Yes. you have to go in person. I tried this morning over chat and here is what the CS Chat Representative told me:
However, I went to the store and was able to place the order for a pair with store pickup for 04/20. As you can see, the store pickup estimated date match what the CS Chat person told me.
Fantastic, thank you! I will go. And it seems if I buy the $200/year membership it will cover AppleCare+ for both displays and allow me to return them if Apple releases a new one in June.

Ahh interesting! So that would get you to June 4th or 5th (from April 20th) right? My goal would be to get to WWDC to make sure they don't announce a new display.

Correct but it works for me as I'm not going with another display even if they announce a better one. I'm already pushing my wallet limits with a pair of ASDs and pretty sure if they announce a better display, it's not going to be cheaper than the ASD.

I hope there's no wobble but I suppose that'll be the vesa stand rather than the display

Just mąkę sure you get a good and sturdy VESA stand. Personally I have been using Ergotron LX since 2011 and still looks like new and it has very little wobble with duals LG 32UN880-D displays.

Glad you were able to order the monitor!
Keep in mind that Elite and Elite Plus programs are being discontinued on 5/3/2022 so the only way to get a longer return period in the future will be through their yearly $200 Total Tech membership (60 days) which comes with monthly AppleCare for all Apple purchases.

I wish the people at Best Buy in my region were as helpful! Unfortunately both I went to just said they're listed as Unavailable in the inventory. Not sure if all of the early orders really all gone or if you need to get lucky with what employee you speak to.

I think all early access orders took the whole current inventory down. Remember these are early access orders so inventory is very limited. Also, while my order is still showing April 20th as in store pickup date, I can't say for sure that it's going to happen 100%. I have my reservations regarding this whole "early access" order process and that is why I haven't cancelled my order with Apple.
I ordered from Costco on Saturday and it is set to be delivered on Tuesday. One thing I noticed in the order invoice is this:Studio Display is available at Costco for $1499 (members only)

All monitors sold at Costco have 90 days returns. Also, if you check on the Studio Display Warranty & Service section you will see the 90 Days Return Policy.

Does anyone else have a tilt+height adjustable order at Best Buy that seems to be pending cancellation? Best Buy had a day near launch where stock was flickering for the tilt+height. They said it would ship by April 6. That day came and went and now the order says item is delayed and we’ll cancel by April 21 if no stock arrives.

Thanks for the heads up. This certainly confirm my suspicions about the order I placed with Best Buy 2 days ago for a pair of ASDs VESA Mount with in store pickup for April 20th. I'm almost sure these are not going to be there by the 20th and that's why I haven't canceled my order with Apple.

Yeah I’m probably going to bite the bullet on an apple order that will ship in late June/July if they really do cancel on the 21st at Best Buy. Crazy how hard it is it get one of these right now.
I Ordered my ASD on Day one 3/8. My ASD I am looking for is Nano-Texture with Tilt and Height Stand.
My ETA is April 7th - 14th. I didn't care since my Studio wasn't coming until the end on April. My Studio ended up shipping last week and I got it last week. Now I am waiting for my Studio Display. The ETA has not changed but still Processing.. Since I have gotten the Studio I have been checking the stores near me for same display and nothing. I could of got the just tilt last week but looking for height and tilt. What is my chance this will arrive this week? Or I will find in-store?

If you've been watching, Apple is bringing these out in model spurts....first Standard Tilt stock, now Nano Tilt stock. The nano hasn't been moving like the standard did as those are all sold out. My best guess is that the next round will be Standard Tilt/Height, then Nano Tilt/Height, the both VESAs afterwards. It appears as though they are trying to gauge in-store demand since there are 6 models of the display and want to stock accordingly in the future.

I sure hope you're right. I want a tilt/height standard so bad but it seems to be about as unobtainable as a VESA nano texture for whatever reason.
I thought I posted about Best Buy a couple days back, but not seeing my post. Anyway, they have been a good source lately for high-demand cameras and tech. They don't pile up a huge back-order list on launch day and rather meter them out to their site as they have shipments en-route to their distribution centers. So if you watch their site regularly or other stock tracker sites you might be able to snipe a Studio Display. Or if you physically go into a Best Buy store, a salesperson can usually order one for you even if it shows out of stock on the web. I did this with a Nikon Z9 and had it in 2 weeks form ordering while everyone who ordered later than noon on launch day at B&H is still waiting...
My Studio Display with VESA mount I ordered on March 8 thru Apple has been "preparing for shipment" for a week now. So I don't think they have really shipped out many (or any?) of the VESA mount ones yet. Standard glass for mine...

Yes, I still have some hope because my Magnolia guy at Best Buy said to me that they can surely see if they have something in stock or on the way to their distribution center before the item goes live to the public and that's why Best Buy employees can place orders for in store pickup as soon the items are on the way to the distribution center or are already in the distribution center. Now, those in store pickup dates are estimated dates, not set in stone as the items are still on the way to the distribution centers. I know others ordered the VESA Mount Standard Glass last week from Best Buy with store pickup for April 14th so most likely by the end of the week we should see some popping up in this thread if they really got them by the promised date.

I just had a chat with a Best Buy representative that assured me my ASDs VESA Mount will be ready for pickup by April 20th. She said "the product has been reserved at the sourcing location. The transfer will move forward prior to the requested ship date to store". Hopping for the best 🙂

According to some reviews, the Amazon stand is almost identical to the Ergotron LX, at least the silver one. In fact, some Amazon stand users get the Ergotron LX Arm Extension for their Amazon stand.
I got my Ergotron LX like 11 years ago. By that time it was the only one available of that kind.
