My wife an iPhone snob hates her new 6 for the size factor alone. Too big for her, so it's going back and she's keeping her 5.

Thank goodness I did not sell hers yet, almost did.

To each there open, but OP is not alone.

I like my 6 and I agree with some of the OP's complaints, and I love Apple products. It will take a lot to cause me to make a switch.

I Cant help but to chuckle about how many people here and elsewhere get so defensive if anyone has the slightest complaint about an Apple device. Some of you take it so personally. It's either you marvel at their product in complete awe and total adoration, or you are a flaming, hating troll. Period. No middle ground.

It's a mechanical device made by human beings. Its not perfect. It will never be perfect, and that's ok. Pointing out flaws or disappointment in the device is not necessarily an insult to the integrity of your personal choices.

I'm absolutely hating the iPhone 6 I got yesterday for reasons which I'll outline below.

1. The phone is too big and awkward to use one handed.
Apple instead should have stuck with one size that was the same as the 5S or only very slightly larger and then also offered a large phone for the Android phablet fans, instead Apple offered us two phones, neither of which are practical to use one handed.

2. The design looks and feels like a Samsung phone using Apple materials.
The 5 and 5S are gorgeous devices that looked like nothing else at the time. The device even today looks like a work of art. These new designs are super generic and are nearly indistinguishable from many Samsung and Android phones.

3. The ugly antenna bands on the back are a huge step down from the 5/5S.
Was the same intern that designed the iOS7 icons responsible for the back of these devices?

4. The phones feel like slippery, rounded plastic devices in the hand.
These phones have no grip to them whatsoever and will be dropped more often than the 5 and 5S I'm sure.

This phone really feels like a product of a company that feels very threatened by Samsung and is being reactionary instead of revolutionary. Nothing about the 6 or 6 plus feels or looks new or different. The iPhone now looks like a generic Android phone and has completely thrown out most of what Steve worked so hard to establish with his company and devices. I'm a long time Apple fanatic and am extremely disappointed in this device, so much so that I'm considering returning it and going back to 5S until the next iPhone design or switching to Android. Even iOS 8 feels like a total reactionary response to Android. We now have Swype and other third party keyboards that consume resources, drain battery life and can crash etc.

Not all is terrible, I do like the ability to reply to a Message without leaving the app I'm in. That's the best feature so far of the new phones and iOS8, I'm sure Apple Pay will be another killer feature for the new phones but design wise this is a new Apple and it's a Apple that I don't like. This is a sad day indeed for fellow Jobsians. This is NOT a design Steve would have green lighted.

:( :apple: :(

I'm not trying to be mean or anything but you just stated that the iphone 6 is too big and is just awkward to use in one hand but then go on and say that you would just use the iphone 5s or switch to "Android". I'm sorry but what android flagship smartphone would you buy that has a 4 inch display?

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but you shouldn't be downplaying the iphone 6 by comparing it to android and then state that you'd either stay at iphone 5s or switch to android as if your comparison earlier didn't matter.

Simply put: Apple may not make an iPhone size that I want anymore.

I wanted bigger than 4", but after playing around with an iPhone 6 and 6+, I thought to myself that they should have made the iPhone 6 with a 4.3" screen. That way, everybody wins. People would get a bigger screen that looks better, yet it still would have been usable in one hand. It would have been a narrower Galaxy S2, which was also a very well proportioned phone.

Heck, a 4.5" and 5.5" lineup would also have been good. Making a 4.7" iPhone your smallest current generation phone was a misstep by Apple.

Actually, this used to be what Apple was great at. I have to agree with the OP. This feels reactionary, not revolutionary (also, it was amusing to see Apple launch a large phone like such a thing didn't exist and have people freak out the way they did.. I mean, come on).

I mostly agree with everything OP is saying, though I will say the phone does feel great in my hand. The antenna lines are terrible though, and the size is driving me nuts.

You can't please everyone all of the time.

If anything doesn't make any sense, it's how you just said he can have his opinion, and then told him that his opinion is crazy. Then you backed that up by saying the forum is full of people complaining.

If so many people are complaining.. then maybe his opinion isn't that crazy?

Yours is clearly a case of you disagree, so he is wrong.

No he can have an opinion, but really claiming Apple made a bad decision and just followed Samsung because he does not like the phone is just crazy. This forum is already full of complaining about the new phones. This one just does not make much sense.

I agree with some of this. The phone is slippery and could use some edges to grip. With some grip the size may be less troublesome because it wouldn't squirm in the hand. The 6+ people tend to get defensive and even those of us with 6- but it's a comon complaint. That said, we're just a few days into a new size. Coming from s size we have had in hand for as long as 7 years. Our hands are trained. I think we'll come around. Clearly the droid people have!
The antenna bands ARE awful. They could have at least used a nicer feeling plastic like the 5 and 4 bezel breaks. I'll trust in Jonny that there is some unavoidable reason they are there in the first place.
All that said. These ARE are the best iPhones technically. You cannot deny their performance.
I don't think this feels like a Samsung phone. Maybe that big Moto phone but Samsung phones generally have that cheap feel (as far as I know. I haven't held many). This is a nice phone.
I agree, Steve would not have gseen lighted this phone but it would have wound up similar. Too many people (myself included) were growing tired of the smaller screen. I think we would have seen the bands done differently somehow and an edge to the glass instead of being smoothed out.
I still say the 5/5S is the best designed iPhone to date. Just sold mine but WILL buy one down the road when they're cheap and old. That was killer design.

I was saying the part about Apple is just copying Samsung is crazy. The opinion of the iPhone 6 being to big is a common theme these past couple of days. Fine I disagree, but if that is the way you feel go for it. I have heard multiple people in the media that are android people say this is one of the best build, and looking phones they have ever seen. These is not some copycat phone. On top of that I don't think Samsung is the only company that went big. Apple just saw a market they were missing, and thought they could enter. Copying Samsung is a tired complaint that really does not hold water. It's the easy argument.

If anyone is threatened, it's samsung. They now have competition from the largest company in the world in the phablet range.

Jobs said nobody would buy a big phone. I think record sales would prove he couldn't be more wrong.

No, I think it's a mix of copying (what does that really mean anyway), and going after a market. Apple was adamant that a large phone market would never exist, and they actually ran ads with the 5 talking about how they found the perfect balance between larger phone, and usability. But people, for some crazy reason, REALLY WANT bigger phones. Samsung started that, and like it or not, it's a market that they created. Apple finally realized if they wanted to compete, they had to get into it. So it's pretty fair to say they copied, but they copied because they wanted the money, not because they thought it was a great idea (I think the fact that reachability exists is Apple saying "we know this sucks, so we're trying to make it easier for you")

For you $#%#^ who keep saying return and get the 5s

I actually can see the points of the original poster. I have the 6 and although I love the screen quality I actually would prefer a smaller phone.

The problem with so many responder's poorly thought out responses
is; many of us want some of the new features that are only available on the 6
such as better camera, apple pay and higher resolution screen with better contrast. 128gb. If Apple added these features to a new phone with the same form as the 5s i would dump my 6 in a heart beat!!!!!

Given how Apple have destroyed performance on the 4s with iOS8, who'd buy a 5s with the limited lifespan it now has?

You've just realized the apple way. Drive sales through forced (yes, forced) software upgrades that cripple legacy hardware. They should stop this practice. They don't want to create fragmentation, but it is there.

Ok whatever. Really not worth arguing over. I like the bigger phones no matter how it got here. OP can have an opinion. Sorry for making it sound like I did not care

I don't believe Apple will ever do away with the smaller phone, why would they change the 5S design anyway the people that like 5S hate the 6 so what would you geniuses want to change? You want change then bitch about it. Had they went wider on the 5 screen they would have done themselves a favor, on landscape web browsing it was a pain in the ass because the screen was too short. If they do create a new iteration of the 5 it should be a wider format screen maybe a 4.3" that was my only complaint about the 5 other than I really disliked the sharp edges of the 4 & 5 glad they went rounded like the original iPhone. You guys really must not remember apple started the rounded edge phone that you claim make it look like a Samsung phone when Apple really started it and they copied it.

Steve jobs also became a vegan because he thought it meant he wouldn't have to bathe. And he thought herbal remedies would cure his disease vs medical care, which would've saved his life.

Copious amounts of ketchup evidently.

Steve was never wrong though. My pancreas is great! He didn't eat enough I guess.

Why don't you respect a man's opinion?
If you like you're 6 / 6 plus, well, have fun with it!

I'm really tired of those obnoxious Apple's fan wannabe. Just because you have bought an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, wathever, that doesn't make you "special" and entitles you, to disrespect other members here.

I don't like the new iPhone. For me, the smallest the better. They should have released a 4" version too. I'm happy with my 5S / mini retina combo. I also find it really, really ugly. So, no money for Apple this year.

I'm not an Apple fan; I'm an old Macintosh user.

It's not so much the OP's opinion, it's how it was stated, and since when is it OK- for those defending the OP's right to express his, not OK for those who followup with theirs?

Don't understand comments like this. Steve was a visionary. He brought some brilliant products out during his time at Apple. On the other hand, he also brought out some products which didn't work. MobileMe, G4 Cube, Ping and also didn't see the antenna problem on the iPhone 4 as an issue. Steve also didn't agree with having the App Store until he eventually realised this was correct. Steve also didn't like the idea of the ''genius bar'' in the Apple Stores. Steve also thought he could treat his cancer by diet. Everyone had opinions, Steve had his and was often correct. The Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod was all a giant success as he predicted. He did however predict that larger phones wouldn't work or sell which they clearly have. Steve was wrong on some things.

At the end of the day, Steve's death was sad and he is still a huge influence on the company and always will be remembered. However, he is not here anymore, he is not leading the company. Tim Cook is. Tim Cook was Steve's desired replacement and Tim is not Steve. They are both different people who have different ideas. This is a new era for Apple. Its not Steve's era. The iPhone 6 and 6 plus look set to be a terrific success. If you don't like the iPhone 6 plus get the iPhone 6. If you like neither of them, get the 5s. You don't have to have the latest product if you don't want it. Its all a matter of personal preference but no, Steve wasn't right at all on the larger phones. He was quite wrong.

With a case on, most phones look alike. The stripes don't bother me at all since they are covered by a case. I guess Apple will still be selling the 5S for a long time for people wanting a smaller phone.

You get it! You REALLY get it! Thank you for showing what this community SHOULD be like. Some of the people on this forum make me disgusted to even be on the same forums as them and discussing the same products/company.

I'd venture to say that many of those attacking are new Apple "fans". Most of them probably don't even know the history behind the company, Steve and the Macintosh, therefore they don't have any clue what it really means to be a Apple "fan" and why people like myself feel a little worried about the direction the company is headed in.

I remember the Apple of the 90s when Steve wasn't around and it WASN'T a pretty picture, in fact I'm starting to see that same Apple now, an Apple which is being reactionary and scrambling to follow the competition.
