Problem with SuperDrive Update 2.1

Hi all,

Sorry if this has already been answered, but everytime I startup my 15" MacBook Pro Core Duo, I get the following error message in a SuperDrive Update window:

"No Updatable Devices Found
No devices were found that require this firmware update."

Yet when I look in my Installed Updates List, it shows "SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1" in the list. Anyone know what this could be, and how I can fix it?

And while I'm on it, for some reason everytime I startup, my clock is 4 hours behind. Yet once I Open Date & Time, it automatically corrects itself. wtf??

Thanks in advance...

here's the solution

my boss's MBP had the similar problem. DVD loads fine, but CDR doesn't read or burn.

called Apple Support. here's the solution that helped the CDR read/burn now:

trash the user's preferences (preferably in a diff account).

it's strange, but there's some preference file that's making the Superdrive act finicky. plus this is assuming that the firmware actually went thru fine (no restart, etc.)

now, remember to backup the preference folder, cuz there're lotsa important info you may need, e.g., Mail, etc.

hope that helps. and big thumbs down to Apple for this faulty firmware.

This update process sucked mainly because there were a batch of other software updates that required reboot, and they were trying to shutdown the superdrive update so the system could reboot! i stopped it in time..that would suck.

Something wrong with this update

I installed the update. Now everytime I restart my computer I get a dialog telling me there are no Drives to Update. ...? Weird. Plus, I tried playing a DVD, and I've never had trouble playing DVDs before, but wouldn't you know it... my DVD just kept spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and my MBP Core Duo wouldn't read it.

Update broke burning capabilities?

Did anyone else do the update and now can no longer burn DVD's?
I've only tried DVD+R's, but I burnt 5 of the same kind last week. Since the update the verification always fails and the dvd's aren't mounted on the desktop!

hey, could be a little bit more specific, please? i'm not quite sure what you're talking about in your directions, and I'm unable to burn CD-Rs!

Is this firmware update available anymore? The link to the apple support site no longer works, and I cannot find it via any searches (there are a lot of superdrive updates, but not for the MacBook Pro).

I want to update my firmware as a last ditch effort to help my superdrive which will no longer accept/burn CD-Rs.

I still have it on my MBP, but I think it only runs on 10.4. When I tried to run it again, it just silently crashes.

Update: Of course, I did replace my drive with a slightly different model due to all the problems it was giving me, so no wonder it wouldn't run. Although, it may still be incompatible with 10.5.
