As far as I'm concerned, this survey is meaningless. Within a few months, we will get actual numbers. Then, we'll see the impact. Hopefully, those switchers will really examine if it's worth it and when would be the ideal time. For many, it could be a very expensive move.

For me, in Minnesota, ATT has been great. Since 2005, I have been a customer. Rarely have I had a dropped call. Interesting, the few dropped calls have been while talking to someone on Verizon!

Like others, talking and using data simultaneously is a oft used feature. In time, Verizon could get this feature, but I use it daily.

I'm not switching. If I didn't have unlimited data then yes I would....

I'm glad I have unlimited data with AT&T though because their data speeds are much faster where I'm located. Verizon and Sprint crawl.

I live in Miami and have had various iPhones (currently iPhone 4) for the past 3 years. I have had horrible service on AT&T. Service is regularly slow or non-existant (either NO SERVICE prompt or no bars). I can't speak to Verizon's quality of service, but it can't be worse that what I've experienced.

Looking at the graph, I think they meant 16% and not 26%. Huge difference.

macrumors has the article link is wrong.

it should be 16% of total at&t customers would switch to verizon. while 26% refers to iphone owners who would switch to verizon.

Excellent news all around.
Verizon picks up new subscribers.
Bandwidth is freed up for the many new Android phones AT&T is adding since Apple eases up on control Apple exerts, as it is now split between two carriers.

Everyone benefits.

Bye everyone... thanks for freeing up the bandwidth and GSM cell capacities for those of us who are staying where we are.

I personally don't like Verizon as a company. I don't like how if you want to increase your TXT plan or even add one or increase your minutes you have to agree to a new 2 year contract from the point forward. If I am going to agree to a contract I should be getting something worth while like a discounted phone.

If these numbers hold true, then things will get better for ATT and us users that are sticking around.

Did not know that Verizon stuck it to their customers that wanted changes to their plans in that way. No very customer friendly; but a heck of a way to keep people trapped for another two years.

I'd love to know where the ATT to Verizon switchers are from. I'm guessing the majority are from CA & NY, areas where ATT really is horrible. I can't complain much about service in the DC area. I have no reason to switch.

Also in the DC area with no problems. A couple years back spent some time in SF and saw no real problems while I was there.

The only reason that I would remotely consider switching is if I were a subway rider here in the DC area. Verizon still leads the way in the tunnels.

Since I have no problems with ATT, the crippled iPhone 4 service on Verizon and lack of rollover minutes are deal breakers for me here in any switch over....

I hope 50% of ATT customers go to Verizon so my data speed would not lag anymore.

Proving once again that sometimes others besides Apple do benefit.

In our lab, the people with Verizon can make/receive calls with no issue. However, us chumps with ATT have one bar and have to stand by a window (or go outside) to do the same thing.

For me, considering my METT-T ((Mission, Enemy, Terrain, Troops & Time Available), I may have to leave ATT. This is not to say they are bad, but for me they are.

I think the numbers they're getting on this survey are questionable at best. While I originally thought that a lot would switch, everyone I see questioned says "No", and that they're expecting AT&T performance to get better once all those "other" i4 people switch...

Its just liked jumping from a Toyota Camry to a Honda Accord. You are getting essentially the same thing (not including of course the Voice/Data issue.) Of course keep in mind that some areas have better signals for some providers. This was a general statement.

AT&T is either great or horrible. There's really not much in-between. At home, I get five bars and 6 Mbps. My calls never drop. But at work, I get one or two pretty marginal bars and nearly every call drops. The data clocks in at less than 1 Mbps.

Verizon is more consistent. Never exceptionally good, but good enough to make a call just about anywhere. And their data network tops out a lot lower than AT&T's.

For most people, coverage is more important than speed, so I imagine AT&T losing iPhone exclusivity is going to hurt them quite a bit. Let's hope this makes AT&T get competitive and work on their network.

You know? Security isn't mentioned much, but ...

There is at least some minority of us here in the U.S. who have issues using AT&T because of their willingness to work so closely with the NSA (even letting them install equipment and place staff INSIDE AT&T central office buildings). Basically, whenever I use an AT&T circuit for communications, wired or wireless, I assume I have *zero* privacy - because a copy is likely either A) being archived someplace, or B) passed along to NSA agents for some type of filtering or processing.

Do I have "something to hide"? Well, no, I don't really think so -- but I also like having a reasonable expectation of privacy during my phone calls AND an assumption that just because I didn't encrypt a given chat session or email, it's not being read/reviewed by some unknown 3rd. party.

Especially these days, there's so much nonsense going on in the name of the "war on terror", you never know what you'll say or do that flags you in some manner! (Heck, Wal-Mart is even putting up videos all over, reminding shoppers to report anything potentially suspicious. Did our intel give us some warning that terrorists plan on doing a lot of Wal-Mart shopping?)

You obviously don't have a clue about wireless technology, because CDMA is far superior as far as voice quality and security goes. Any hacker wannabe can listen to your GSM calls because the security is so poor.

This survey was taken before the Verizon iphone was announced. People love to complain. I think that the number of people who said they would change carriers - when it wasn't possible - is much greater than the number of people who will actually change - now that is possible.

The only reason I'd stick with GSM is because it's global, but since AT&T makes it nigh on impossible to use the iPhone with a foreign SIM, that's just not a reason anymore. Beyond the chance that I might unlock the stupid thing myself, AT&T's service just doesn't give me a reason to stick with them.

you mean on Verizon you can actually make a phone call on your iphone!!

that is unbelievable, I only thought the devices were for browsing and listening to music

cant make calls from my house or my office

scott in san francisco

Yes you can, but only if you're not going through email or browsing the web at the same time. I feel for you San Franciscoans, but for me (in Phoenix) CDMA on Verizon is definitely not the answer.

In other news, 11% (26% * 41%) of AT&T iPhone customers are either stupid (haven't realized they'll be out another $200 for a nearly-identical phone) or have too much money to care.

i live near pittsburgh and love my att service. no way i'm switching. especially since i'm getting unlimited data plan for $20 my buddy just went to a driod on verizon and still just 3g not the new 4g and he's paying $29.99 for data. thats on a family plan but his wife didn't even want a data plan but they had to give her phone a data plan too so the put the cheapest one on her phone.

I love it when people keep throwing the Voice/Date card around but you forget one thing.. Every time you use both Voice and Date you using more power and that means your battery do not last as long as if you use one at a time.. I care more about reserve my battery then using both Voice/Date..

I like to know how seeing I am paying $30.00 on AT&T. I will pay the same amount on Verizon as I do on AT&T...

no one says you have to use both at the same time, i don't that often but if i'm arguing with a friend over some fact its nice to put them on speaker and look up the truth. and i have chargers everywhere so i NEVER worry about battery life.

Hoping AT&T will throw us a bone

I have a crappy, dying 3G (not even a 3Gs) and I'd like to upgrade to a 4. My contract has expired, so I could switch. My unlimited data plan and simultaneous voice/data compels me to stay with ATT, even though I don't really love the service.

What I want is a break from the $199 so I can renew my contract and get an iPhone 4. The discounts on ATT's site are all for new subscribers, nothing for renewing subscribers. They still have to pay $199 for the phone.
