Seems a bit extra of the incoming City Council since the previous one already approved the plans. Apple has spent years seeking and winning approval, which was no small task. Will the City compensate Apple for all its expenses. Not very business friendly.

I’m pretty sure that Apple isn’t going to go bankrupt over this. I’m sure there are plenty of other places in Stockholm where Apple could build yet another store. Soon enough Apple stores will be like Starbucks or CVS, (at least) one on every corner

Lots of vegetarian food smells and smokes too.

You sure do have a litany of excuses for discrimination.
I used to go sometimes to a veg restaurant that was not smelly at all.

It is not discrimination, if you can't eat vegetables you could have beer, coffee, tea, cake, or a sandwich.

Who wants a sandwich without meat? Only a very tiny percentage of the public, especially in Sweden where eating reindeer is an important part of their culture.

Again, why would you insist on discriminating against the many, for your own little personal dietary limitations?

If you’re having that much trouble fitting in with society at large, maybe restaurants and public parks/spaces aren’t for you?

Who said you could not eat a ham sandwich? It would not be a religious restaurant.

What dietary limitations? It is you who seems limited for no valid reason.

Uh... you said vegetarian restaurant, those wouldn’t serve ham.

Do you know how to use the built-in dictionary features on your device? There are some wonderful tutorials on YouTube to get you started.

It would also be a café. That would be the area keeping the sandwiches.

Thats why Danes never get one of these in their land.
btw how that h Swedes would allow this happen. Does anyone notice that looks like Kim Jong un's house.

Stick it where the sun don’t shine, Apple.
(stick it underground, & make the public space a lovely park)

If you really want to win the public’s favor, build a huge public parking level under it.

I concur, except for the public parking part. You’re probably not an European, as you seem to be oblivious to the fact that many of our cities (those in Sweden being pioneers among them) are outright banning cars from city centres. ;)

I mean, the ISDS was created for this kind of thing… But Shirley he can’t be serious. It would be a PR disaster… Only big conglomerates, utility companies, etc. pull that kind of stunt; Apple, being a consumer electronics company, would never attack an entire city in such a fashion.

Beautiful commercial buildings are great and should be applauded... but we should oppose this sinister privatization of public space at every opportunity.

Thank goodness it won't happen any time soon. Apple, don't destroy my beloved Stockholm, please. Money isn't everything

The problem is that Apple wants to take advantage of the architecture and surroundings of remarkable places and put some infrastructure, called Apple Store that is out of the context where it is located for the sole purpose of attract customers.

I am happy to read this news as a citizen of Stockholm. That location is beautiful on its own, and regardless what it is there now, what Apple wanted to do would probably mean the beginning of the destruction of that area too as it has happened over the years with the quite near area of Sergels Torg (which is now going thru some heavy renovations and construction of horrible big cubes of offices).

It is sad to see how money is destroying culture and emptying the city centers. The center of Stockholm is already quite empty after working hours except for tourists due to flats where people used to live being reconverted into offices so that whoever owns such flat or building can make even more profit.

Business gentrification unfortunately. And the stupidity of society that is willing to concentrate in a small area for work and commute for hours to live...

I hope not. There are plenty of locations in Stockholm for Apple to build a store. But Apple's obsession for flagship locations, usually abusing public space, is, for sure, something that doesn't deserve any compensation.

Stockholm (and Sweden) is very business friendly. The number of start-ups that pop up and similar tech-companies is astonishing, so that statement doesn't make sense. There is a huge mall, recently built in the North of Stockholm, quite popular as well where Apple could afford easily a store but Apple wants something more than just a store... Apple wants to be in the middle of some remarkable location to take advantage of the history and architecture of the place while creating a block of glass called Apple Store to attract just the masses and sell the sustainability and how well the idea fits in the location and culture.

Despite the juvenile nature of your response, I will respond: yes, I am serious. Again, Apple spent years to gain approval of this design. That included redesigns, concessions and expenditures of time, energy and money. It was finally approved. And now a new set of politicians comes along and want to simply scrap the deal that took years to win approval. That isn't business friendly.

It calls for the replacement of the TGIF eyesore. An Apple store would not be emitting foul food odors. It will have community events tied-in to the store going forward. It would go nicely with the new-ish office space in the area.

This about-face is senseless. Will each new administration kill approved projects going forward? If that becomes the standard, progress will never happen.

If this plan is scrapped, why would Apple go forward with another project? They spent years working on this plan. Made concessions and gained proper approval. Now a new administration wants tells them to kick sand. Any future project essentially becomes a money pit.
