No. If company X posted confidential data online accidentally or if an employee was shouting out secrets in a restaurant, that’s a leak. If someone forcefully takes data after performing a malicious action, that is stealing.

Do you really think Ming Chi Kuo and L0vetodream are getting all of their "leaks" by overhearing secrets at a restaurant? I can agree with the malicious action part though.

I realize the purpose of the rumor site. In my opinion, MR should have skipped this article and if that made people look elsewhere for the story, so be it.

I understand the sentiment but I don't think MacRumors has survived this long, while other similar blogs from the early 2000s have died off, by not posting rumors that people want to read.

Who knows? Maybe Ming Chi Kuo’s brother works in one of the plants and Kuo overhears his brother on the phone to plant engineers?

Why not both? Those that want to use magsafe could use the new magsafe port, others that want to keep charging via usb-c, just use your usb-c adapter.

Win/win.
Not if it costs a USB4 port; It makes more sense for a magsafe that's USB-C compatible so Macbook Pro users keep 4 USB4/Thunderbolt 4 ports + HDMI 2.1 port + SD/CFExpress card reader.

So now we crossed the line from fun leaks to criminal leaks and IP. hope the group gets caught.

“fun leaks”?
Do you think Apple find any kind of leaks fun?

People are acting like MacRumors sent in a team to murder people at an apple design lab and we are now here gleefully talking about the results.

Everything Apple will be fine folks.
My goodness the overreaction here..

If people are conflicted about this article and not other articles about leaks, there is a big disconnect there.
They specifically say the leak was from a randsomware attack. With ongoing criminal demands made. That's not quality journalism standards.

I guess Apple won't be inviting MR to anymore Events. (Oh, wait.)

People complaining that MacRumors is posting rumors about the Mac. Can you believe it!
But in this case MR isn't posting rumors. They are posting about stolen information. You know, illegally-obtained stuff? Information that is being used to extort money from a company. While you're supporting the "journalism" hopefully you'll support the forthcoming price hike on Apple's future products if Apple has to give in to an extortionist.

Most leaks are "stolen" property from Apple and their manufactures, how is this any different? Also, Apple is being ransomed for money, how is that not NEWS WORTHY... this is going to be on every news outlet, so, why wouldn't an Apple specialized news page is not gonna report on it? And besides, they didn't even post the pictures.

And all you ethical and moral police don't forget that most of the leaks are obtained illegally by someone breaching a NDA contract or stealing classified information about Apple intelectual property.

It feels to me like the HDMI and SD card might just be on the larger one (16”)
The only thing I see is that it doesn't appear the M1 chip or "M1-next" will have the hardware pipes to keep multiple Thunderbolt3/USB4 ports filled up. That's not an issue for regular users, but anyone moving large amounts of data like editing external visor off a SAN via fiber channel might get bottlenecks.

I don't know how to feel about this.

It's nice knowing Apple's plans, however, the data theft is obviously gross.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

From what, the render?

Ugh, now I'm going to be short a port....and have one that's never, ever used for anything other than gathering dust.

I just hope they make a magsafe to USB-c cord so we can continue to use all the existing power bricks we have. Having to buy another set - especially ones with fragile connectors - just sucks.

Yes, the third party is at fault but unless signed in an agreement with Apple, Quanta may turn around and simply say ‘no’, or perhaps ask for help with the payment.

Quanta should pay though yes, as it is their fault (most likely).
I am positive there is a signed agreement between anyone Apple releases preproduction schematics to, much less someone who manufacturers millions of devices for them. ;)

My last point was that Quanta can certainly say "no," but a response along those lines (on top of letting a security breach like this happen) is not going to be beneficial for future Apple contracts.

I cannot respect people who steal stuff just to get "news-worthy" credit. I'll happily wait until WWDC.
On a different note I do not want to see MagSafe return on the MacBook unless it's done right and make sense.
Obviously everyone wants it done right...
Kind of majorly disappointed in your aiding and abetting the thieves by publishing this.

there is no societal benefit in publishing something of this nature, especially if that something is based on industrial espionage.

Shame on you Mac Rumors.
They reported on widely available leak already, ya'll act like they posted Tim's nude pic.

I am right there with you.

I also use that is one of many examples to caution people who are just praising every aspect of these new iMacs.

This company makes all kinds of mistakes all the time and people just gloss over them and never seem to revisit history to see what actually ended up being good or bad and holding them accountable.
For me some of the biggest red flags remain how:

- Their top leadership (starting with Cook) does not understand or care for the actual needs of the Mac user. Instead they dabble with pie-in-the-sky innovations, "solutions" without a problem, and color options
- Their top leadership does not really get design. Good old design thinking and frontloading the needs of the user really did die with Jobs
- They spend years poring over component upgrades into unchanging designs, then when it comes to creating a wholesome new product refresh they're being aimless, unimaginative and greedy
- They're too attached to their past designs (either by complacency or plain lack of capability) to break new ground
- They don't seem to mind about gross design flaws like the Magic Mouse charging port after all these years
- Just because something is old doesn't make it a classic (see: big iMac chin)
- More buzzwords and stilted corporate talk than saying anything meaningful
