These people know the X screen is larger than a plus screen yeah?

Side by side the Plus wins. Wider. More info. Long and narrow with notch does not look bigger. And bezel free? No way. Not much less than 6/7/8. Advertising makes it look smaller with more highlights. In reality there is still a lot of bezel.

All the opponents and critics of the Face ID appears to have never tried it or used it regularly.

Initially I thought it was an unnecessary gimmick too but after using it, I totally changed my mind.

The most important reason is missing:

X is much more fragile than iPhone 8. The glass body breaks when falling down and is very very expensive to replace. iPhone 8 is much more stable. Reliable consumer reports proved this big difference.

Having a notch instead of the black top bezel going all the way across is a deal breaker for you? Really?

It’s not the same damn thing. I don’t understand this argument at all. A notch is a part of the screen that cuts into content and is unevenely shaped. A bezel is just a bezel, isn’t a a part of the screen and does not cut into content. Why are you assuming that’s the same thing? How is it? It doesn’t make any sense at all.

Isn’t the back of the iPhone 8 glass as well?

I was pretty skeptical about the X but I've just gotten one (fed up with the 6s battery dying endlessly... and yes, it's already been replaced) and I absolutely love it.

Best bits: Beautiful screen, stunning pictures, FaceID is absolutely fantastic, screen coming on when you raise it/press it.

I've never liked Touch ID very much. It's failed so many times for me (especially with slightly wet fingers of course).

The only thing I really don't like about the X is the size of the screen as I prefer being able to use a phone one-handed. Reachability, once enabled, is a bit clumsy on the X. The SE is the perfect size (and design) but, alas, it's never going to get a truly great camera. :(

As for the notch? It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

That wasn't the question asked. Owners of older iPhones were asked why they had not upgraded, with one of the choices being "because my iPhone works fine." It wasn't much of a question but that doesn't mean the answers are open for interpretation. If they wanted to find out if it was because the new features weren't sufficiently compelling, then that would have been the question to ask.

The pairing of question and answer posits a causal relation - "I did not buy the iPhone X, because my old iPhone still works." I do not think it is a stretch to take this as the old iPhone still meeting the iPhone-needs of these people, and them not expecting the iPhone X to improve things sufficiently to get it.

Of course, one could come up with other scenarios to explain the connection between question and answer, such as some children whose parents refuse to buy them new iPhones while the old ones still work. I think such alternative scenarios are far less likely, but yes, opinions can differ.

A survey of 1,500 people is a joke, and not what I consider a good sampling.
not really. for 50mil population with confidence level of 95% and confidence interval of 2.5 the sample size comes to be about 1500. This makes a decent survey i guess. I have used basic sample size calculator online.

i havent upgrade my iphone cuz itsss waaayy to expensive... if ever they released a new iphone by this year & the cost is also high then might as well stay on my old iphone 7 plus till i get a better deal on the next 2019

Yes, I too would like the iPhone SEX. (The "SE" size model with the high end "X" hardware added.)

The Macintosh SE/30 should have been named the Macintosh SEx (based on Apple's naming scheme at the time)...

The sample size isn't the issue, it's the basic responses in the survey and also the fact that it only seeks out responses from those who specifically did not buy the iPhone X.

I have an iPhone X. I'm going to be getting an iPhone 8 Plus. Face ID is a pain in the ass (half the time it doesn't recognize me, and I'm basically just using my passcode now - yes, I've tried re-enrolling multiple times). Touch ID was just a better UX to me. Too many apps still have issues with that damn "home bar" (video apps not being able to hide it, etc.) - like, seriously? That bar can't be disabled?? I'm also unable to fully get used to the gestures that replaced the home button. I keep activating Siri when I intend to power off my phone. The UX is just horrible to me. The only reason I actually like the X is the OLED screen, but the UX problems I've faced are enough to make me want to "crossgrade" to an 8. A person like me would not have been included in that survey.

It all depends on the intelligence you intend to get from a survey. There's so many ways to slant a survey, even without intending to - question wording, sample selection, etc.

Yes. Don‘t ask me, why there is such a big difference. The test results made by well-respected „Stiftung Warentest“ are very clear. iPhone 8 is one of the most robust phones on the market. The results of iPhone X are poor.

I think the reason a lot of us has not upgraded our old phones are partly that the Apple marketing team has failed to convince us. Is that not their job?
Not sure if its me or Apple, but back in the back I was desperate to get every iPod, Mac and iPhone upgrade. Trust me I have spent so many hours drooling over the Apple online store. Just not the same today.

I'm in the "cant be bothered category", my 6S works just fine I think, and I will continue to think so until Apple convinces me otherwise. They still sell the 6S, so it must be good for another few years.

Large screen in the same physical sized form factor.

faceID is actually stellar and works great

Gestures make the home button feel old and dated

Look at them side by side. One looks old and dated and the other looks modern and fresh.
I was replacing the battery on my doorbell yesterday and was just thinking it looked dated and needed some kind of gesture. I tried the middle finger but that didn't work.

How unexpected - not.

I'm not buying the most expensive whatever on the market, because:
a) Too expensive.
b) No need for it because my current one still works fine.
c) Something else.

This could've been cars or washing machines.

If I was asked to participate in the survey, my answer would be Too Expensive. Now that the battery on my iPhone 6 is replaced, it works fine and my other answer would be My Phone Works Fine. For what I use my phone for, I can't justify spending upwards of $1k nor are there any features on the current lineup that want me to reconsider upgrading. If an updated SE does come out, the price for that is probably more within reason for my needs.

The whole notion of a “supercycle” was invented by the analysts to pump and dump Apple stock for a nice profit.

Yeah, and even 1500 is normally quite hard to get.
[doublepost=1520336218][/doublepost]100%: “All of the above”.

I’ve paid off my 6s. It doesn’t offer any significant features, no thermal camera, no 3d scanning or depth measurement from the dual camera, not significantly longer battery life, it’s just not more useful, they’ve added gimmicks, not features. I’ve been waiting for small bezels for a long time now, but that alone isn’t worth $1k.

It's a survey, not rocket science - quantity is hardly the issue.

You could have 5 million participants, if your sampling rules are off the survey data would still be worthless.

Too expensive. I saw the 8 Plus "refurbished" (new and absolutely pristine, but without box and accessories, must be ones that have been unboxed and returned) at Laptops Direct for £500 and thought "do I want this, or do I want to pay TWICE that and suffer the notch and Face ID just for a nicer screen, OIS at 2X and the ability to be a talking turd?". I went with the former.

Pleasingly, it means I'll probably be set for the next 3-4 years without having to worry about notch or Face ID nonsense, by which time hopefully there will be better implementations.
