Fellow old guard here

Are most of you still using an iPhone or have you switched to android?

I’m still with iPhone, I have the 11 Pro Max. I’m going to order the Surface Duo when it comes available.

I was going to get the Note 20, that was before the Duo was brought forward for release. I liked the look of the Duo from the moment I saw it. I’m looking forward to trying it out.

I’ll still keep my iPhone around because of my Apple Watch. However if the Duo is good, I will faze out my iPhone over time.

LOL my bad :)

But equally for the Neo and other surfaces devices these are multi-function

Personally it greats on me to replicate many aspects of another device owned (ie Smart Phone) and spend another $500- 1000 just so you can flip thru contents with more ease, especially when the other devices are more often than not are far more capable of displaying the content in the first instance. let alone other aspects on capability

I find it such a weak argument by others at times and somewhat overrated as a distinguishing factor. These are the users that would bulk at paying $200 for the best mouse or $800 for a digitizer or $1500 for a 4K screen for the best experience but pay a $1000 so they can swipe through YouTube with a bag of chips in the other hand

I agree if one only needs the capability of an Ipad then they should look no further for their computing needs

But those that need or want more eg desktop owners want a supplemental device of like myself with a 3.5kg laptop having a secondary device for travel or couch use and those that want an all round device that is multi purpose and eliminates the need to have a separate tablet

I dislike Apples lack of shades of grey and the equivalent of not acknowledging SUV's/Cross Overs etc, It's not a question of the sum of the parts or the ECO it's the fact you need all the parts is the trap. Even down to many times whats in the box is not comparable to others yet sticker prices are conveniently compared.

I like the fact that the Neo is multi adaptable to given situations and personal preference

Thank you for the long and detailed answer. I agree with you on principle. I guess the only difference between us is that I am not (yet?) convinced by the use cases of the Neo.
If the Neo was made by two ~12 inches screens it would have the footprint of a Surface Pro (slightly thicker) while having two screens. That would be great for me, close to my ideal device! But with two separate 9 inches screens...uhmm I am not sure. 9 inches screens are, well, very small! Yes, they are two but, say, you want to watch a video... You will only have a 9 inches screen. I am especially not sure about that tiny keyboard that also basically covers one of the two screens...Because of this design, anything related to productivity, except inking and pen-related stuff, will basically happen over a single screen. And a very small one. It’s a device that to me seems ideal mostly for tablet use. But Windows needs a lot of work as a touch-first OS, especially at small screen sizes. Windows 10x will perhaps help, but we still need to see how that goes. The processing power is also something that concerns me: Will Intel deliver on such a small, thin device? (see Surface Go)

I want it to work and I admire Microsoft for its innovation, but I am afraid it might be the kind of device that one loves immediately after buying, but then returns, or doesn’t know exactly what to do with it. Again, it might be that it is just not for me or that I am not “getting” it. 🙂

That was quick. 👍 So you are down to your watch, iPhone and iPad (with cracked screen)?

I priced it to sell quickly, no messing about. Also got bids on the magic mouse, Magic Keyboard, Apple Pencil and smart keyboard for the iPad, so they are all going to sell.

So yes, just the iPhone 11, Watch S5 and the cracked iPad (which is functioning fine).

You can see the crack in the middle of the screen with the impact point in the bottom left but I had to find a light background just so you can see it, in normal use you would not know it was there. So it will do until it either gets worse, dies or a better option comes along.

That's my Mac Mini sold, I am now officially Windows only, no more macOS.

How do you like being windows only now? Any software or features you are missing from macOS? For me, it is handling PDFs that makes me really hate using Windows.

I have the same volume of issues with Windows that I had with macOS just in different ways. Some things I miss in macOS and some things in Windows I can't believe are so simple that macOS was without them.

The Windows of old that I remember which ultimately kept me with Apple is gone, nothing is perfect and some here know my struggle between the two OS's but when I finally reached the point of acceptance that they are not the same and will never be equal in what they offer, all was good in the world :)

In the last couple of months though I have found solutions, some better, some not so great for everything I did on macOS.

So I am honestly really happy with where I am right now, no regrets at all at moving away from Apple and back to Windows and hardware the way I want it.

Hah! I am also on an iPhone 11 and have an old iPad Air 2 with a cracked screen!

I am considering giving Android a try, but at the moment the iPhone 11 works reasonably enough for me. Great camera, big screen, long battery, snappy, nice resell value... I often find iOS annoying but, not enough to push me away. I am very interested in the Surface Duo, but battery life and camera will need to be comparable to my iPhone 11 for me to consider switching. At a reasonable price.

I understand where your coming from but having used the GO and now my One Mix UMPC it's surprising how you adapt

Sure the old GO was no power house but being old school I have never been a lazy app closer and limiting the amount of apps open is key to GO usage

If rumors are true and will be using the new chip-set Lakefield like the Galaxy book S Intel version should make a considerable difference

Although the cool MS video shows the Neo off well they do not show the device in a stand mode, and if this is like a little fordable plate stand will be no issue with portability :)

Pick the mode you like, as there was many a comment on surface devices not being lapable, the Neo has all modes to suit any occasion/preference

Wow! It sure looks cool! 🙂
I certainly look forward to try it.
I can’t wait for something like this, or even a little bigger, with a single foldable screen!

What issues with PDF's ?

I literary edit and annotate in joint collaboration on 100's of PDF's per week using the most sophisticated Doc control and PIMM systems

I have access to over 600,000 PDF documents just for 1 project all handled with ease on my W10 laptop

All of our reports are distributed to our clients (1000's per week) on PDF's and there is not one Mac insight for 24000 employees in my company and as far as I know through out our industry (Heavy Engineering)

Pretty much same here, though still completely iOS-based for mobile and AppleTV.

I have a Mac mini, but it’s currently disconnected. I do have a Mac in my basement acting as an AppleTV movie server, but I almost never have to touch it. Otherwise, it’s Windows for my laptop and desktops (gaming desktop, work from home workstation, desktop at the office).

Now, my wife’s and kids’ laptops are Macs, however. So I guess my claim is only partial.

I completely understand. I have a custom built gaming pc that I use Windows 10 on and my 13" MBP. When I use Windows now I am actually surprised how quick and snappy everything is, and in some cases even faster than my Mac. I actually like using Firefox with true extensions more than Safari on my Mac. It is kind of nice to use Windows because it all just feels so fast and utilitarian. But then on the other side when I use my Mac I appreciate the cohesive UI design and extra polish. For most tasks, I don't notice any difference between the two systems, but like I said I deal a lot with PDFs and I use PDF Expert on my Mac which is so nice to use, whereas on my Windows PC I use some other PDF editor which can do all the same stuff but it's just not as nicely designed. I refuse to use Adobe because their software is such bloat and I hate their push for expensive subscriptions to use anything.

Started with iPhone, and switched early to Android with Samsung. Currently using an LG midrange that has proved to be capable as a stop gap after Microsoft stopped with Windows Phone. Now waiting for the Duo.

Congrats, I still have my Mac Pro circa 2013, Ipad Pro, and a original iPhone SE. Gee I look like an Apple Fan... When they are no longer usable I'll most likely give up, but I do like adventure, so I might keep on with the basic iPad, just to make my Apple case legit when I rail against them.

Try Xodo. It's available form the Windows app store. It can do things like inserting images into a PDF, rearranging PDF pages, and even combining PDFs, for free. No more paying Adobe for these basic things. :)

Just a head's up for anyone who was planning to buy one, The Surface Duo might be coming sooner than later.

I’m hoping it releases soon, but I’m also hoping that it launches in the U.K. as well as America. it depends if the network will support it over here in the U.K.

Last I checked it won't allow me to easily copy pages out of a PDF to put into an email or what not, at least not without saving those pages as a new PDF, which is annoying.

I'm currently on Giff Gaff in the U.K, i don't pay monthly for my phones i buy them unlocked. So assuming it can take the same sim card that my current iPhone 11 Pro Max has, it should work.

If they announce the Duo for pre-order the date might be a little different (like it was with the Book 3 and other devices) but it's not by much and at least it would still be available over here. I just hope they don't have it as a small release where it's only available in the US for the first 6 months or so.
