I received my STM skinny which I ordered just a few days ago.

First impressions are really good. Love the slim profile and how light it is (slightly heavier than Apple Smart Cover).

I have been using it all day and have no issues with the sleep/wake problem that others have commented on. With that and the above post it seems STM have fixed the issue.

Some commented also on the Tab / flap. It's not an issue for me.

This could be a keeper!!!!!!! No more cases just now. :D

I want to echo this post.

I wanted a case that was as slim as possible, and yet protected my iPad. One day I came across the STM Skinny and saw that it basically fit my requirements. The only other case that I've been interested in was the Ion Factory Carbon Fiber case, but I read that had some problems with not working as a stand.

I ordered the STM Skinny, it came in super fast, and it fits the iPad 2 perfectly. It holds the iPad in with plastic clips, and the clips also protect the corner of the iPad. The stand works great in both orientations. The case looks great, it feels great, etc.

My issue of course was folding the back triggered the screen on/off thing. At first I thought I had a defective iPad, lol. The case feels fantastic when you're holding it with the top folded back, but the screen flickering absolutely sucks. Apparently they've fixed this in current gen cases, so I can't see any problems with this case now.

BTW, I ordered from RadTech. They were super quick with shipping and I have zero complaints. Yesterday I emailed Chris at RadTech about the screen on/off issue, and he replied within like 5 minutes, and went ahead and looked up my data and sent me the patch kit to fix the screen issue. Absolutely fantastic customer service. I totally recommend buying from RadTech.

Edit: I just saw someone had a concern about the "tab" that's used to help close the case. The case is held closed by very strong magnets and the tab. The case will stay closed without the tab, which is fine for moving it around the house, etc, but anytime I bring it with me I use the tab to close it to make it extra sturdy. The tab is stiff, and yet easily flexible to manipulate in different orientations. When you have the case oriented as a stand, it's very easy to put the tab in the slot to make it sturdy. Likewise, it's very easy to put the tab in the slot (the opposite way) when you have the back folded flat.

After reading about everyone's troubles with the book cases, etc, it really makes me appreciate this case!

I've also settled on the STM Skinny as my Ipad case. Since the Ipad2 was my first tablet, I didn't know what my requirements for a case were. I wish it had been a cheaper process, but I went through a lot of different cases to find one I really liked. I also learned that designing and engineering a good tablet case can't be that easy, since I came across so many with problems (poor design, poor implementation, etc).

Keeping in mind that different folks will have different requirements and preferences, following is what I like about the STM Skinny:

1) It's skinny (not too bulky). I primarily use my Ipad around the house, so I think it offers adequate protection. When I want to take it outside, I put the Ipad in a sleeve.

2) The case doesn't cover the Ipad bezel. Learned I really prefer this look.

3) The magnets in the outside clips keep the cover closed. This one is a biggie for me. I had a number of cases that were pretty good, but the cover was not secured when closed (some had additional straps, but these were not convenient to use all the time). Consequently when I picked up the ipad the top cover would move around and you could hear the sleep/awake feature clicking on and off. One of the case manufacturers posted that this wasn't a big deal with his case, since the Ipad would go to sleep eventually if left undisturbed. Yeah, but STM proves you don't need to compromise on this issue.

4) The inside lining of the top cover is not a "Lint Magnet from Hell." Surprised and disappointed that my most expensive Ipad case had this issue. Their lining was much worse than many less expensive cases.

5) The typing angle is good. Many cases seems to have gotten this right. Unfortunately, the book-style cases (Portenzo, Treegloo, Dodo) have not. Tried one of these cases and it just didn't work for me. Pad & Quill recently came out with a revised design which addresses this problem, while Treegloo came out with a new type of latch which allows multiple angles (looks a little clunky, but haven't used it). These revisions may address this issue for the book-style cases, but I feel no need to look at them since I am pleased with the Skinny.

Someone posted on this thread that STM is coming out with a Skinny model in faux leather, and no tab. Very interested to see this one. The current tab doesn't bother me, but it would be nice if the case worked without it. Til then I'm finally enjoying my Ipad and not obsessing about cases :).

Yes, my source at STM told me this case will be introduced in July. It'll be called Codex and judging from the excellent design of the Skinny, it should be sweet.

How reliable would you say this source is?
I ask because if it is the case then I might as well wait until July for this Codex rather than getting the skinny now.

Also what do you mean by introduced? Will it be shipping in July, or will it only be announced?

My source is very reliable. From an email:

... The new folio is called Codex and it will be available in early July.
We decided to use a leather like microfibre fabric instead of real leather, mainly due to the wear and tear issues. Many large car manufacturers use this material for their “leather” seats.

Regarding the tab- we’re doing something different with the codex- it has a plastic kickstand on the back that is set at 2 levels for typing and viewing. It sits flat when not in use and easily pulls out when you need it...

Oh, I am all over an STM Skinny in leather!

I am concerned that this kickstand will add to the over all thickness, though. We'll see.

If this Codex leather version is as thin and as well made as the current STM Skinny, I'll be all over it too! The kickstand was kind of a kick in the nuts thought - but obviously I haven't seen it yet. I wonder if I can just rip the kick stand off and have a beautiful, thin, well-made leather case?

Ordered one of these off amazon today for $31. I have a bulkier leather case that is great, but felt I needed/wanted something thinner for days when I'm not travelling and just need it in the office and at home. Seems like the ideal case for such use, and still easy enough to pop out the iPad and put into something a bit more heavy duty for travel days.

Crap. There was me saying no more cases for now............. :D

I'm curious about the kickstand design. I'm finding that the tab holding the case on the STM Skinny, in the typing position, is starting to slip out easily.

I noticed that on mine too. If I make sure the tab is pulled all the way through and don't move the iPad around too much, it's very stable. Overall I am very happy with the Skinny.

Just got my black one from Amazon. Wow. This is the perfect thickness and the material is a lot smoother than the pictures looked. I think I have a keeper.

I originally had an ifrogz summit but it really added too much bulk. This still keeps the REALLY slim feel to it while adding much more protection than the smart cover at 75% of the cost. Awesome!

Same here ... if it's on a fairly stable surface or I'm not moving it around a ton, it's fine, but occasionally I will have the tab slide out.

I'm going to order this one, or the Yoobao. However, some users say it'll bubble with the Power Support antiglare screen protector, but they had the iCarbon on as well. Can anyone, with the PS, confim that it doesn't (/does) bubble with this case? If not - it's Yoobao for me.

I have both the Yoobao and STM Skinny. I like the Skinny better because the Yoobao cutouts are not as centered as I would like it to be and with that, the wire connector is a tight fit. And to answer your question about the Power Support film, I have the PS Anti-Glare film (which looks and works great) installed on my iPad 2 and it does not bubble at all. I'm very happy with the case and the film.

The Tab is Problematic

I've had this case for about a month. Basically, it is very good, stylish, protective, and most of all - Skinny. However, the tab loses its stiffness over time after repeated opening and closings. Also, the tab gets rounded when you close it and it goes around the side to tuck into the slot on the back. The result is that it easily comes out when you try to use it in the typing orientation. It slips out before I even set it down. I have to take extra measures to make sure it is all of the way into the slot. If the iPad will not stay securely in one of the orientation positions, the case loses its effectiveness.

I'd love to find a reasonably priced case, similar to the STM Skinny, which easily went from one orientation to another and stayed that way.

Yeh, there's really nothing holding that tab in place. I'm thinking a little dot of Velcro there might fix it right up.

It's really a shame they put their ugly logo huge on the front...I'm not into paying for the privilege of paying to advertise for somebody's company. You want everyone to see the logo, send me a case free and I'll think aboutit.

Oh sure. They have the only product with a logo on it. Do you drive a car? Did you get it for free? Too bad you can't get past the logo and enjoy the case.

I'm looking at the "logo" right now and it's half the length of my pinky, and not even as wide as my pinky. And I don't have "fat fingers."

LOL exactly. I'm sitting here looking at my MacBook that has a big glowing Apple on the back and the words "MacBook" on it. My iPhone has an Apple logo on the back so when I hold it up to my head everyone knows it. My car has the manufacturer's name on the back. My fridge has a name on it. My TV has a name on it. Basically anything that uses electricity has a name on it.

The guy's just looking for *something* to complain about. Just be happy man! It's the single best case for the iPad on Earth.
