Downside to swiftkey as everyone else said - it wants full access.

Does Swype do that aswell? I would purchase it if it doesn't.

In that screenshot is show a black keyboard and a white keyboard...i didn't know swiftkey can change color schemes! anyone know where to change this?

EDIT: nevermind, found it! :)

It will be even better when the bugs are worked out. So far, the inability to use it when quickly replying from the lock screen and the fact that the messages don't scroll up when the keyboard opens in the messaging app have really bothered me.

Agreed. I am noticing many bugs and limitations. Hopefully, they'll fix this in the next update. (e.g. Switching keyboards is not optimal either. Hard-press on the "globe" icon to populate the list of keyboards doesn't work while in SwiftKey, and it only works while in the default iOS keyboard.)

Worst part about this keyboard, is that it requires full access for word productions... which means the keyboard is no longer sandboxed.

This keyboard is also completely free, which begs the question how are they making money. They are probably data-minning the words we type. Like Apple said we are its product.

I would take some time and look into what Swiftkey does with their full access.

If you like the keyboard and want to be extra secure (never a bad thing), it is actually quite easy (using the globe button) to switch back to the Apple internal keyboard whenever you need to enter sensitive information.

I downloaded a couple of them, tried them out, and then promptly deleted them.

Well on Android you're right, but the iOS version of SwiftKey is so bad if it comes to customization. On Android you can change how long to press until the secondary chars are written on your screen. This option is totally missing in the actual version of SwiftKey.

At the moment SwiftKey only provides the basic idea of the app, but all the other features are missing. At least for now.

Yeah, I didn't realize it wasn't straight across the exact same product. I imagine it will get there in time, but looks like it isn't there yet.

Swift kinda sucks, maybe its just me.

Certainly not a fan of 3rd party keyboards. Installed Touchpal, Swift, and swype deleted all of them, I like my apple keyboard and can type faster than any predictive typing...

Found out after I installed on my iPad Air that the swipe typing is only for iPhone and iPod. Bummer, but I did install Swype on the iPad and it works with swipe typing.

HOWEVER, its quirky. If I'm using the Swype keyboard and I put focus on a password field on a webpage, the keyboard reverts back to the stock Apple keyboard with no button to switch back to Swype.

That's actually a good security feature, IMO. Rules out the possibility of a 3rd party logging your password keystrokes.

I'm surprised no one is talking about the lack of the Siri Dictation button. For me, that's an absolute deal breaker.

I noticed this right away, as well, as I prefer dictation while on the go.

To be fair, the iOS version currently is missing a ton of features that the Android version has. Android version is feature-rich but not free. I'm sure that SwiftKey is trying to get people hooked on it prior to coming out with a paid version that has more functionality.

"Who needs alternative keyboards? Lol Android customization is so useless"
-Any iOS zealot 6 months ago

I wanted a row of numbers along the top of the keyboard from the second I unpacked my iPad1 and I'm still waiting.

I'm GOOD at waiting!

Maybe Apple should take the hint that customers want customization?

"customers" don't know what they want because they are idiots. All this stuff looks cluttered and is buggy. How about Apple makes something that *works* and I don't have to even think about other keyboards. Same for the stupid pull down widgets. Looks like ****. Steve Jobs would have never let this happen.

Gonna try it out on the larger screen iPhone 6 and 6+. So far I actually kinda like it. I bought Swype, but I'm using SwiftKey right now because it has the cloud support for learning what I'm typing.

Otherwise, it's not bad. Just want something simple that allows me to use the flow typing input method. That's one of the only things I actually prefer on my Nexus 5.

Usually I'm an Apple purist and don't like a lot of third-party stuff, but this one looks almost the same as the standard keyboard with different colors, so naturally, it's "gorgeous". Except, is it possible to change the color of the letters?
I would imagine that'll come as a premium add-on, along with different patterns and colors for the entire keyboard. Stay tuned for version 2.0. It'll probably be in there, but expect to pay a buck or two to get it.

This is by design, not a bug. Apple won't let third party keyboards be the method by which you enter your passwords. It's a security thing.

it doesn't work with my gmail app - in the 'to' and 'cc/bcc' fields, it doesn't pull up email addresses...but as soon as you switch back to the main Apple keyboard, it works. argh, this might be a deal breaker for me...i guess I could use Mail but I really like the gmail app lol

Sadly I agree with this, the beauty of iOS was it's simplicity with all these third party keyboards its no longer that. Not to mention you have to install it as an app, then add it to your keyboard so if you have more than 1 keyboard thats more than 1 random app on your phone bla bla. I'm just venting lol, happy that I have the option to opt out.
