Man, my generation must have been super skilled back in the day to not need auto-run and auto jump! (I'm 31, fyi).

Working for me, some initial URL blank pages when trying to register a new Nintendo account but all sorted with an app restart and within 2 a few seconds.

Amazing! It's like my childhood just became HD. So good! Smooth server access so far...

Your childhood being what? Super Mario Bros Wii? 'Cause this isn't any more a Mario game than Smash was Final Fantasy just because they added Cloud as fighter. This is a one-button on-rails pseudoplatformer.

The auto-run isn't about skill as it is about making this a 1-handed game. That part makes sense to me.

However I agree on the auto-jump. That seems to be dumbing it down.

FYI...

I played with turning on airplane mode in various stages. It will throw up a notice about not being connected in the main screens, but once you're in a level, it doesn't matter, you can be offline, pause and unpause, and play the game. So it's not continuously using data.

So, the full game is a stupid in-app purchase, meaning that every single family member has to pay $10 to play the game. Nice way to circumvent the profit loss that family sharing would've caused.

Not buying it.

Damn, the name of the app appears as MARIO RUN (yes, with uppercase all the way). My OCD is telling me to delete this ASAP.

The tutorial is complete crap. Now it's downloading something.

The graphics don't look amazing. It was cool watching Bowser in his flying thing, memories.

But nothing more, I won't purchase the full game. Deleting as soon as it tells me to pay to continue.

This is what the game menu looks like:

Haha, no you wont

How long has this been in development? The first two things I see:
  • A help menu (that I accidentally tapped) where they ask if you want a 'customer service inquiry' - should obviously be 'enquiry'.
  • The worse ever country picker that doesn't use the standard iOS rubber banding/momentum, which should be totally unnecessary anyway given the regionality of the App Store.
Deleted. Was going to pay the unlock fee and give it a shot but nah.

Who the hell cares about that? Give me the damn game to play, this is not a QA department.

Crashes immediately at the Nintendo screen. iPhone SE running 10.1.1. Tried deleting and redownloading, restarting device. No luck.

Everyone should care about that. It's the first thing people see and experience about Nintendo. Most people (today's teens and younger) downloading this game won't even remember what Nintendo is anymore. Five different screens to read, one which is a pain to navigate, before you can play the game isn't a great start.

Seems like it's written for small children. Auto-everything rubbish. All hype. Don't waste your time.

And no landscape mode!? WTF.

I...wait...Super Mario Run is launching today for the first time. Where are you getting 4th and 5th from?

I think they mean shameless cashgrab and mediocre endless runners based on retro game nostalgia. I'm assuming you never suffered through the shenanigans of either of the Sonic Dash games or Sonic Runners.

Received some messages on WhatsApp and now the game doesn't have sound.

Edit. Actually, I lost all sounds on my iPhone.

oh no they didn't use your preferred word! deleted!!

The missus downloaded it so I gave it a try. Awful. Perhaps it's because I've been playing Mario games longer than some people on this forum have been breathing, but the dissonance in operation is unbelievably jarring. Add on a $10 purchase for an endless runner with always-connected DRM? Hard pass. Mrs Grey declined as well.
I agree. Guess it's cause I "grew up" with original Mario and Nintendo system, but I just don't find this version fun at all. :(
