And my cousin just got his new game destroyed by his own 360. All he did was put the controller down on the table and OOPS! Disk Error.
Horrid noises. Game dead.

Yeah right... its your cousin now is it

It's amazing how you post similar FUD but blame it on a TV report you overheard on another thread.....

I think we have a pretty good idea and 'sized you up' at this stage......

There's nothing to stop a new 360 from failing. There was a report on TV the other week, and it proved that if you're playing a game just a small vibration can cause you're disk to be ruined forever (even something like putting a book down on a nearby table). And Microsoft claims it's the users fault, and wont offer any help.

I have both, more recently bought a 360. The amount of money I spent JUST to get the value I got out the box for a PS3 was nearly equal. So those saying $400 is too much (it is a lot of money) when compared to the 360, it's really not bad. And this was me buying an arcade system. I needed a HDD, buy xbox live, controller battery pack + cable, wireless network adapter, etc etc.

So PS3 wins for me.

People keep making that list and seem to think that it is far.

I have a 360 with the 60gig hard drive and yes XBOX live.

For example I do not need a wireless adapter for my 360 so I do not pay for it nor do I need a HDMI cable I use the color streaming out of the 360. My TV can not take advantage of HDMI over color streaming so no need to pay for that extra.

Here is the TV report, if you didn't believe me. Amazing how the BBC have to warn people because MS wont.

And I'll get some pictures up of that disk sometime. My cousin came over this aternoon. We were GOING to play Burnout. I only said about my cousin because this problem was supposed to be with 'old' consoles. If you call last month old, then sure. I'm just annoyed that MS wont own up, and warn people.

Might like to point out that your link worthless to anyone out side of the UK.

But made a point you have a history of bashing and your agruments are weak.

For example the disk destroying I have a feeling are few and far between. I have had both my 360 be moved while a disk was spinning, I have had the stand where it is stored tripped over while disk and DVD where playing multiple times. Net result is ZERO damage to my disk or my DVDs. I bet you will find a lot more stories like mine than like yours.

I was horrified seeing my brother tilt the 360 whilst a game was spinning, but yea no damage. Heck the 360 sits alongside a beefy deskfan during summer and the vibrations from that have never damaged one of our discs.

Dude..

Go with a PS3, My family got a 160GB PS3, some Blu-Ray movies and some games last Christmas. It has been amazing so far.

Also my friend got a 360 around the same time and his has already gotten the red ring of death. :D

I didn't mention HDMI cable since both need it and you can get the for like $6 a piece at monoprice.

That's cool that you don't use/need wireless but some people do and there aren't that many alternatives for non techie people besides the $100 adapter.

You don't have rechargeable battery pack included, nor the charging cable (PS3 controllers have built in recharging batts and come w/ charging cable and uses a very common USB --> miniB USB). Or I guess you could buy batteries. The 60gb 360 is $300 + $30 for year of live (if you hopped on any of the recent deals). $20 for battery pack/cable. I'm not sure what color streaming is, but I assume that does not allow upconverting your dvds due to copyright. So yeah you basically have paid up near the amount of a PS3 and still lacking some features. Not to mention the HDD is easily expandable without the use of proprietary HDD as the xbox uses. They are way overpriced, I mean the 120GB is like what $100+ bucks? For that much you could find a 500GB SATA 2.5" to stick into the PS3.

I don't think you made an argument against PS3's cost, but I was just laying out my argument to those that have made a knock against cost. And if the PS3 drops anytime soon, this is a very good value. It is hard to deny blu-ray, very awesome..

i have both systems.

the major difference is the online play. if you like to play shooters or any type of game that requires communication, then the 360 is the way to go, no-brainer (it is only $4 a month for Xbox Live). there is a party system where you can chat with your friends all at the same time while playing whicever game you guys are playing. you can also chat with friends on different games.

psn isn't even close. however, the blu-ray player is pretty sweet for the ps3.

i hate to give my money to microsoft, but my i cant live without my gears of war on xbox.

come on guys, the xbox 360 is awesome at its lowest price point. Sheesh, so much bashing of consoles.

In the uk you can get your kid an awesome console for £125, if it breaks out of warranty, buy another one (after a year it'll probably be around £100 anyway). Have had a couple of xbox and thought they represented great value: not everyone goes online (I certainly don't), not everyone has an HD telly, not everyone plays enough to warrant the purchase of rechargeable batteries (look at the wii for example) etc etc etc.

Seriously guys, they are all great consoles. Oh and by the way, I don't have a 360 now, I have a PS3 and Wii.

with netflix, ps3 media server and games, i am reaaaaaly liking my ps3

i can watch ALL my movies on my computer on my ps3

really sweet

I used to use my original Xbox for that. Streaming DIVX and every file format under the sun was win. It's funny that a (albeit modded) console from 2000/2001ish has better media capabilities than the new systems.

I prefer my PS3 over the 360, and have done for a long time. Both systems are launch models (60GB PS3, 20GB 360), and I haven't had the RRoD (am I the only one?), though the 360 has thrown up E74 a few times which is resolved by a restart.

Game-wise there isn't much in it - most titles are multi-platform these days, and although the PS3 usually gets an inferior port, the actual difference isn't massive (well, except Ghostbusters...), and not enough to bother me (case in point, CoD: MW2 looks great on both systems). Both systems have some exclusives, but I've had more interest in the PS3 side of these (FF XIII Versus, LBP, Killzone, Uncharted, Wipeout HD, PixelJunk Monsters, Fat Princess) than the 360 (GoW, Halo, Fable). I'll play both systems, and buy exclusives, but if the title is cross-platform I'll pick up the PS3 release.

As for hardware, I much prefer the PS3. I can't stand the NXE, as I can't find what I want most of the time. It's basically a clunky, poorly designed UI. Sony's XMB on the other hand is elegant, easy to navigate and everything is where it should be. I also prefer the DualShock controllers over the 360's efforts - this may be due to being a PlayStation gamer since the original, but I've never liked the Xbox controllers that much.

I also appreciate being given WiFi, a user-expandable HDD and BD in the price. I had to fork out £55 for the 360's WiFi adapter, and the 20GB HDD is really restrictive now that games can be installed. I've stopped using the BD player in the PS3 as I have a pair of standalones, but it seems to evidence in the games (PS3 titles are noted for higher resolution textures) as well.

Both consoles handle streaming, but the 360 seems to demand Windows Media Centre. PS3 has iPlayer (fantastic) in the UK, which is seeing a lot of use.

I'll freely admit the 360 is a bargain. £125 for an entry point is great, but it is a crippled unit. If I was buying another 360 I'd be going for the Elite, and the PS3 is only £30ish more - but offers more. I can see the advantages for some people in the accessories being optional though.

Ultimately, just buy both. The prices have dropped so you can get two for what one originally cost, and then you get all the games and none of the fighting.

Not anymore :(. They somehow managed to raise the RRP of the Arcade, I bought mine at £115 (RRP was 130 though) and a few weeks later MS bumped them up to £160. Elites are now £200 but you usually get 2-3 AAA titles bundled in with that. PS3's are £250.

I use my PS3's now more than the 360. Just swings and roundabouts.

There are a couple of games I wil be getting for 360 over the PS3 such as Bayonetta, but unless there is a noticeable difference I tend to get the ps3 version simply because I have 3xps3's and only 1x360.

Whats the subscription cost for that?

Lol, its so true. I have a modded xbox as well with a 250gb hdd in it to hold movies and whatnot. I'd like to put a bigger hdd in it but i havent modded any in a long time and i'm afraid i'll screw it up.

May i ask why? I'm just curious.
Bayonetta looks pretty awesome.

£160 for an Arcade? Screw that, seriously. Pay £30 more and get an Elite!

PS3 is £230, ish, for a 120GB model (check Amazon!)

Bayonetta from the Jap demo I have downloaded is better on the 360. The PS3 version is washed out and the textures look faded in comparison. Also the frame-rate isn't as smooth as the 360 build. This is just one of the few exceptions these days where one port really does feel better on platform A rather than platform B.

I thought by now most developers would be able to code for both platforms simultaneously. Seeing a game that is ported to the ps3 from 360 just makes me think that the developer isnt really that talented to begin with.

That's not really fair.

It depends on the how 'complicated' and how much that code was optimized for the specific hardware. Porting some code may be more complicated that porting other, hence some games are better ported than others. This can go either way platform wise.

In Bayonetta's case Sega have done a very good job, and if you didn't have the option of playing on a 360 your unlikely to miss it, however after playing the demos for me the framerate was really the key to this title more so than the washed out textures, and when a game is very fast paced as Bayonetta that rocksteady frame rate is worth choosing platform A over platform B.

I own both a PS3 and a 360. I prefer the PS3 for many reasons, but it mainly comes down to me liking the controller layout better (I had a PS2) and the exclusives are generally more up my alley. But I have the 360 so that I can play it's exclusives like Halo and Forza. But because of the controller aspect, I'm more likely to pick up a Multi-platform game for PS3.

I don't really get why people care which console is better, they're both good and really, for what they cost these days, its not too expensive to grab both so that you can enjoy both system's exclusives.

Especially if you wait a little down the line. A 360 & PS3 will probably only set you back as much as a launch PS3 these days.
:):)

I don't think you understand how game development works.

ps 3 is a nice machine. for me it still has the same problem it had on release. not a good enough game library for many. BUT it has gotten better. Maybe by the end of 2010.

Im actually pretty happy with its library now I just want the mass amount of rpgs the ps 2 had. ps 3 has a few but its really weak in comparison to the xbox 360 or ps 2.

i go to where the games are that I want to play I dont care who makes it.
