Quick question - if I buy the $10 in-app purchase to unlock it, will that carry across all of my devices? I have an iPhone and an iPad, plus my kids have iPod touches.

As long as you've included them on your family account. It says in the description that Family Sharing is a "Yes" so you should be good to go.

The 60% included legitimate purchasers who installed in on more than one device as they are entitled to do, so is meaningless.

It's an excellent game, currently my favourite on iOS after The Room series. Absolutely worth paying for.

In NorCal - App Store on my phone was still showing Notify, then I force-quit the App Store & relaunched & it changed to Get & let me download it - YMMV...

This worked. I force quit the AppStore and came back. Now it is letting me download it.

So can someone explain to me what for is internet connectivity exactly used for in this game. I simply refuse to purchase this game until they drop the always on requirement. This game is useless for me otherwise. When I commute I don't have internet access. When I don't commute then, well, I'm busy.

Agreed. Airplane rides / subway rides are the only time I really play games on my phone, it's a nice break actually. If i have wifi/service, there are a hundred other things I would prefer/need to do than play a game.

Downloading now, definite purchase for me I'm a big old Nintendo fanboy. I buy all Nintendo systems, indeed I still have every one, including several varieties of each handheld release, they're all set up in my office with the rest of my consoles (bar the current generations, those are downstairs hooked up to the OLED) and they all still get played.

Anyone else stuck on the launch screen saying come back when you have a better data connection. Come on! I'm on 4G 4 bars and the game downloaded all 173MB in under 10 seconds from the App Store.

Are we saying their servers can't cope with the always on connection?

How much data usage is this going to use up of my allowance?

I've been dying for a good iOS game and I was all set to buy this one sight unseen on launch day. But the news of that always-on internet connection thing... It's gotten to the point where it's easier to pirate games than to buy them, because when you pirate them you don't have to deal with BS DRM like this!

They wouldn't be enforcing BS DRM like this if it weren't for all of the bloody pirates not paying for things in the first place.

Super Mario Run is now available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, becoming the first official smartphone and tablet game to feature the iconic Nintendo character. The game is a free download with a $10 in-app purchase required to unlock all 24 courses spanning six worlds.

The classic endless runner is designed for one-handed gameplay. Mario runs forward automatically as players tap to jump, collect coins, pounce on Goombas, avoid obstacles, and reach the flagpole at the end of each course before the timer runs out. Ultimately, Mario must rescue Princess Peach from the infamous Bowser.

Mario automatically vaults over small obstacles, including Goombas, while players can tap over enemies to perform a vault jump. As the levels get more difficult, players will be tasked with performing long jumps, walking over blocks that launch Mario in a particular direction, and other challenges.

Mario can jump off walls and perform a number of stylish moves as players aim to collect pink or purple challenge coins along the way. Challenge coins are often placed near ledges or other difficult to reach areas, requiring an element of skill and precision to collect them all.

A challenge mode called Toad Rally allows players to compete with friends or strangers to see who can obtain the highest score. Players must collect coins and perform stylish moves as usual to attract the largest crowd of Toad spectators in order to win. There is no flagpole in this mode, so players keep running until time runs out.

Toad Rally requires Rally Tickets, which can be acquired in a variety of ways, such as clearing worlds or through bonus games in your own kingdom.

There is also a Kingdom Builder mode, enabling players to create their own kingdom and customize it using coins and toads gathered in Toad Rally, which become part of the kingdom. Placing certain buildings can unlock bonus mini-games and characters such as Luigi, Yoshi, and Toad.

Due to piracy and security concerns, Super Mario Run requires an internet connection to play. iOS devices must be connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network during gameplay, largely ruling out usage on airplanes or subways. It is also a blow to SIM-less iPhone and iPod touch users when Wi-Fi is unavailable.

Super Mario Run signifies a change in stance for Nintendo, which for years refused to consider releasing its popular franchises such as Mario, Pokémon, and The Legend of Zelda on smartphones and tablets, instead limiting the titles to its own consoles such as the Wii and Nintendo 3DS.

Apple and Nintendo have been aggressively marketing the game since it was unveiled in September, with prominent App Store banners, teaser videos, and an on-stage demo on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Some analysts believe Super Mario Run could top summer phenomenon Pokémon Go in downloads, but not revenue.

Super Mario Run is rolling out now on the App Store in more than 151 countries. The game can also be demoed at Apple retail stores.

No play without an internet connection? Pass.

Where I live it is easy to lose wireless. This is a no go for me.

There are other games that I will support.

What's the point of this? Just charge me $10 right away instead of surprising me.

Just guessing here but it would give them the option to charge another $10 next year for six more worlds under the same app name.

How long has this been in development? The first two things I see:
  • A help menu (that I accidentally tapped) where they ask if you want a 'customer service inquiry' - should obviously be 'enquiry'.
  • The worse ever country picker that doesn't use the standard iOS rubber banding/momentum, which should be totally unnecessary anyway given the regionality of the App Store.
Deleted. Was going to pay the unlock fee and give it a shot but nah.
Inquiry is correct.

It looks fun, but as I expected it won't run on my ageing, but still functioning, iPhone 4S.

So wait, can I share this with my family like other paid apps? Or will each of us have to buy it for our own Apple ID?

I don't think so. Usually IAP's won't transfer over. Case in point, I unlocked all the stories in Minecraft: Story Mode for my kids, but I did it on my phone. When they tried to "restore purchase" the IAP's, nothing happened. I had to buy it thrice over for them.
