Op: I'm not gonna say much here. Saying Steve Jobs was right just throws all your creditability out the window. What many people here do not understand is that he was NOT a good man. He denied his daughter, treating his employees like crap, and even his first wife. I mean come on, this was the same man that told millions of iPhone 4 users that they were holding the device wrong. Keep in mind here, he also was against a smaller ipad, which has been quite successful.

SO NO, STEVE WAS NOT RIGHT! The iPhone 6/6+ will be perfect for many people. If not, they always have the 4S, and 5S to choose from.

You can say steve was right, and maybe he was.

But the fact that competitors were eroding apples hold on the smartphone market with their large screen phones, and the idea that the increased screen size iphones have seen record setting demand....just demonstrated that apple made the right choice.

It doesn't matter if steve was right or wrong, consumer demand/want is what determines the market. Period. It's the basis of a free market. Whatever the reason, the consumer wanted it, so the consumer got it.

I love the bigger screen...I now have zero reason to randomly try out android phones...only to come back to the iphone. The screen was all that was missing.

The thing is Steve wasn't wrong, but he also wasn't right. When he made his statements and created his phone people were using phones and consuming content much differently then we do now.

With the majority of communication being non phone call, people want to have a phone that does things not related to calling someone on a phone. The phone aspect is like the 5th thing on the list of things we want it to do correctly.

We are more concerned with watching TV shows and movies, emailing, texting, checking social media and browsing the web then we are actually using a phone, as a phone..... that is why a slightly bigger device is more ideal.

Was going to post and say exactly this. The reality is that people use their phones very differently than they did just a few years ago.

As for the size, well I think the 6 remains very usable you just need to adjust your grip slightly from what you've been used to and perhaps work the reachability gesture into your muscle memory.

I've had every iPhone since the 3G. I honestly think the 6 is the most beautiful of them all and the nicest to hold. The 3G was nice to hold except for the plastic. When they went to the brick design on the 4 that was definitely more awkward even if it was pretty, and the 5 was beautiful but the chamfer was uncomfortable and dinged way too easily. The 6 is the closest thing we've had to a modern first gen iPhone which most people loved the design. There is no Android phone that feels as premium as this; the fit and finish and seamless feel is stunning.

I don't understand the argument seeing as you can still buy a 5S that seems to have everything you want?
The differences between the 5S and the 6 are not many aside from the design and size differences (and the payment thing, but still don't consider that an immense upgrade)

You love the size of the 5S, you love the design of the 5S, so then get the 5S.
If they kept the same size and design and released it with the same upgrades that the 6 has, people would be upset because they'd consider it a 5S2.

What they should have done is still offered a phone that works well for one handed use according to Steve's guidelines because fact of the matter is phones are supposed to be pocketable devices that can quickly and easily be accessed with one hand while on the go, doing other tasks, etc.

If Apple wanted to offer a larger phone for the Android phablet loving crowd then so be it but it was a dumb move to offer TWO larger phones. Now consumers are faced with the option of big or bigger, dumb or dumber.

Both devices are awkward to use one handed. If I had this to do all over again and I had to upgrade I would have gone with the 6 plus because if you're going to have to struggle with an awkwardly sized "phone" then you might as well get the full, oversized, large screen, awkward experience.

To you and those that keep bringing up the 5S as an option. The 5S does not offer Apple Pay which will be huge and is a very important/crucial feature for myself and many others that have ever had their credit card data stolen.

And for those people claiming the 6 is the right size for one handed use, you are wrong. I'll provide you with this very nice and detailed mock up Mashable did on one handed use. Take note of the "thumb zone" image.

Think LG G3 and it's monstrous QHD display. That was what it was like back then. Of course, things have gotten a lot better with some of the recent Samsung phones.

Yes, I understand. But, my iPhone 6 plus battery is better than any phone I have ever used. That includes 4 different iPhone models and a few Androids. The larger battery makes up for the larger screen and more.

No physical product can be everything to everyone. Even software has a hard time achieving this. So every design decision is a compromise. And every compromise is a NO to some portion of your customers. And every NO is an opening for your competitors to say YES and take those sales.

The 3.5" screen was a no to every request for 5". The taller 4" was a doubling down on no, but with a 'how about this tweak' reply. And since each screen change is a 2 year investment/risk, it's taken that long to abandon the double down and say yes to 'go big'.

What they've done right this time is created two options at the same time. It doesn't make sense to have a 4" 6 with so many 5s parts on the shelf, but they can reintroduce the smaller size and offer 3 sizes of the 7. Then they will truly have enough yes for most customers.

The one remaining trap is that bigger has to cost more (technically, smaller has to cost less) and higher cost has to have more features. So customers who want smaller have to accept less, have to take no for an answer with things like optical image stabilization. If they can take a page from the iPads, they will let themselves do a mini flagship 7 and say yes to everyone.

Not going to influence an argument here, but I don't get the logic of "well this one is slightly awkward to hold so i might as well go full out and get the most awkward one because why not?"

that's like saying you don't want to buy a pickup truck because it's too big, so you might as well go out and buy a semi-truck to get the full giant awkward experience.

And saying people are wrong when it's purely based on opinions is wrong to do. I am not saying you are wrong, but in my opinion, I do not agree with your opinion. You are right to yourself, but not right in general. I think the 6 is perfect size for one hand, and I'm going 6+ and don't think that's all too awkward either. I have big hands, though. Imagine that. Different sized hands. :)

For me, replacing a 5 is enough of an improvement to make an effort to adjust to the larger screen.

However, after a few days of using the 6, if I had the 5s, I would not upgrade.

I'm absolutely hating the iPhone 6 I got yesterday for reasons which I'll outline below.

1. The phone is too big and awkward to use one handed.
Apple instead should have stuck with one size that was the same as the 5S or only very slightly larger and then also offered a large phone for the Android phablet fans, instead Apple offered us two phones, neither of which are practical to use one handed.

2. The design looks and feels like a Samsung phone using Apple materials.
The 5 and 5S are gorgeous devices that looked like nothing else at the time. The device even today looks like a work of art. These new designs are super generic and are nearly indistinguishable from many Samsung and Android phones.

3. The ugly antenna bands on the back are a huge step down from the 5/5S.
Was the same intern that designed the iOS7 icons responsible for the back of these devices?

4. The phones feel like slippery, rounded plastic devices in the hand.
These phones have no grip to them whatsoever and will be dropped more often than the 5 and 5S I'm sure.

This phone really feels like a product of a company that feels very threatened by Samsung and is being reactionary instead of revolutionary. Nothing about the 6 or 6 plus feels or looks new or different. The iPhone now looks like a generic Android phone and has completely thrown out most of what Steve worked so hard to establish with his company and devices. I'm a long time Apple fanatic and am extremely disappointed in this device, so much so that I'm considering returning it and going back to 5S until the next iPhone design or switching to Android. Even iOS 8 feels like a total reactionary response to Android. We now have Swype and other third party keyboards that consume resources, drain battery life and can crash etc.

Not all is terrible, I do like the ability to reply to a Message without leaving the app I'm in. That's the best feature so far of the new phones and iOS8, I'm sure Apple Pay will be another killer feature for the new phones but design wise this is a new Apple and it's a Apple that I don't like. This is a sad day indeed for fellow Jobsians. This is NOT a design Steve would have green lighted.

:( :apple: :(

Glad you got that off your chest.

You do realize the iPhone 6 & 6+ were Steve Jobs' last projects before he died, don't you? His views on the ideal mobile platform were modified from his original train of thought.

Judging by the unparalleled demand for any phone in history, yes.

Steve WAS right!

The android does not have Apple pay! Or smart phones that are the size of an iPhone 5. so you're kind of stuck so just be happy with the iPhone 6 and try not to complain for much.

You've just realized the apple way. Drive sales through forced (yes, forced) software upgrades that cripple legacy hardware. They should stop this practice. They don't want to create fragmentation, but it is there.

How is it forced? My ipad 2 is on iOS 6 and will stay there until it dies. To avoid upgrading, all I had to do was click "cancel" and check "do not ask me again" when the iOS 7 upgrade option came up - and the same again one year later for iOS 8. Not burdensome, and definitely not forced on me.

----------

and the idea that the increased screen size iphones have seen record setting demand....just demonstrated that apple made the right choice.

The iPhone has seen record setting demand every single year, regardless of what the critics think. If the options were 4" and 5.5", I have no doubt there would be record setting demand. If there were 4", 4.7", and 5.5" options, there would be record setting demand. And if there was only a 4" option like last year, there would probably be record setting demand.

Apple may or may not have gotten it "right," whatever that means (maximum sales? Most number of people completely satisfied? Most profit?), but they would have sold gobs of iphone 6's regardless, so I don't think that proves much.

I guess the next year will determine it then. If Samsung (primarily), and others, see a drop off and apple see a gain or a slower decrease... Then most likely it demonstrates apple made the right decision.

If Apple hasn't increased the size... I wouldn't have stayed an iPhone user. It may just be my opinion. Who knows what the vast majority of people think. The next year will be telling.

If the iPhone 6 was still 4" or near it.. I'd be typing this on my Galaxy S5 instead of the 6 Plus I bought Friday. I left iOS for 5" or higher screens.

1 inch makes all the difference. Ask your girl.

Steve doesn't run the company anymore and the advantage of that is the new management is much more open to following what the market is demanding.

I can promise if Apple would have introduced only a 4" iPhone 6 instead of the larger sizes it would have been the beginning of the end.

If you need a little phone so bad just get a 5C or 5S and forget about the larger phones. If you hate a larger screen instead of complaining just don't buy one. Now I have a feeling most of the complainers will eventually get over it and get an iPhone 6.

Jobs has been dead for almost 3 years. At what point should Apple start paying attention to what is going on NOW instead of being stuck with the ideals of a man who is no longer here to observe the current marketplace?

Getting it right for Apple means having the most satisfied customer base as Steve used to point out quite often. The Mac platform is far from the best selling but it does have the highest user satisfaction. What has made Apple has been a focus on user experience and satisfaction. Mark my words, both will drop after the iPhone 6.

The usability and user experience of these phones is much lower than any other iOS device. I had the unfortunate pleasure of suffering through using a Samsung Galaxy Nexus in 2010 and this iPhone 6 feels remarkably similar, it feels like an imitation of that device in fact.

Apple has the rabid following they do because of Steves perfectionism and attention to detail and user experience. Once Apple loses that they'll be competing with Samsung and other Android device manufacturers, releasing new devices constantly to little fanfare.

Mark my words.

Plenty of bad user experiences occurred on Steve Jobs' watch. Such as:

- MobileMe
- The first iPod Nano scratching all to hell
- The first MacBook Air (ugh)
- iPhone 4's antenna issues
- Lisa
- Ping

This revisionist history is becoming silly.

I think jony ive lacks a sense of ergonomics. Since he was let out the pen Apple products have become more and more uncomfortable in ergonomics. My MacBook pro retina has the sharpest edge right where your palm falls when using it as a laptop. It is pretty uncomfortable after awhile. Look at how needlessly thin the New iMacs are. Now the iPhone 6 is WAY too thin. Ive has sacrificed not only battery life for his anorexia but he has totally thrown away any ability to hold the iPhone in a comfortable way.
Please stop making phones thinner Jony, especially if you then make them wider and taller. You should read about magic ratios and in the meantime, go see a psychotherapist about your product anorexia.

i think apple is growth big and bigger now , here why .........

1. apple retailer store keep open

2. CEO keep hiring

3. iphone keep selling hight level

4. more ......

i think cook is good in business , he will make company stay last long ,,,

Code:
if an iphone ugly but business man good , then company still alive
if an iphone beautiful but business man no good , then bankrupc
that what my opinion ,

And I ask you: what is the point in having business whose interest are only in what is the marketable and profitable if it has a stash of over 100 billion dollars and no plan our dreams of how to spend it? Talk about futile enterprise. Apple has become a black hole of wealth.. a hoarder, a scrooge mcduck. Totally pointless. Apple used to be about making technology to color people's lives or with idealism about how tech was going to make things cooler and change the world for the better. This has all gone out the window now with its mindless focus on profit. Sad but not unexpected. Jobs was a rare humanist with an entrepreneur spirit.

I think it's often forgotten that Jobs left the company in Cook's hands because he trusted him. If people are still going to worship at the altar of Jobs, then they also have to trust that Steve made the correct decision in who he turned the company over to. It's not unreasonable to give Cook time to show what kind of leader he will ultimately be - one that's all about piling up the gold, or one that has a unique vision. I imagine that it's hard to step right in and reshape everything right after the loss of an iconic leader like Jobs.

well I can't agree 100% with you but the design does looking like a typical android flat rounded design and the antenna lines are horrible. The 5/5s had the best design in my opinion... it's honestly like a step back with the 6 design. Its not horrible but it would have be nice if they left the 5s corners and edges. The edges made for a better grip. The 6 is slippery because its rounded edges.

I do love my 6, just could of been design better.
