OS X is a nice system, but the biggest flaw in my mind is that I, as a user, am often left with Apples way or the highway (or hacking). And with iPhone OS they have taken it even a step further .. my next phone is gonna be an Android .. unless Apples comes true with its "aggressive strategy" and "A+" update ..

I agree with jobs wholeheartedly, in theory. But in reality, you cannot sell an Internet-centric device like the ipad, billed as the best internet experience you've ever had, and not have flash. Too many really popular sites use it heavily. I wish it weren't so, but html5 is not prevalent enough yet to no have flash on a device primarily being sold as an Internet portal.

No one except Steve eh? :D

Well, TBH, people can say what they want, but there's no denying that Steve Jobs has greatly helped to move the tech industry forward and if wasn't for Apple's innovations a lot of the world of tech would still be the quality of what we had in the late 90's.

I'll be more than happy to see Flash disappear. It never fails that when my CPU load ramps up and I check Activity Monitor to find the culprit, it's always some Safari window running a rogue Flash animation.

Never liked Flash-- I used to hate it because it made stuff that should be static move and bounce like The Great Cornholio. I'm sure whatever replaces it will do the same, but hopefully without requiring two 2GHz processors to do it.

...Flash is not just video, Its incredibly rich interactive web media that cannot be replaced with html5...

Sure it can, it just requires developers to start over. BTW, the description "incredibly rich interactive web media" more aptly applies to HTML5, as I have not seen any flash-based content that fits that description for several years.

I find it kind of embarrasing now that Apple pushes the whole "it just works" slogan......

Oh wait.....disney.com / farmville / nick jr / nytimes etc etc....

"it doesn't work"

Too bad that appears to be Adobe's attitude as well. Its going to end up biting them pretty hard.
have you noticed that most of these "support-flash" discussion groups are on adobe's website? i know people like to think mac users are drinking the kool-aide but come on...

if adobe thinks that flash runs just fine on os x, all they have to do is read HALF of the comments in this thread alone.

By the way, did Steve or any one of you wonder, why Flash crashes Safari on the Mac and it never crashes Firefox!?!?!

LOL!

Perhaps Steve should be fixing Safari instead of talking poo...

What have you been smoking?

FLash crashes on Firefox, and Chrome all the time on me...at least a few times everyday
