Some sort of temple, shrine, or memorial might be appropriate. How about a huge statue of Steve Jobs on horseback?
Agreed, and make it one complimentary and proportional to fit the surroundings of the natural space... something... like this!

(stick it underground, & make the public space a lovely park)

That's kind of what the 5th Ave. location in NYC is like: just a cool glass cube that leads you down a spiral staircase to the store underground. The cube lets in a fair amount of light -- it's a nice design and has a minimal impact on the space above.

Lived in Stockholm for all my life.
Having this store would be great for Stockholm. The only one right now is in Täby centrum (outside the central part), which most people don’t know about. I never visited Täby centrum until I moved to the northern part of Stockholm.

To be honest I don’t really understand why people are complaining. It’s not like the actual park will disappear. I assume all the whining comes from young lefties who hang around in that park in that park in the weekends.

Sad day for Stockholm and Apple. Luckily Apple is already doing extremely good in Sweden.

Its the new rulers of Sthml, The Alliance (rightwing) thats stopping it, not the left.

The restaurant that is closing has an open café that is open on evenings. Apple don’t want a café open after business hours, the city has asked but not gotten from Apple to house a café to open up the park for evenings. Result is that the park will be dark, empty and not a friendly place to be on evenings. Closing it of.

It reminds me of the Stoddard Temple (Temple to the Human Spirit) building from the Fountainhead novel. With a statue of Dominique Francon set on center in lieu of Steve Jobs on horseback.

They don’t like facts that show Apple in a bad light here. Pun intended.

Man these comments are ridiculous... how dare Apple try to open a store in nicely landscaped area instead of just shoving it wherever.

Like, it's up to the locals on what they want but I think people are blowing it out of proportion with all this negativity.

They want Apple to open a cafe? Why not tack on a small grocery store while we're at it?

I agree except Apple spent lots of time and money and had the approval from the previous council.

I agree with a previous poster that if they are canceling the agreement to let Apple open the store, they should at least find some way to compensate Apple (i.e. perhaps give them an alternate location).

Perhaps if Apple was a better corporate citizen people might be more open to Apple's encroaching presence in their neighborhoods...
