well, that's nice. but that's not cool to cut the line even he is famous. so it seems if anybody would be famous, then he or she just can cut the line like that, huh? I say, NO. get the ****ing line. for somebody, it is the deal. well, if he can do, I can do as well.

No Woz = no Apple = no iPhone for you waiting in the ****ing line, simple as that :D

I'm just joking, but's quite true.

Woz is the man. It's cool he came out to be with the people in line. He could made one call and have as many factory unlocked phones as he wanted for free. But instead he wanted to be part of the release. Good for him and really cool for everyone who was there. If not for the Woz, computing as we know it would not exist.

And for you haters, ACT like you have some class and show some respect.

I feel there are some things that need to be clarified, so here goes...

First off, the store manager approached us at the front of the line at 330am or so and informed us that Steve Wozniak had arrived. She asked us if it was ok if they let him enter the store first just to get pictures taken. Of course we all agreed. He wanted to wait in line with the rest of us, but security as well as Apple store management wanted him in/out as soon as possible. When she approached the rest of the crowd, she retold the announcement differently and it made it sound as if he had arrived and immediately wanted to be first.

Second, they formed two lines (preordered/preauthorized, and regular folks) ten minutes prior to opening. At 6am, Apple employees lined up in the center of the store and clapped as they welcomed Woz and the rest of us literally 30 seconds after him.

Third, although I was second in line, I was the fifth to enter the store because they accepted preordered/preauthorized customers first. My name was missing on the preauthorized list, and they accepted three additional people before letting me in. My purchase/activation total time was under 4 minutes, yet Steve's total time was longer due to his purchase of 3 iPhones and some accessories for friends that accompanied him. Technically, I received my phone before he did.

Fourth, I've met a lot of famous people in my life, yet I never viewed or treated them any different. Woz was the first person EVER that got me "teeny bopper" excited for and to see and meet him was a great experience. It might have been due to the fact that he was responsible for changing the world with a single invention. That might have something to do with it! Again, he was friendly and extremely approachable. I couldn't believe that he was walking all over the store with my iPhone box in hand asking every employee for a silver Sharpie.

I'll upload some pictures later. Let me sign up for a Flicker account.

Why does he even have to buy one? I figured he could make a couple phone calls and obtain one easy.

Edit: nm above poster answered++

Steve jobs offered him a free iPhone when the original came out but woz insisted on standing in line.

Those ripping Woz on this site really needs to learn the history of Apple and what that man means.

Very cool in what he did and I would let him cut in front of me any day of the week. While I'm somewhat new to the Apple scene as of late, all of my first computer experiences in gaming and programing back in the 80's was done on an Apple II+ for which I have Woz to thank.

A number of people in this thread read it the same way - it did not appear to be a joke.

When others read it the same way......

Well I never said anything bad about him so it's not a big deal even if you didn't realize i was kidding:rolleyes:

confused...

If Wozniak wanted to experience the same 'thrill' as all the little people queuing up to buy, then he should have joined the queue. Pointless gesture if you play the 'do you know who I am' card to push in front.

You are mixing up Woz with John Kerry. In this story, Woz is applauded by the crowd.
:p

the density....

is as deep as the ignorance sadly. Such as it is.

Da troof

So, according to Woz Beard's post @155, Woz DIDN'T ask to be the first in line--the store manager (as well as other store personnel, probably) wanted him to be first, so they could get pictures of him entering their store first, just ahead of the people entering just behind him (good PR for their store, and the kind of photo opp I've seen before, maybe even with Woz on another occasion at another store), and security wanted Woz first so they wouldn't have to worry about him for an undetermined period of time waiting outside the store. Woz saw their reasoning, said OK, and then the store manager screwed it up when she asked the people in line, by misrepresenting Woz as being the one to ask, maybe so he'd take any heat, not her.

So no more accusing Woz of being an elitist. He's about as far from being an elitist as a famous person can get, without being silly about it.

+1 In addition to all that, everyone behind him were able to get pics made with him and their new phones and get boxes signed by him which would be kinda hard to do if he was standing in line outside.

Great story and congrats to all the people that got to meet The Woz. Have to be honest I'm not arsed about meeting famous people in any way, shape or form but Steve W is one person I would love to meet.

Anyone else with pics, please upload them and thanks for the great story. Enjoy your iPhones.

Wonder if he'll be at the Trafford Store next year... :p

Omg, it's great that he's so cool he just came along and pushed in front of people who'd been there for hours/days..!?

If Bill Gates did that at the launch of one of microsoft's products you'd all be laughing at him and saying how up himself and how much of a dick he is.. just pointing something else.

Wtf!!!

are you cereal! you guys must be on crack! it's a flippin' phone for cryin' out loud! not a rock concert! get lives!
