Maybe I'm the only one, but the notch really doesn't bother me at all. If they can do away with it, great, but it wouldn't sway me from upgrading to an X. What has swayed me is the price. Maybe the tech in this thing truly does justify the sky high price but at the end of the day it's still just a phone that I'm only going to use for 2 years. I waited an extra year to upgrade my 6 because I was excited to see what they were going to do for the 10th anniversary and after looking at the X and the 8 I went with a 7 which is now an incredible phone considering the discounted price.

Still using my 6, was thinking about the 8 - but to be honest the 6 is still fine and I'll wait to see if the technology in the 8 and X merge into the 9 or whatever comes next.

Possibly your 6 is still really ok? My wife's was "ok" on paper - no throttling detected, but PAINFULLY, even almost uselessly slow. Replaced the battery - no change (none was expected). She is in the middle of dealing with a truckload of real problems with her mid-90s parents and finally figured she'd try an 8. Mirabile dictu, the keyboard responds when she types. Texts actually send when she touches 'send.' Google Maps traffic actually updates before she's a mile past the turn. She no longer has to let people at Starbucks go ahead at the register while her phone tries to pay. Those are real examples. My 7 is still fast enough - I didn't notice any changes vs. the 8 I had. So for me, with a 7, there really wasn't any upside that I could find (and trust me, I really did look for some while I had the 8!).

Here's a reason no one has yet brought up.

Q: What has kept you from purchasing an iPhone X?:

"I personally never would purchase ANY new iPhone because I don't want to run iOS 11".

That's a sorry state of affairs for Apple.

I've not had many problems with iOS 11.. My one and only issue with it is that Widgets are not updating on a consistent basis. Other than that, it's been solid for me. Will I welcome iOS 12? Sure but 11 has not been as bad as some have made it out to be.

Another waste-of-time survey-
Wanna know why everyone isn't buying a X?

Just go over to MacRumors.com iPhone forum and start reading through the endless threads.

The vast majority of people don't nitpick like everyone here does. Some people here are borderline obsessive over tiny details that the general public barely notice.

Where is the "because I prefer a smaller screen" reason?

Also, this companies must know that a big number of consumers want to purchase a good, powerful, long lasting smartphone in order to keep using it for years. Thats why people with iPhones like the 6S or 7 don't upgrade. It just works, and have no need of a new smartphone. And this will become the normal situation as years passes by and smartphones become each time more powerful. There will be a point where it will make no sense to replace your smartphone until it gets broken. Companies like Apple should be prepared for that moment, because it will come, eventually.

And yes, aside from all that, the X is now just too expensive.

The current power of smart phones coupled with their cost means consumers (like me) plan to keep their phones as long as is feasible.

You would be amazed at just how nice and coherent the new facial recognition paradigms are. The move away from the home button really changes the whole feel of the interface to something better than it was

And the effect of constantly beaming lasers into your eyes is...?

My iPhone 6s works fine. It will be 3yrs old this November. Though when I do finally need a new phone it will have a larger screen.

Combination of reasons for me. I love the idea of more screen real estate in the same size package as the 6 I was upgrading from (toyed with the plus models over the years, but I just don't like the feel of them in my pocket). For me, the two biggest reasons were:

1. I didn't feel like I could justify the additional cost over the 8 which will fulfill my needs perfectly adequately

2. FaceID seemed like a technology that was gonna have a whole bunch of kinks to work out at first and I figured that waiting until they've had a year to see it in the wild was a better idea.

Afternoon workshop yesterday ... yawn.
Anyway, one of my fellow office drudgies is the second person in our group to get an X. He had a 6+.
Asked him how he liked it and in general he was good with it. I asked him what one thing he would change. His answer; make it wider. Not the item I was expecting.

Note: I use a Razer as my phone.

I'm in the 44% category and for that reason I am a loyal customer. By keeping my 5s updated to the latest OS, Apple gives value to their ecosystem.

The cynical side of me asks, how do the survey originators know the respondents are actually and really iphone customers? The respondents could be shills.

1500 is not enough, even a straw poll on Linus' Youtube channel would have more accuracy and nuance.

For me it's lack of home button/Touch ID, the notch is ugly, the bezels are too big on the sides, the small form factor, the high price especially with the weak pound and the naff "features" that offer nothing more. It's also very ugly for an apple product.

The pairing of question and answer posits a causal relation - "I did not buy the iPhone X, because my old iPhone still works." I do not think it is a stretch to take this as the old iPhone still meeting the iPhone-needs of these people, and them not expecting the iPhone X to improve things sufficiently to get it.

Of course, one could come up with other scenarios to explain the connection between question and answer, such as some children whose parents refuse to buy them new iPhones while the old ones still work. I think such alternative scenarios are far less likely, but yes, opinions can differ.

The problem with questions of this kind is they invite us to read our own biases into the answers.

I tend to hang onto my devices until they have outlived their usefulness, or break. I am quite certain I am far from the only person who rarely feels compelled to buy new when the old is still serving the purpose for which I originally bought it. I'm not the only one to suggest that the answer to the question could just as readily be interpreted that way.

Sure you did.. That's the great thing about the internet as there is no way to disprove your statement but I highly doubt its true.. yeah, I work for Nasa as a rocket scientist too... LOL
Do you really think that "owning" an iPhone X is really that hard? Maybe you do, since you relate the believability to working with NASA. Maybe if the X is all that you can own/finance, you feel compelled to defend it like a rare cut diamond. For others, it's just a device.

Yup.. Another X basing thread from users who've never owned it and maybe played with one in a store for a few minutes where faceID can't even be tested.. Lets cover it all now and get it out of the way:

1. Dat notch tho
2. I can buy a Jitterbug for $49.99 so why would I pay $1K
3. faceID is terrible
4. Dat notch tho

/complaints from non owners covered

Most who actually own the X are satisfied and happy with it...

But at this point isn't the point to convince those of us who haven't purchased to purchase one!?

Who said owning an X should be that hard? You either see the value or you don't. Where I draw the line is when people throw internet tantrums over something they've never owned.

I don't own an iMac so why on earth would I go to the iMac forum and throw an online tantrum over it? It's not for me for several reason so I didn't buy one..

But at this point isn't the point to convince those of us who haven't purchased to purchase one!?

Why do you need convincing? Buy it or don't as only you can decide if it's for you or not..

The X is an amazing product. I came from Plus phones and the one thing I wish it had was a LITTLE more width. It's a tad skinny. The battery is also a little weak. Other than that I have gotten used to the rest and love and marvel at it to this day. It's the best of the best in most respects, hardware and software wise.

No, the single largest factor I think for everyone is price. The smartphone market is shrinking. Most of these phones barely have their power tapped as they have gotten so powerful. It costs as much as a laptop. And for that cost, you really don't get that much more over an 8 or even a 7 Plus. Heck even a 6S is still fast. For people where cost is an issue but still want to stay with Apple, that has to be the main driving factor. Too expensive, not that much better, no need.

Apple knew precisely what they were doing when they released the 8/8+ aside it. And that strategy will be more clear with this year's releases as they further expand the new design to more phones and devices at different price and capability points

Well, its a fact, the iPhone 8 and iPhone X were more expensive than the previous iPhone 7.

Something about people asking for smaller phones irks me. I know it's complete consumer preference and opinion, and it really shouldn't bother me but it does. Seriously, do you guys want a potato chip for a phone? How tiny are your hands?!
