I've also settled on the STM Skinny as my Ipad case. Since the Ipad2 was my first tablet, I didn't know what my requirements for a case were. I wish it had been a cheaper process, but I went through a lot of different cases to find one I really liked. I also learned that designing and engineering a good tablet case can't be that easy, since I came across so many with problems (poor design, poor implementation, etc).
Keeping in mind that different folks will have different requirements and preferences, following is what I like about the STM Skinny:
1) It's skinny (not too bulky). I primarily use my Ipad around the house, so I think it offers adequate protection. When I want to take it outside, I put the Ipad in a sleeve.
2) The case doesn't cover the Ipad bezel. Learned I really prefer this look.
3) The magnets in the outside clips keep the cover closed. This one is a biggie for me. I had a number of cases that were pretty good, but the cover was not secured when closed (some had additional straps, but these were not convenient to use all the time). Consequently when I picked up the ipad the top cover would move around and you could hear the sleep/awake feature clicking on and off. One of the case manufacturers posted that this wasn't a big deal with his case, since the Ipad would go to sleep eventually if left undisturbed. Yeah, but STM proves you don't need to compromise on this issue.
4) The inside lining of the top cover is not a "Lint Magnet from Hell." Surprised and disappointed that my most expensive Ipad case had this issue. Their lining was much worse than many less expensive cases.
5) The typing angle is good. Many cases seems to have gotten this right. Unfortunately, the book-style cases (Portenzo, Treegloo, Dodo) have not. Tried one of these cases and it just didn't work for me. Pad & Quill recently came out with a revised design which addresses this problem, while Treegloo came out with a new type of latch which allows multiple angles (looks a little clunky, but haven't used it). These revisions may address this issue for the book-style cases, but I feel no need to look at them since I am pleased with the Skinny.
Someone posted on this thread that STM is coming out with a Skinny model in faux leather, and no tab. Very interested to see this one. The current tab doesn't bother me, but it would be nice if the case worked without it. Til then I'm finally enjoying my Ipad and not obsessing about cases
