People act like macrumors works for apple or something. They're reporting on news in the wild, get over it. Either read or don't read the story. I don't get why people here so bent out of shape when anything like this is posted. You'd think the secret to how jesus resurrected was reported here.

Anyways, for the rest of us, glad to see this is staying in line with the rumors that we've been seeing. I'm currently using a 2013 rMBP and still use my hdmi and sd card ports. This would be a fantastic machine to replace my current one as those ports are the ones I rely on day to day.

Even more excited to see this touchbar killed off.

Looks like a lot of folks here would only be comfortable at Apple's Press Releases site. After all that's the only location to read articles explicitly authorized by Apple and not leaked/ stolen/ fell of a truck etc.

@otternonsense

Completely agree with everything you posted there.

For whatever reason they have lost the understanding and implementation of design being much more than just “how it looks”.

I would argue that about the white bezel on the iMac.

I’m fine with them offering that for some fun and change, but they need to be offering a black one as an option also.

I had a white bezel iPad Pro one time and oh my, never again. Particularly with a feature like True Tone. The white bezel basically never looks good next to the content on the screen

Not sure why people have an issue with this, but continue to enable leakers by eating up all their stuff. You guys know that a leakers source is a scumbag and breaking the law too, right?

They specifically say the leak was from a randsomware attack. With ongoing criminal demands made. That's not quality journalism standards.

I guess Apple won't be inviting MR to anymore Events. (Oh, wait.)
What’s the difference how it was stolen, through hacking or an inside job (leaks)? And just because there’s no ransom makes it ok steal and post? That’s an arbitrary line in the sand.

I’m not saying whether MR should or shouldn’t have posted this, only that people who are drawing the line here are shutting their eyes to a lot more.

HDMI? What for...

MagSafe ok but as long as we can still charge via USB C. I want to be able to charge my laptop from the monitor

If we only dealt with nice people we would have nobody to deal with

But in this case MR isn't posting rumors. They are posting about stolen information. You know, illegally-obtained stuff? Information that is being used to extort money from a company. While you're supporting the "journalism" hopefully you'll support the forthcoming price hike on Apple's future products if Apple has to give in to an extortionist.
You guys do realise that if a site named Mac Rumors doesn't post anymore "illegally-obtained" leaks, this site would have next to no more content? It's literally built around the fact that it posts these leaks, and has only gotten this popular due to users like you enjoying the content.

I doubt they will do this after releasing an iMac with less ports.
I thought the same thing -- but from the specs it seems like the iMac is very much a "consumer" Mac, versus a "Pro" Mac. Kind of like the way the base model "consumer" iPads have Lightning connectors and now the iPad Pro has a USB-C/Thunderbolt.

On the Mac side, seems like they're using stuff like card readers and HDMI ports to differentiate the Pro line. If that's true, it's possible we'll see a larger iMac Pro with more ports.

And all things considered, the new iMacs don't even look that good.

I guess there's a reason they keep using a white background to obscure the size of those fugly white iMac bezels in their marketing shots. Reminds me of their use of back shots and dark wallpapers to obscure the notch in iPhone marketing.

The (whatever) reason is simple: Cook.

Schematics stolen from Apple supplier Quanta Computer outline Apple's plans for the next-generation MacBook Pro models that are expected in 2021, and clearly confirm plans for additional ports and a return to MagSafe.

Ports-2021-MacBook-Pro-Mockup-Feature-1-copy.jpg

MacRumors saw the schematics after they were leaked online, and some of them feature the logic board of the next-generation MacBook Pro. On the right side of the machine, there's a visible HDMI port, accompanied by a USB-C/Thunderbolt port and followed by an SD Card reader. The left side features two additional USB-C/Thunderbolt ports and a MagSafe charging slot, for a total of three USB-C/Thunderbolt ports instead of four as we have today.

Rumors from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg have previously said that all of these ports will be coming to the 2021 MacBook Pro models, but the schematics both confirm the addition of the new ports and give us insight into their positioning.

The codename for the Mac is "J316," which suggests that the logic board that we've seen is for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. There's also a "J314" model that likely correlates to the 14-inch MacBook Pro that Apple is also rumored to be working on. Both machines are expected to feature the new ports, MagSafe charging option, and upgraded Apple silicon chips.

This information, which was also shared by 9to5Mac, comes from a ransomware group called REvil, which claims to have accessed the internal computers of Apple supplier Quanta Computer.

Along with the logic board layout, the documentation includes deeply technical listings of MacBook components and layouts that may ultimately provide additional information on these machines as it's parsed. Leaked images of the new MacBook Pro floating around on Twitter also confirm that the device will not feature a Touch Bar, which is in line with rumors that we've heard. The casing design may also feature more rounded corners.

REvil has threatened to release additional documents stolen from Quanta Computer if Apple does not pay a ransom fee by May 1. REvil plans to release new files every day until Apple pays the fee, and Apple has not commented on the situation.

Quanta Computer said that it has indeed been subject to "cyber attacks on a small number of Quanta servers" but that there's "no material impact on the company's business operation.

Did not Tim Cook just play the part of a burglar in yesterday's event? Seriously, any theft should be condemned. Rumors about products are one thing, but this is wrong to post even though other sites mighto_O. MacRumors, I think it is the principal of the thing.

4 usb-c ports is better IMO. Cleaner. Less clutter of different types of cords in my backpack, etc. And if the MagSafe makes it so there are only 3 usb-c ports then that’s lame. Hopefully it’s optional and the other end of the MagSafe is usb-c going into the power brick, that way you could just use only usb-c if you want to.

Not if it costs a USB4 port; It makes more sense for a magsafe that's USB-C compatible so Macbook Pro users keep 4 USB4/Thunderbolt 4 ports + HDMI 2.1 port + SD/CFExpress card reader.

That can be valid, but it seems for some reason Apple can't or doesn't want to have 4 thunderbolt ports on M1 macs, as evidenced in the M1 Mac Mini. Plus regular macbooks always had only 2 pesky usb-c/thunderbolt ports anyway, if adding magsafe counts as an extra, it has to be win/win no matter how you see it.

Pretty much every major (and a whole lot of minor) ransomware attack gets widely reported on locally and nationally. A simple google search string of "ransomware attacks in + year" will produce myriad examples of attacks reported on in varying levels of detail. Unfortunately, they are becoming a common occurrence. Just because it's Apple this time isn't reason for MR to clutch pearls, catch the vapors, and act as if a news worthy event isn't occurring in it's sphere of interest.

So for those of you that want mag safe back, so did i until I bought a magnetic connector on Amazon. Works beautifully with USB-C.
Also glad i bought the M1 Powerbook that still has the Touchbar.

I really hope the new keyboard shipping with the iMac isn't an indication of where the MacBook Pro is headed. The corners just look cartoonish and actually cut into the keys.

classic apple...

How the keyboard works when typing is secondary to “how it looks” for them
