Well my Samsung TV just popped and stopped, I could smell a slight electrical burn. I think literally a bug has got inside and shorted it

But in absence of TV now @Dave245 has kept me amused with his decision swings, only if we could somehow turn this in to some green electricity generation

@LeeW topped it with this 😁

I kind of want to shake you, I wonder how much of the indecision you show on here translates into your life in general.

Too funny :)

I’m glad I’ve been of entertainment, I aim to please LOL.

Let's be realistic here though, yes it may look like an iPad on the front, but it will still be relatively 'fat' at the back for all the components and cooling unless they go for the XDR display type back of holes all over. That may shave a bit off but I am pretty sure they will still allow ram access.

All we are seeing at the moment is the 'artists' impressions so who knows what it really looks like.

I don’t know. They removed the ram door for the iMac Pro already, and the smaller one doesnt have one either. And if it’s getting thin and light they'll have a nice excuse to sell these juicy upgrades.

If Apple goes completely to ARM, I think it will be over for many developers. I really don't get what they are thinking. I think Tim Cook is truly clueless. I believe that they were intent on phasing out the Macs and going with IOS, a situation where they can milk the customers with the App store and services, and lock them in. Then the backlash came as users made it clear that they still wanted a real computer. I think now Cook thinks he can have his cake and eat it too with this idea. Just as some premier developers were starting to come on line Corel, Autodesk, Rebelle, etc... Not hard to understand why most developers just don't bother. Autodesk for example never made their premier product Revit available for Mac, and just got around to getting AutoCad to work. Corel for the first time had released their signature product Corel Draw for Mac... and now this? I don't see a good end here for any kind or professional users. I am sorry but Procreate, nice as it is, is not PAINTER or DRAW, and I doubt Corel is going to bother any more.

When Steve Jobs came up with this IOS scheme, it was when they thought they could force the so called "Post PC era." Hello Tim, in case you haven't noticed Microsoft fought back with a purpose and quite successfully. This is the end for me I think, and I am not impressed with the so called "power" of a mobile chip.

Edit for spelling.

Slightly off-topic but...
can I say I love this thread and what it has grown into? This has become my favorite place in the whole forum. People using different devices (Surface, Dell, Lenovo, Apple), discussing computers. No blind fanatics nor haters. And frankly, we can also have a laugh together, which reminds me older times on the internet. @Dave245 you are a great host. Your legendary indecision is making MacRumors a better place. 😄

When I first read the iMac rumor had iPad like design, I thought they were going to add pen support and compete with the Surface Studio. Not an iMac fan, but I'm interested in seeing what they do. Glad they are finally getting rid of the fusion drive in the base model.

WWDC should be interesting. With all the rumors about Apple making ARM Mac's I'm more interested in seeing if they come out with a new Hybrid OS for touch and Desktop to replace OSX and iPadOS. If it's the same uninteresting OSX updates and slow iPadOS desktop features then I'm just not sure they are setting themselves up for the future of ARM Mac's. Might be easier for Devs to port apps to one OS that runs on ARM and Intel. Rather than trying to update two separate OS's.

I give credit to Microsoft for attempting to do their own hardware. I believe the Surface devices are great learning process for Microsoft.

However, in practice and on the market, the other OEMs have been doing a great job lately, especially at the price points Microsoft is aiming for their Surface Products. Of course, Microsoft doesn't release the Surface products in my country, so what I'm seeing are imported ones with highly inflated price and no warranty. Meanwhile, HP, Dell, Asus, and Lenovo have local presence and service centers, and the ultrabook segment is really competitive with great products from everyone. The only thing that might be the Surface's selling point is the lack of bloatware.

I think that country is indeed an important factor. In the country where I live, Japan, Surface devices are incredibly overpriced. I bought mine when I went home in Europe for a visit to my family. Conversely, Apple products which tend to be relatively affordable in Japan, are very expensive in Europe.

I disagree. For me, the major selling point of Surface is form factors nobody else is doing.

For example, the Surface Book - a fully detachable laptop - doesn't have a single competitor. It is the only device that does this (making it the perfect device for me).

The Surface Studio - a fully articulated AIO with drafting table abilities - is, again, unique in its design. I believe the only similar device is the Lenovo A940.

Even the Surface Pro has become a rarity - a desktop OS 12.9" Windows tablet with kickstand. OEMs have almost completely abandoned this market.

These form factors are now only served with any real commitment and ongoing support by the Surface line. The OEMs seem to have all settled on convertible laptops rather than detachables.

Take Apples 'Think Different' claim and make a mockery of it, that is what Microsoft is doing right now as it's them that are thinking different for the reasons @The_Interloper has stated.

Sure, each device may not be suited to the masses but for me, that is the point, Microsoft is trying to shake things up and not only produce more of the obvious devices out there that hundreds of others are already doing.

The Neo and Duo, for example, might work, might not but Think Different!

hahaha, I feel caught red-handed 😂

It's fantastic in this subforum for sure

Very much agree, we all have very strong and diverse opinions here, yet there is never any personal attack or attempt to derail the myriad conversations. Personally I'm done with some aspects of MR. If you don't agree with a select few and are negative towards Apple they will literally swarm and dissect your posts line by line.

Nobody needs that as it's for the most part simply personal opinion. Worse still many here have been proved to correct in time. What some didn't take into account is that we were also fans of the Mac. Some with multiple decades of use behind them. To this day I still use Mac's for home use, equally I did draw a line in the sand some time back professionally...

That said I thank you all for dealing with my rants in a manner that many others could well learn from. After all there's no real discussion without an opposing side. This what makes the corner of MR fun with a spot of humour.

Right here and now at home we have; Acer, Asus, Huawei, Mac, MSI, OneMix, Surface, and that's the notebooks, so a real mixed bag, with the Mac still having the largest single number :)

The Think Different campaign I believe was to openly encourage Apple's own teams to think well beyond the average, which they did in the day. Microsoft isn't dependant on consumer sales, nor is Surface prime revenue stream. This allows the Surface team to innovate and take the risk as once did Apple. The results after some time have proved be not only stylistically interesting also genuinely solid performers offering solid solutions.

Apple seems either indifferent or afraid to bring an exciting well developed desktop OS device to market. Yes it does stretch itself occasionally, equally it also then gimps the products out the box; Trashcan, Butterfly Keyboard, Touch Bar, cooling anybody etc. TBH the likes of the Surface Book & Studio was something that I once only imagined Apple could pull off, same as Touch on the desktop OS.

Bottom line Apple focused on the dollar, itself and the shareholders. I miss the old Apple, equally Tim Cook is a fantastic CEO and has absolutely delivered for Apple and it's shareholders. Sadly to the cost of some of us who just wanted that Think Different philosophy to remain in place...

New iMac is inbound (hopefully) I expect a visual refresh and updates as per expectation, equally would Apple now dare to Think Different and present AMD CPU with Nvidia graphics, solid cooling and reasonable access for cleaning/upgrades, nor charge an arm and a leg for one...

Also time for MS to push the Studio as that too has to be coming up for a refresh, if not just CPU & GPU. A larger base with more cooling capacity and a more powerful GPU would be the order of the day :) I honestly wish Apple would subvert my expectations and blow the mind as it once did with the Mac...

Me, I'm waiting on Surface Neo, until then My OneMix UMPC holds the throne as the ultimate portable, baring SteveJUAE as he's just got the new model with 10th Gen quad core 👍

I am expecting us all to be surprised with the new iMac, not in every way. Tim's lust for services along with a renewed need for more customers, not higher prices for the products the masses want to buy will, I hope, see a new iMac that is not necessarily cheaper than what they have today, but more in line with the market in that the components will be up to date and modern. Not lagging way behind everyone else.

I know the iMac is old now, but it’s imo still the best value you get out of any Mac Apple sells. Even with its older CPUs it’s a great machine. It’s not like Intel improved noticeably in that regard over the last years...
Also: the screen is still amazing and pretty much unmatched by anything generic you can buy for PCs. The case is a bit big and we all know it by know, but who cares, it places on a desk and sits there forever 😃

It just needs the title changed to 'old guys rant thread', am I right old guys?
My middle son just had a baby girl with his Itailain GF in Rome

With friends at a dinner party (just before lock down) they asked what do you want to be called being grandparents soon

My wife replied "nonna" Italian for grandmother, then they asked me, so I said "GG", they said "GiGi" that's not Italian ?

I said no GG for Grumpy Git :D
