My middle son just had a baby girl with his Itailain GF in Rome

With friends at a dinner party (just before lock down) they asked what do you want to be called being grandparents soon

So similar to me, my oldest had a son recently, our 1st grandchild. I settled on Grandfather as the least offensive option to me that now makes me appear old whether I like it or not.

My wife replied "nonna" Italian for grandmother, then they asked me, so I said "GG", they said "GiGi" that's not Italian ?

I said no GG for Grumpy Git :D

GiGiSteveJUAE 😆 😆 😆 We love you 👍

Only as old as the woman you feel 😆 In the mind mid 50's and charging hard 😎

If you are a Surface user on Windows 10, v2004:
It seems that yesterday's cumulative update has quietly enabled the new Windows tablet experience (basically slightly bigger touch targets across the system, mainly due to more spacing. File Explorer in particular is now much more touch-friendly).
Oh, and the touch keyboard seems to appear more consistently when tapping over text fields.
If you are on a device like a Surface Pro or Book, try detaching the tablet from its keyboard and check your taskbar icons.

I don't know why (it's a relatively minor change) but it made me smile a little, perhaps because it was unexpected. I am glad they are still tweaking the interface to work better on touch screen devices.

It seems the Surface Duo might launch sooner than expected

To those who want a Neo. I think a don’t get this device. What do you find interesting or useful about it?
It seems too complex (and probably will be too expensive) to replace an iPad as a pure consumption device (and screens are on the small side, say, to watch a movie) and too limited to be a good surface (when you use it with a keyboard, you are basically working on the remaining tiny 9” screen. If the two screens were actually a single foldable one, I would get it. But this way...not so much. The OS will be have limitations as well. I don’t get the hype. Please tell me what I am missing!

ps: instead, the Surface Duo is very interesting. Although I still think it’s a stop-gap solution and the future of the form factor is a single foldable screen.

I'm not sure why you find it so hard to "get" this device :)

Or why it's even being compared to an Ipad.

This is the next evolution that some OEM's are taking for those that want a larger screen phone and all that affords the user, yet still remains somewhat pocketable

Given so many users have pushed the market trend of larger screen phones because of the greater consumption of media and games etc whilst on the move.

There is a demand for more real estate and solutions like the Fold and Duo are what is currently being offered

I think the Duo like many surface devices offers to those that wish to eliminate multiple devices if it fits their requirements.

Many can easily justify prices given ownership of 2 devices that replicate each other in so many ways can be avoided and combined in to one convenient device.

I think part of the reason some do not understand is the US and in part the AUS carrier construct of services supplied ie compulsory bundled minutes and sms/mms costs is not replicated elsewhere in the world

Many places sms is dying and even calls to some extent, many countries you will not receive return calls or sms, use line or whatsapp etc and it's instant conversations.

We have laughed for years where cabs/delivery/take-away drivers would let your phone ring twice to alert you only, to avoid call costs.

I comms is the way forward for many given availability of free WiFi and the more freely adopted attitude particularly in US of paying for many services and subscriptions that is actually avoided elsewhere.

Larger format phones enable many to enhance their user experience and maximize their usage as a consolidated comms and entertainment device

We are going to hold this statement against you :)

If I see 4.75242728x10^23 questions on the Duo I will be :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:..................:D

Just get it and embrace the differences else you will suck the enjoyment out of owning a new devices before it's in your hands

As soon as it’s up for pre-order here in UK I’m ordering one! The latest rumour is that it will be released soon. I hope that means in more countries and not just the US.

err...If we are talking about the Duo, I actually understand perfectly (well, as perfectly as I can understand things in general 😅). I agree with you on all the points you mentioned.
BUT...you are discussing the Surface Duo. In my original post, I wrote that I don't get the Neo (the tablet), not the Duo (the phone).

LOL my bad :)

But equally for the Neo and other surfaces devices these are multi-function

Personally it greats on me to replicate many aspects of another device owned (ie Smart Phone) and spend another $500- 1000 just so you can flip thru contents with more ease, especially when the other devices are more often than not are far more capable of displaying the content in the first instance. let alone other aspects on capability

I find it such a weak argument by others at times and somewhat overrated as a distinguishing factor. These are the users that would bulk at paying $200 for the best mouse or $800 for a digitizer or $1500 for a 4K screen for the best experience but pay a $1000 so they can swipe through YouTube with a bag of chips in the other hand

I agree if one only needs the capability of an Ipad then they should look no further for their computing needs

But those that need or want more eg desktop owners want a supplemental device of like myself with a 3.5kg laptop having a secondary device for travel or couch use and those that want an all round device that is multi purpose and eliminates the need to have a separate tablet

I dislike Apples lack of shades of grey and the equivalent of not acknowledging SUV's/Cross Overs etc, It's not a question of the sum of the parts or the ECO it's the fact you need all the parts is the trap. Even down to many times whats in the box is not comparable to others yet sticker prices are conveniently compared.

I like the fact that the Neo is multi adaptable to given situations and personal preference

Go Dave 😎

Q-6

As soon as I saw the Neo and Duo announced in October, I knew I wanted to get them. The Duo I’m very intrigued by, as a phone and a Surface Device I think it has potential to be the next category of phones.

Are most of you still using an iPhone or have you switched to android?

Still, with the iPhone, I recently moved the iPhone 11 for a bigger screen. The only reason I stick with it is due to the Apple Watch which works best for me right now.

To be fair, if I went to Android I would want to stick with a stock Android device, most likely the Pixel 4. Whilst it does have some benefits the price is pretty much the same so there is no compelling reason for me to move.
