Maybe Apple should take the hint that customers want customization?

One of the reasons the App store exists. Why should Apple spend money on developing various customizations or apps that fill gaps in their software when the can let others do it and make money off of it?

What I've noticed with swift is that the right arrow acts as a space bar when I am entering Web addresses, breaking the address... Shouldn't this be acting like the GO button in the apple keyboard? I've also noticed that things are still a little buggy. Otherwise, I am enjoying this style of input.

Other apps are not used to log in to your bank accounts or other sensitive financial data. I would never activate that feature which is required for many of these to work. The reason apple restricted use

I dont think it said get access to you bank account it warned it logs things you have typed including bank accounts

you know how you have to type card number into online banking thats all I read from that

I was leery with installing a 3rd party keyboard, but since many swore by it, I paid $4 for it on an Android phone I had. I never really loved it like most do. And then they changed it to "free" and started data mining everything you do. Nothing is free. I deleted it right after. It was enough that Google watches everything I do on phone. I don't need every keystroke captured too.

I will never install a 3rd party keyboard again. Yes I wear a tinfoil hat around here :p

Worst part about this keyboard, is that it requires full access for word prediction... which means the keyboard is no longer sandboxed.

This keyboard is also completely free, which begs the question how are they making money. They are probably data-minning the words we type. Like Apple said we are its product.

I downloaded and saw the same thing. I am not happy about this. Time to remove this app.

Tried swiftkey and removed it after a few minutes. Loved the dark color scheme. I personally consider any software ***** if it has any annoying features. This keyboard has two. It wants to connect and get data from Facebook or Google, which is unnecessary for an extension like this to work well. Also, I downloaded with the intent to swipe my fingers across to different keys. It didn't work like that fresh out of the gates, so because of the crappy option to login to FB or Google, I consider the keyboard to be crap, and not worthy of being on iPhone. Deleted, happy with apples NEW keyboard

I'm a little surprised Apple even allows this kind of thing on the app store.

These keyboards that require full access to everything you type are -- to use a loaded yet accurate word here -- keyloggers.

Basically Apple has said "ok, you want to give a little-known third party access to 100% of your keystrokes? Have at it."

Is that really something users want to trade in exchange for an alternative keyboard? Apparently the answer is yes, but it seems to me that some people don't have their own best interests in mind.

EDIT: I'm referring to SWIPE. Is Swiftkey different? Okay, I will try it and see if it is any better...

Okay I just tested Swiftkey and I am very impressed. It is everything I thought Swipe would be but it failed miserably. Swiftkey is cool and I like!

"Who needs alternative keyboards? Lol Android customization is so useless"
-Any iOS zealot 6 months ago

"Who needs a touchscreen smartphone that lacks a physical keyboard?"

-every android phone manufacturer.

I never saw any issues with iOS' native keyboard. I can type *extremely* fast on it, way faster than this new fadangled thingamajig "SwiftKey" melarkey :p

I appreciate and understand that it is a matter of preference... but I still see zero advantage of using another keyboard; the same applies to my Android usage - I just use the stock AOSP one :)

Fearmongering should be a bannable offense.

To people complaining about customization:

it's optional.

To fandroids:

1. You're sounding very scared about this.

2. iPhone users have class. most will stick to the original Apple keyboard, You know, the one that WORKS.

I cannot update to iOS 8 (iP4 here)
awaiting on my iP6 tomorrow.

what does Swiftkey bring that the new predictable keyboard with iOS8 brings?
is it a swipe like keyboard included too?

I'm pretty sure that Apple has access to everything you type now, now that they are doing predictive typing.
Incorrect. They specifically mentioned in the keynote [edit: and on the website] that it is done locally, on the device.

How is that being "so paranoid"? I also don't feel comfortable setting up basically a keylogger on my iPhone to send EVERYTHING I type to a 3rd party company.
Totally. There are those paranoid freaks, myself included, and then there are those overly trusting and naive. Think they give away a free apps out of the goodness of their heart? A 3rd party keyboard is precisely a keylogger.

I was leery, but I paid $4 for Swiftkey on an Android phone I had. As soon as they changed it to free, I immediately deleted it.

you have every right too feel that way but you obviously know its not just keyboard apps that take that info its virtually every app
The big difference is you interact with the keyboard within every app.

Currently turned off on my devices. Apple has access to lots of things but at least I can point to them directly, than some third party company which in the fine print probably says your data is being sold, and your case won't hold anywhere in court.

amen to this.

found that it wanted full access, and that all my information and texts will be sent to them, **deletes app** lol

Exactly right. Something that is able to collect ALL OF YOUR DATA ENTRY and use it however the app maker deems fit - unless it is Apple, who I trust 110% (and let's face it, you'd not have much choice, even if you *didn't* trust them) seems like something that... well... not that I don't trust, so much, just another layer of doubt and abiguity that has no reason to be there, AND the potential risk of which is not at all offset by ANY substantial benefits in typing.

In a nutshell... no thanks, but thanks. :)

3rd party apps will always have your info because that is the agreement they make with the company. As for paying the dev they do get paid per download.

I can't believe there are people in this thread calling others "paranoid" about full access

For Japanese we had a popular keyboard app on android that was found to be sending all of your typed data to Chinese servers, yet this is somehow "paranoid" for thinking US companies will use your data to sell information.

How naive can you be?

Stay out of my junk...

This app is way too intrusive. Maybe Apple will add something one day and I'll use it since it'll have privacy.

I liked Now Contact and its predecessors going back 100 years... eventually Apple made Contacts and Calendar to a high standard and I never looked back.

These guys have a lot of nerve busting into my every keystroke from every email I've ever written.

I just deleted this P.O.S.

Stay out of my junk!

Swiftkey is nice but there are issues. Sometimes you can use swiftkey for quick reply and other times you can not. Some time iOS reverts back to the default keyboard or Emoji if you deleted the default one. It feels beta-ish.

You need to remove the usual Apple keyboard from your list of keyboards, otherwise after Emoji keyboard, it will go back to the Apple stock one.
