i did indicate it was "too bad" that you dont get unlocked phones, its better to choose the phone you like, and the carrier that has the best coverage and options in your area.

voice quality - arguable, telus sucks in canada but it could of been the crappy dumb phones i had to use for a while

security, sure ill believe you on this since i did see an article about the gsm encryption being hacked

you did forget the advantages than GSM provide, and IMO i believe they outweigh what cdma provides

in the last month ive used about 30 dffrent phones (just to test), i would have to pay every time i switched numbers if i were on cdma,

haha you obviously don't know anything about verizon or CDMA.

I'd love to know where the ATT to Verizon switchers are from. I'm guessing the majority are from CA & NY, areas where ATT really is horrible. I can't complain much about service in the DC area. I have no reason to switch.

iPhone 4 users?

I have been asking all of my friends the same question.
The interesting thing is almost everyone that was NOT using the iPhone 4 says yes they would switch (due to dropped calls) But if the user already had the iPhone 4 with AT&T they are happy with the service.
Im in the same boat, since I got the iPhone 4 all of my service issues with AT&T has gone away

AT&T works great where I am. I had some dropped call issues at my new place and used the app the let them know. Things corrected themselves a week or so later and I can't remember the last time I dropped a call. Heck, I even took a call while snowboarding a few weeks ago. I was listening to music while riding and was quite surprised when my phone rang.

I see the VZW thing as a grass is greener. I'm sure many people will move and they will have their own problems.

I think better for everyone is if this can hopefully spur on some service price competition.

Switch in February, no.

Switch in June,July? Depends on the data plan pricing and how much for the wifi hotspot feature.

How can anyone definitively make the switch without knowing the price of those features?

Why does MacRumors just create their own survey and be down with it.

Do we really need another 20 page thread about how Verizion/AT&T sucks.

I'm personally looking forward to Apple releasing their own Skype like service/App and then allowing the enduser to buy a Data only plan from the carriers.

Imagine paying only $50 for an unlimited data plan!

please, like ATT is great.
Whenever I've roamed with them while visiting the states I have not hand any problems. I pity people stuck on CDMA carriers especially if they like to travel around the world as they cannot use their phones in more than a handful of countries. Europe is out of the question as is Australia.

With my iPhone3GS or any future HSPA iPhone, I can use it all over the US, Mexico, Japan and Europe.

I'll probably consolidate on VZ for a FiOS quad play once they get an LTE iPhone*, but the CDMA phone isn't compelling enough IMHO. Maybe if I was Woz I'd pick up a VZ iPhone on top of my AT&T one...

* Of course by then, AT&Ts LTE network might also be deployed.

NYC
no issues whatsoever (except i don't get service underground)

no plans to switch. (definatly not to verizon anyway.. who tries to give you a /29 with a /24 mask... diff department i know.. but it show what they know about a network..)

You guess right. AT&T sucks in both the Bay Area and NY. This is also where I would guess the highest density of iPhone users are.

Wow, I've heard about how bad AT&T is, but never would have thought that customer satisfaction is THAT low!!

I'm glad I live in the UK and haven't had to deal with AT&T. :)

AT&T is not that bad. Again it depends on where you live. In three years with iPhones on ATT I can count on one hand the number of dropped calls I've had.

I also believe that a large percentage of those leaving for Verizon will sell thier iPhones and they will end up back on ATT.

I'm not switching.

Ok...I don't feel like looking up the actual numbers, but last i remember, the iphone is seriously dominating the smartphone market. So, you take a data intensive phone like that and put millions on one network, how do you expect the service to be? I personally believe that verizon is going to be shocked when they can't live up to the "we're better than AT&T" standard that everyone is expecting from them. Folks will switch and realize that all phones and all networks drop calls. Some are just a little better than others in certain areas.

So for all those that are switching...enjoy spending that $150 or whatever it is to break your contract. Also, enjoy not being able to talk and use data at the same time. Remember, the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Same deal here in Houston TX. Service is fine in a lot of parts of the city, but where I live (3 miles from Downtown) I often drop out of 3G and EDGE and end up with GPRS (the little "O" symbol) or no data at all. Often my phone doesn't ring and messages go straight to voice mail when I am at home. AT&T says it's because I live indoors and there are a lot of trees near by...

Many people are able to get a free microcell in that case.

hold on!

you mean on Verizon you can actually make a phone call on your iphone!!

that is unbelievable, I only thought the devices were for browsing and listening to music

cant make calls from my house or my office

scott in san francisco

Will you be able to talk and surf on Verizon's LTE network? If so I'm switching over once the LTE iPhone is made available.

Coverage holes

I live in San Diego and get 0 to 2 bars at home. 80% of my calls from home drop at some point. I had been a happy AT&T/Cingular customer for 10 years and scoffed when people complained about their coverage...until I moved into my apartment in San Diego. My AT&T contract is done in a couple months, and I will be one of those that switch to Verizon because I have lived in this AT&T-coverage hole for the past year and a half. I'm guessing that all networks will have some holes, even in large cities, but I can't continue to stand on a chair pressed up to the patio window to try to get that second bar in order to make a call from home.
