jumping from one crap boat to another crap boat? Yeah, no thanks. I'm sticking to ATT... oh sorry one sec lemme submit this onto mr while on a phone call.

AT&T is either great or horrible. There's really not much in-between. At home, I get five bars and 6 Mbps.
I've had 5 bars plenty of times here in Los Angeles. Have never - ever seen anything close to 6 Mbps. Always maxes out at 1.5. anywhere I've been. Where's the speed AT&T??

Vacation in Cuba

king tj posts: "There is at least some minority of us here in the U.S. who have issues using AT&T because of their willingness to work so closely with the NSA (even letting them install equipment and place staff INSIDE AT&T central office buildings). Basically, whenever I use an AT&T circuit for communications, wired or wireless, I assume I have *zero* privacy - because a copy is likely either A) being archived someplace, or B) passed along to NSA agents for some type of filtering or processing."

Hey King tj! Wanna have some fun? Text Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb to your BBF, see how long it takes the feds to show up!

I have a crappy, dying 3G (not even a 3Gs) and I'd like to upgrade to a 4. My contract has expired, so I could switch. My unlimited data plan and simultaneous voice/data compels me to stay with ATT, even though I don't really love the service.

What I want is a break from the $199 so I can renew my contract and get an iPhone 4. The discounts on ATT's site are all for new subscribers, nothing for renewing subscribers. They still have to pay $199 for the phone.

That is how it has always been. Verizon is no different..

Usually it seems like only about 1/4 of people surveyed actually do what they claim they'll do. (This is judging from past surveys about who will buy what phone, versus the actual results.) But this time could be different.

For some people it's coverage and no dropped calls.

For others it's because the rest of their family or friends are on Verizon and same-carrier calls don't take minutes away.

Similar reasons work for people who stick with ATT, of course.

Loyal att customer here.

Although I lived temporarily in the Bay Area and if that was permanent I might have to reconsider :s

Ok...I don't feel like looking up the actual numbers, but last i remember, the iphone is seriously dominating the smartphone market. So, you take a data intensive phone like that and put millions on one network, how do you expect the service to be? I personally believe that verizon is going to be shocked when they can't live up to the "we're better than AT&T" standard that everyone is expecting from them. Folks will switch and realize that all phones and all networks drop calls. Some are just a little better than others in certain areas.

That pretty much sums it up, good post. It depends on your area, personal usage etc. Will be onteresting to see how Verizon holds up. Of course they are the 2d so they could learn from the mistakes that were done in the past (which ATT could not).

It's only really that bad in major cities. San Francisco has to be the worst! I'd hqve full signal but could hardly ever get a connection. Peak hours there seem like they go 24 hrs. I bet they could use the extra bandwidth in near Silicon Valley.

Wow, I've heard about how bad AT&T is, but never would have thought that customer satisfaction is THAT low!!

I'm glad I live in the UK and haven't had to deal with AT&T. :)

To be honest... you will find that there are just as many on Verzion and all our networks that are not happy. There is always a segment of the US market that is NEVER happy and grass is always greener.

Also, given our countries size, each company has there strong areas and weak. AT&T is fine in my area... Verzion isn't bad either. But there are some area's where AT&T is weak and that feeds a very vocal group here and other places. Plus given some people are never happy... there's your 40%.

Am I the only person who has had a great experience on AT&T? It has never failed me around my home or in the city (NYC)

not switching.... i was an at$t customer before i had an iphone..... so why would i want to switch?

Leaving AT&T to get an iPhone on Verizon seems like leaving a spouse who beats you and living with a stranger. Who also beats you.

I live in central New Jersey and my service is absolutely fantastic. I would never switch to verizon, and my sister works for them!

I am among those that are AT&T iPhone customers that will leave as soon as I can get a Verizon iPhone.

More about reliability than their supposed speed. Even in downtown Grand Rapids SpeedTest reports about 1 mbps up and down, not to mention I'm often without service whatsoever.

Meh, bye AT&T. I even marked all the spots using the iPhone app that drop and now years later the service still vanishes in those spots. They clearly don't care about the area I'm in (southwest Michigan), and it shows. So now that I have a choice for the iPhone (being a developer), I'm gone.

I'll gladly try a verizon iPad instead.

After a year of numerous comparisons, I've found that if an iphone gets 5 bars, I'll pick up my 3G iPad and find it'll have 2-3 bars & drop any skype call within 4-5 minutes time.

So I either hope that either Apple puts the same antenna in the iPad as it does the iPhone, or that the Verizon will not demote the bandwidth priority of iPads.

you mean on Verizon you can actually make a phone call on your iphone!!

that is unbelievable, I only thought the devices were for browsing and listening to music

cant make calls from my house or my office

scott in san francisco

All I want is a 3G iPod that can do texts and voice.

Oh wait...

In other news, 11% (26% * 41%) of AT&T iPhone customers are either stupid (haven't realized they'll be out another $200 for a nearly-identical phone) or have too much money to care.

You do know they can just sell their existing iPhone 4 for cash?

Hmm... I wonder if that survey counts those of us who bailed on AT&T at the end of our last contract period and have just been waiting for the Verizon announcement? I've been using my iPhone 3G on TMobile for months, and the call quality is noticeably better.

Idk where you live, but Tmobile sucks so badly idk how this can be right. Some of my friends have it and all they do is complain about bad coverage and dropped calls.

The Verizon iPad 3G is basically a wifi iPad bundled with a mifi card. No 3G antenna

Ah, you live in the UK? Fancy going for a drink? (hopefully to talk about guy stuff and not just Apple...)
